I have been sick for the past few days...I have a fever (only at night) which is weird and I have a cough. I am just not feeling good or like myself. I am having dizzy spells and headaches too. I go from freezing to sweating constantly. It is the worst feeling ever!
If I do not get better by tomorrow I am going to the hospital. I hate going there but I worry and I don't like to take chances with a fever. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow.
Do you usually avoid hospitals at all costs?
I need some prayers or positive thoughts for me to get better please...

Hello LovingMyBabies
I am so sorry to hear of your discomfort and worries. This can be very scary.
I am one who tries to avoid hospital, but there comes a time when I realize that it is the best course of action.
I hope that you will feel better soon. Mrs. Turner and I are sending positive thoughts your way.
Peace Be With You

Hi LovingMyBabies
I had something similar years ago and it was a viral infection. Should take 5-7 days if you consult the doctors and they diagnose correctly.
Unfortunately, I cannot stay away from doctors now. They have me in their web and grip. you know, i have ulcerative colitis, reuhumatoid arthritis and this time they have added stones in Gall Bladder and kidney too. Have been on medications since 2000 and all this severed because of their faulty diagnosis until 2005 (or I should say - I was consulting the wrong people here).
I know hospitals arent a place to be and do sincerely pray that you do not have to get to one for this illness and you do feel better soon. Prayers for a good health and quick recovery for you dear friend.

For the most part there is nothing that can be done for a virus, unless it goes into a bacterial infection like pneumonia or an ear infection. Even then, sometimes ear infections clear up on their own. I take store brand either Claritin or Zyrtec, and Mucinex. I drink lots of water, hot tea and soup. Get all the extra sleep you can.

I have been drinking tons of water and eating lots of soup and I am so happy to say I am fever free! I am so grateful. I still have a cough and a bad sore throat but I can handle those things MUCH better than how I was feeling before. =)

Every time I have a virus of any kind the doctors do nothing for me so maybe I will not waste my time going there.
I'm sorry thesids. =( I hope your health gets better. I hope you get a miracle and are cured of it all! =)

Is it random or every night you have a fever? For about 6 months on and off my husband would get completely random fevers (he'd be standing talking to you one minute and all of a sudden have a 104 fever; happened 1-2 times a week, different places & times of the day) and he developed a rash. He ended up going to an infectious disease Dr, they ran 40 different blood test. Everything came back negative. The Dr said that there are a lot of virus' that haven't been studied that there are no test for. My husband was diagnosed with fever of unknown origin & was told that within 6 months symptoms should totally disappear. Within a week of that point his fever left & haven't returned (its a been about 2 years). He does still have markings on his legs from the rash though (which was caused my red blood cells bursting due to the fever spikes).
With the dizziness and headache, it sounds like you may have an ear infection (which would account for the vertigo). I would get checked out just in case.

Most fevers do rise and spike in the evenings. That is normal for a fever. Someone mentioned you could be shaky from low blood sugar, and that is true as well. I get dizzy without ear infections when my sinuses are blocked or full. One thing that helps and is inexpensive is saline nasal spray. If it is a virus, an antibiotic certainly will do no good, but if it has become a bacterial secondary infection it would help.Go ahead and sleep extra if you get a chance. I would visit the doctor rather than the hospital. Take a hot shower. Hot tea is good for you as well.

It has been the past few nights for some reason. Mine keep happening in the late afternoon until early hours in the morning, then it would break until about 3-5pm then the fever will start again!
Yeah, I think the hospital is going to say its just a virus too. That is what they always say to me.
If it is not gone tomorrow I will be going unfortunately just to make sure it is nothing serious.

I couldn't remember the numbers of days, but according to this site, 48 hours with a fever, you should see a doctor. http://coldflu.about.com/od/whentoseeadoctor/qt/seedoctorfever.htm
I think if you are feeling that bad and it has been much more than 2 days, you may want to go to the hospital.
I personally, unless I thought it was serious, would wait until Monday and see my doctor because that would be less expensive. But if you feel it can't wait, I'd say go. I did that once, wasn't feeling well starting on Friday and by Sunday, I knew I should not wait..Good thing too, my appendix was infected and I made it to the hospital before it ruptured..

Actually, I didn't admit this, because I do not like going to the doctor or hospital, but my son was about 2 at the time and my biggest concern was, I went in on Sunday, if I didn't and Monday came around with my husband at work and my daughter at school, I was not going to risk a problem, like passing out or worse with my son there. So in a way, he kind of saved my life, because I would have just lied around rather than go to the hospital.

Yeah today would be day 3 but so far I have been without a fever, we shall see if it will last...
I don't have a doctor, nor do I have money or insurance for the doctor. If any health concerns come up my only option is the hospital unfortunately. If I had a doctor I definitely would rather that.
That's good that you did not wait then! I'm glad they caught it in time.

