Is it normal to be sleepy so much?

Okay people I have been doing more exercise in an effort to get myself in shape, but I have noticed that I have been a lot sleepier lately, sometimes sleeping more than 12 hours in a day. It's been seriously hot lately as well every day is over 90 degrees. I thought exercise was supposed to help you feel more energetic, so is it the heat that's doing it to me or is it something else. I'm really losing productivity in my day, because all I want to do is sleep. It's also messing up my sleep schedule which is bad, because I had my schedule worked out really good.

It's really hard to tell because sleepiness has a lot of causes. Have you changed anything else? It could be the heat, an allergy, a virus creeping up on you, it could be a lack of oxygen. Do you use air conditioning? If not, it could be the heat is keeping you from sleeping well at night. Maybe if you made yourself stay awake during the day you could get your sleep schedule back in order. I know how hard it is to stay awake when you're really sleepy, though!

I saw below where you said you've had dizziness and blurred vision. I don't want to frighten you, but these could be symptoms of something serious. Do you know what your blood pressure is? It might be a good idea to keep track of that if you're exercising more. Don't overdo the exercise. Even if you want to lose weight, winding up in the hospital is no way to do it. My sister was very heavy and she has COPD and is on oxygen and has knee problems, so she couldn't exercise. Walking across the floor was about all she could do on some days. She made up her mind to lose weight and started limiting how much she ate. She still eats anything she wants, but she eats one normal plate and quits and she doesn't eat between meals. She's lost nearly 75 pounds so far. I don't mean to discourage you when it comes to exercise, but before doing anything very more strenuous from what you're used to, you need to see a doctor, or, at the very least, start with very mild exercises until you've built your body up a little more.

Ive been going easy, but I have to keep fighting through it, because a loss of one day will set me right back to the beginning. This heat wont last forever I just have to be tougher. If anything the heat will help me lose weight faster, but Im not foolish enough to try and run a marathon or anything.

This is the kind of sleepy where you doze off without even realizing it. I do have AC, but its been so hot the unit is unable to keep the room below 80 degrees. The only change Ive made is the added exercise.

On your first few weeks of exercise it is pretty normal to be so sleepy all the time. Your body is trying to recover from the torture you are putting it through. Sleep is vital to your physical condition, it repairs damaged muscles and recharges your energy. But I have to say you're certainly not a weakling it takes muscles to carry around that weight. I guess you would need to move your exercise schedule closer to bedtime, so that sleepiness won't get in the way of your writing on the daytime. It took me about 6 months to get rid of my sleepiness as I was on and off with my exercise schedule because of work and yup I was so damn lazy. It took me 10 lazy years to get back in shape, but I didn't stop. When I felt I was slacking again. I pushed myself harder. I'm sure with your past experience in taekwondo you have that driving force that will get you results. Of course use that temper to good use. It helps you push yourself to train harder. Hulk Smash!

That's progress showing. Keep it up. Don't forget pushups. It's vital for developing your core strenght. Upper and lower body strenght. When these muscles develop. You keep burning fat.

My exercise has consisted of carrying laundry groceries and twins up to the third floor. Ive been doing crunches every day and calf raises. My knees dont hurt as much when I walk so Im already seeing some benefits.

Im up to 10 pushups and 50 crunches. Ive been doing my crunches in the tub, which really seems to isolate the stomach muscles while the hot water keeps my back muscles from overstraining.

Are you getting enough to drink? Sounds like you could have a hydration issue.

I think it was partially about hydration. I started during a heat wave which wasnt the best of ideas.

Exercise is supposed to make you feel more energetic, so something in one of your three pillars of health has got to be off. (The three pillars being exercise, diet, and sleep) 12 hours of sleep every day is probably more than you need and that could be adding to your sleepiness problem. I know it's had, but try consistently getting up every day at the same time and going to sleep everyday at the same time. However, since you started sleeping more after your increased exercise as you say, it's more likely that something in your diet is off. Try to eat more fruits and veggies, and after you work out have a healthy high-protein snack like a protein shake or beans/eggs. It also could be the heat contributing to your fatigue if diet isn't the culprit. Drink lots of water.

Yes, eat your apples and oranges! Get some colorful veggies and fruits in your diet. One of my old diet books used to say, "Follow the rainbow!" meaning eating plants that are naturally colorful. Don't forget high-protein stuff to help feed those muscles you're working on. Especially right after a work out. If eating right doesn't help, there might be something else wrong and you would need to see a doctor.

Its helped a little. Apples were suprisingly effective. I had no idea they could give you that much energy. It was like drinking a Red Bull.

