You look so cute when you hide from the world...

I've had my kitty for about a year now, and ever since she was a kitten she's done this strange thing where she'll burrow herself under the welcome mat next to the back door. Today I was finishing lunch and I looked over and saw her peeking out from under the mat! She looked so cute that I just had to snap a picture.
My cat's a bit of a fraidy cat! Whenever there are strangers over she'll find a spot to hide, usually under the bed covers. But then, like today, I'll catch her hiding when there's nobody but me around. I wonder if she knows how cute she looks when she hides, and does it deliberately to make me go, "Aw...."

Dear little Nenya thats so cute you are hiding. If I came to visit your Mom I guess you would hide as well although I am a total cat person and would admire you right from the first moment. I know now where to look for you, directly under the welcome mat.

I'd try to hold her, but she'd clamber up my shoulder and launch herself into the air to go scampering away behind me. Then I'd probably find her hiding under the bed covers. She's such a fraidy-cat, which makes me kind of sad because I want to show her off and introduce her to all my friends. She's never warmed up to my Dad or my sister's boyfriend (perhaps she thinks men are scary?) but she's kinda started 'tolerating' one of my best friends. Other than that, kitty's scared. lol

The poor dear. I've often wondered what it would be like to have a social cat...

The white eared cat in my avatar is named Rygel. He learned to jump into our arms from the floor. The kitten is Oliver and he learned to do it by watching Rygel (he was grown at that point.)
Then I rescued a tabby kitten a couple of years ago. She saw them jumping and has started doing it too...

Oh dear! Now you've got a house full of jumping kitties. Have you ever video-tapped them doing it? That sounds like it would be cute. Wish my kitty would jump into my arms...

She's trying to find a private place. Makes her feel safe. I keep a large paper bag in a room for my cat to go 'hide'. That's why a lot of commercial cat beds are enclosed. The cat can see out but is protected on all other sides by the 'walls'.

That kinda makes sense. She follows me around the house and if I've shut a door between her and me she'll meow at it until I open it and let her in. Under the mat seems to be one of the only places she tries to go hide. I'll move the box into a room I spend more time in and see if it makes a difference.

I put a box in her room for this reason, but she doesn't seem to like it much. I'll try a paper bag next. Thanks for the tip!

Cats do know how to be cute, don't they? I do think that your idea that she's plotting a fridge heist may be on target. My cats know that all sorts of magical things reside in the fridge--such as cheese! My youngest, especially, is totally in love with cheese; her big brother is more for the yogurt.

That's cute! My kitty doesn't seem to like cheese, but she does love yogurt.

Hello allyoftherain
Your cat looks like she is up to something. It is a cute photograph, though.

She probably is. Possibly plotting a heist of the fridge! Gotta to get all that turkey the human keeps locked up!

I've no doubt that she's plotting.
Be careful that she not get trapped in the fridge, though! One of my cats once got trapped in our freezer (it was one of those side-by-side refridgerator/freezers) when he climbed in to investigate and no one in the family noticed his presence and closed him right in!!

Oh no! Poor kitty!
She has climbed into the fridge a few times, but I've always grabbed her right back out. I've shut her in the pantry by accident plenty of times though.

I thought it was pretty darn cute too, that's why I just had to share! I actually kinda hope she doesn't grow out of it as she gets older, because she's just so cute when she hides like that.

Hi,
How cute and shy our cat is. The photograph is very nice. I feel very happy by watching the funny behavior of different animals. It is very interesting to watch. You should take care as it is very tiny.