I felt like that once and it was just a virus the ER found nothing else wrong with me. I was cold, I had the sweats, burning up, shaking... just a virus. All you can do is rest and the shaking is either part of the virus and or possibly having low blood sugar if you haven't eaten enough. I hope it passes quickly for you.

Thank you for telling me that, I feel so much better knowing what I have. It is the weirdest thing, I have never had anything like this before. I was freaking out a little because of the fever.
Thank you, I hope I feel better soon too! =)

If you continue to feel that way despite your best efforts and otc items I'd call the Nurse Monday morning to confirm it's a virus. They can't do anything for virus' other than to run it's course. Tried any good ol' fashioned home made chicken soup? for hydration and nurishment

Yes I will call a nurse if it continues. I don't want to take any chances. I have been eating chicken soup, I know that always helps and I have been drinking only water...

I hope you start feeling better soon. It is not good when you get down like that. I do not go to the hospital at all unless it is something I think could be really serious. Prayers sent your way.

Oh dear! Hope you get better soon. I was really ill last week and felt so alone. My older son is visiting his dad and I was all alone with my 5 year old with no one to help. I hate going to the hospital...I feel that I'm going to catch more infections from the hospital since the hospitals here are VERY crowded.
I'm much better now though I do get bouts of cough on and off.Hope you feel better soon.

I am feeling a little better. I don't have a fever anymore but I still have the cough and sore throat. =( I am so glad the fever went away though.
The hospital here is nasty and there is always a 12+ hour wait time. It is crazy! When my husband got cut on a saw at work, his hand was open he had to wait 6 hours to be seen! It was the most ridiculous thing I ever saw!!
Thank you.

I avoid hospitals and doctor's offices both.Given a choice, I will see a doctor. I started coming down with something that one of my clients at work had, or so it seemed. He never ran a fever and he got better after about three days. I have not gotten better, and I was up, and dressed for church. After having taken something to reduce fever I still had over 100. I have been sleeping like crazy, hours and hours at a time. I still will not go see a doctor unless it gets worse on Tuesday. I really would not go to the ER because I always have gotten sick when I have gone to visit people there. Too many germs.

I can visit my doctor even if I cannot pay, as long as I do pay. I would rather see someone who knows me, but it is going on three years since I have seen him either. I am doing better, but still had a fever this afternoon. I will go to bed early. I drank some vinegar and honey as that tends to wash everything out. I know it is a matter of time, either way. One tip I read this year or heard on television is to take your own reading material to the doctor or hospital. I never thought of that, but think of the germy hands that handled it before you.

Yeah I hate both. I don't have insurance or money for a doctor so the hospital is my only option unfortunately. But I don't have a fever today! =) I am so happy.
I really hope you feel better soon too, I know your not feeling well either. =(
There are a TON of germs in hospitals, yuck!

Apparently the weather has effects on us like that and I would believe it. The weather here is hot one day, cold the next, sunny one day, raining the next at the minute, and my headaches are getting worse and worse.. the pressure of the atmosphere apparently causes it.. have you been having strange weather?

I was going from outside in 100+ degree weather to the AC so that probably had something to do with it. Plus the weather was a little crazy. I am so glad I am feeling better though. I have not been that sick since I was a kid!

I have been drinking lots of water and eating tons of soup and today I have been fever free all day! I still have a terrible sounding cough and a sore throat but I can handle that much better than the fever!
The worst part is this morning I woke up and it was "that" time of the month so on top of being sick already now I have that too. Ugh. Just miserable with the cramps on top of the other things. Lol.
Thank you so much for the prayers again, I am so glad God answered and took my fever away!

Thank you. Your so sweet for the thoughts and prayers! =) I appreciate it so much. I am feeling a little better today because the fever is gone. I only have a cough and sore throat now. Hopefully they will go away soon too.
I have been drinking lots of water and eating soup, it worked for the fever! And I am so glad God answered all of the prayers because I felt horrible yesterday and the day before.

Well, I am sure you're feeling better now since this discussion is two week old now. But getting a fever at not only is not weird. Thats actually normal. We all feel worse at night time. And thats what makes it harder to sleep. I know when I get sick or get the flu, I run high temperatures. And thats not a good thing. You will get better, you have gotten better.

I'm sorry to hear it and think you have caught a bad cold. I would not go to hosiptal and prefer drinking mcuh hot water and some medicine if I can confirm I just catching a cold. But if I have fever for several nights, I have to go to hospital because it may case some bad result. Best wish to you to get better tomorrow morning.

Thank you. Yeah, I just get worried with the fever. It is probably a virus like someone else said. I have been drinking a lot of water! I am trying to beat whatever this is. I am feeling terrible. I have not been this sick since I was a kid.
Thank you, I hope I will feel better tomorrow too!