I have been craving apples and oranges like crazy, so you might be right about the diet. I really dont eat these things very much so it could be that.

Maybe that will be the effect of your exercise. Your energy was already used up during your exercise making you feel tired and sleepy. Better lessen your workout so that you will still have the energy for other work of the day. Happy mylotting.

Ive been trying to eat about 6 times a day, but sometimes I get so busy I forget to eat. I've invested in some fruit for more energy so hopefully that will help.

I think that it was mainly due to the effect of exerise. You are straining too hard to shape yourself that your body does not support. Also it doesnt mean that exerciswe is of no use. Have a schedule. Woke up early in the morning and do exercise for some time, maintain a proper balanced diet, try to do some physical exercise whenever you find time but dont stress hard. thats it yep. The exercise isn't enough in my opinion. I was capable of so much more when I was younger, I have to be able to do more. I guess I just have to get used to it.

Age is definitely a factor when I was in my 20's I could run up and down a basketball court all day in heat like this.

Probabily your energy level goes down when you become old. My best suggestion is to have a walk on early monring for nearly an hour. I balance my body weight by maintaining proper diet and a walk in the early morning.

it truly has been pretty hot here in certain areas of North America so that could definitely add to your sleepiness. make sure you drink lots of water so you don't get dehydrated. dehydration can make you sleepy and feel sick too.

Ive been guzzling gatorade and water down like crazy. Today my fiance decided she wanted to go to the fair, and we wound up walking in the sun for 10 minutes for nothing because they were closed.

It is abnormal to be sleepy so much and slept more than 12 hours a day. May be you want to consider slowing down on your exercise in very hot day or at least cut down the number of hours you spend outside during summer. Let's wait and see whether your sleepiness can improve after taking this first step few days later, then only you can think the next move you are going to take. It is just not normal to sleep this much or feel this way by you no matter how you look at it.

My gosh! I'm not alone. It's been an issue to me since i started toning my self. I sleep late and wake up late. I'm often hungry and excited to wake up to eat. I don't think the weather has something to do with it. I guess we over work our muscles? I hope someone can answer our question.

It has to be due to the exercise for sure, because when I was chilling on my laptop I had loads of energy.

Well, personally i don't think being sleepy too much is healthy.I think you have to consult a doctor, you may have a blood chemistry so doctors can identify what causes your sleepiness. You should also regulate your activity, you might be exercising too much that you become very tired and your body need to recharge by getting more sleep or it has something to do with your diet. There a lots of hypothesis in these, better yet go to a doctor and have a check up.

I can't do doctors. All they want to do is stick you with needles and bill you a fortune. I should probably start adding some energy foods to my diet. What kinds of foods do that?

I don't think it's normal if you never was like that before. I can say by me that when I go to the gym, I tend to sleep less than when I do no exercise (like these last months, I'm always tired, I sleep and then I get more tired..obviously is because I'm not exercising as before). I think that maybe you should look for a doctor's help and see if there's nothing wrong with your sleep.

You probably aren't in as bad a shape as I am. I havent exercised in over a year, so my body was really putting up some resistance. I'm doing much better, though I still feel a little sleepy.

Well you changed your routine which could be it. Also, the heat can effect you as well. I find myself very tired and exhausted with the heat. If it continues like this for more than 2 weeks I would see the doctor. I am usually always tired, and exhausted but this is from low iron and b12.

You are right, the change in routine combined with the heat was really kicking my butt. Compound that with I really only eat meat bread and potatoes I wasn't getting a whole lot of nutrients. I added some fruit to my diet and am drinking green tea in place of soda now.

Hi friend, you are really lucky enough to have long sleep, lot of persons struggling a lot for their sleep. As you mentioned you have the ability to sleep more than 12 hours, it is really great. But too much of sleeping activity is also not good. Have 8 hours sleep, it is normal

Sometimes I sleep more because I am unhappy and want to sleep until the nagging feeling goes away. Are you depressed? They also say the more you sleep, the more tired you become if you are sleeping too much.

the wrather does have a huge effect of what we are feeling. Alongside our body there are many factors ou might need to conside. For me though... i have heard that some people who have certain diseases almost aleayd have feelings of wanting to sleep all the time. Of course we know the heat also causes ou ody to want to conserve the fluida we have left and would make us feel sleepy too. I guess it does depend on our weather and your actual health conditions if in case you noticed anyrhing else that is unusual.

Ive also been experiencing, dizziness and blurred vision. My eye has been twitching a lot as well. Maybe youre right about the fluids, because Ive been extra thirsty as well.
