I work right next to a Hospital and lately I've been noticing quite a few people pushing there IV Poles or pushing along in their Wheelchairs attached to an Oxygen Bottle trying to get to the smoking area for a cigarette. Now I don't knock smokers cause I smoked for 25 years myself(I quit for 4 now)but if you can't breathe already and you hooked to machines do you really need a cigarette. Have you ever had to give up something you love due to health issues?

first of all congrats from me to you for giving up smoking for 4 years now. Thats great to hear. I gave up about 25 years ago. Didnt smoke more than 10 a day but still had to stop twice before I was successful. I was diagnosed a diabetic in 2006. I am not insulin dependent so I have to watch my carbs intake, mostly the intake of quick working carbs. So I had to give up on a lot of nice foods, and also some fruits and veg which have too many quick working carbs like corn, cooked carrots, watermelon, etc. And it is hard for me as a bread lover to stay away from these which are not made with full grain flour as well. Sometimes I am disappointed when I see others tucking in this yummy stuff and I cant but then I think about the consequences and tell myself quite strictly to behave.

I'm proud of you, I know it would be very hard for me to give up bread and other foods that I love. I think it was easier for me to quit smoking than it would be to give up foods that I love.

thanks dear Missybear but if you simply dont have a real choice, cause you know about the long term influence of too high blood sugar, like leg amputations, and blindnesss, you do what needs to be done. I miss my bread more than anything else on the list of forbidden goodies.

My doctor tells me to quit smoking all the time and I ALWAYS smell smoke on him. So I asked him if he smokes and he said yes!!! How can you lecture me not to smoke when you smoke yourself is what I was thinking! lol I know I have to quit I never what to be that person

Isn't that dangerous with oxygen? Anyway, no haven't had to give anything up. My mom gave up smoking cold turkey last time she was in the hospital tho.

hi, when i was in high school i tried to smoked until i went to college, but when i graduated to college i gradually lessen and reduce to smoke because i felt sometimes to breath so deep, and now i already stop to smoke because i found out that my family have a history in asthma.

So far it didn't happen to me yet, I'm doing things that I love. Anyway I have healthy lifestyle so don't have to worry to give up something due to health issue. Good to know that you quit smoking coz its not good for your health, it's just make you sick. Hope everything will work out best for you...
