Hi there,
We are all different to each other, like, character, talent and wisdom. What is meant by intelligent? It is an ability whether acquired or in-born. How about common sense? Common sense means he/she have ability to do something or anything. What for you the difference? For you which is important to a person being intelligent or having a common sense.
I think very seldom to a person of having both.. What do you think?

No I believe you find common sense more in intelligent people. To point out the difference between the two, I would say common sense is more by birth than acquired. Its is embedded in one right from birth. It does not mean that you cannot acquire common sense once you are deprived of it. Practice makes it all perfect. Intelligence is more related to knowledge. Common sense on the other hand is presence of mind and is used to make day to day tasks easy. Intelligence can be acquired. I like people more with common sense. It helps you to acquire intelligence in you. I feel it is a more basic quality on should possess but unfortunate for most of us it is not as common as its name.

Do you believe that common sense is like IQ that some person have high IQ and some are low IQ. So might be commense is from birth which in o9ur growing up it will become in the high level. Specially in a situation that you will need or in the situation nothing to get solution.

Common sense is a quality. It is often gifted and may sometimes get acquired. IQ and intelligence are something upon which if we work sincerely, we will be able to sharpen up them to perfection. Intelligence of yours' will not help you tackle your day to day problems. It is more related to knowledge. But common sense shows the presence of your mind.. I will not mind if I can develop any of these qualities, but if I am asked to choose one I will prefer seeing myself with better common sense.

How could it be?
If a person is intelligent how come he/she doesn't have any common sense?
Maybe an intelligent person is not perfect, but I don't think he/she doesn't have a common sense at all.

A person could be the most intelligent book smart person on the planet, but without common sense, that person is probably really dumb.

Hi visavis
I would go for - common sense. This is more needed than intelligence. With commonsense you can do things and project yourself to be intelligent. But with only intelligence, life becomes difficult at times and you can not do much.
Many people are intelligent but do not have common sense. Like my cousin bil - he is a gold medalist at the University, pursuing Doctrate in English Literature. So that can sound he has intelligence. But on the other hand - when his MIL is admitted at hospital and is down with severe jaundice, he comes in with a container full of spicy chicken soup for her health - This is lack of common sense and that makes things miserable. The reason I think he lacks common sense is - a few months ago his father had suffered from jaundice too and was on diet for over 3 months. So he should be aware that Jaundice is a Liver ailment and also, mostly the ill people are NOT ALLOWED spicy diets

I think agree with your example in your cousin not using his common sense or either his intelligence - why if he is intelligent he able to think the situation he faced about his father. I think he is just confused and can be rattled his mind for what good decission is.

since this is a matter of choice, i believe in having a common sense. In my opinion common sense should be there in the person to evaluate things. Without common sense one cannot survive.Intelligence comes after common sense as person should have basic sense what is wrong, what to do in which situation.
There are two general meanings to the term common sense in philosophy. One is a sense that is common to the others, and the other meaning is a sense of things that is common to humanity.

I believe hey are both important. I wouldn't want to not have both at the same time. I think intelligence is the intellectual capacity of a person so it means everybody has it while common sense is practical knowledge of simple things so I also believe that it is also present to all.

I find this question quite tough. They say that common sense is not so common nowadays. I do no what are they basis for that but I can really see that it is true. Like we would sometimes hear on the news that a child was accidentally hit a car but no one has helped her. But if they still have common sense, automatically they would know that they should need to help that child. Being intelligent can be dangerous. This can also prevent someone to use his commonsense. Other people's mind would choose not use their common sense for their own benefits. Maybe that explains why we think that no people could have both intelligence and common sense. But the truth is we have them both. We just chose whether we should use both or not.

hi,
for me the most important to have is the intelligent because in my opinion having an intelligence makes your mind to have common sense too, because there are some people i know had a common sense but no intelligent makes them not so mindful person and its very pick only to a person to have this both of thinking.

Well I think that you have to have both. However you will be always good in one of them. Having intelligence is to be smart and be able to take hard decisions but without at least be a little bit common sense no one will like to be in your company because you will be to serious. And as I think if you are with common sense you will have a lot of friends, relations and will have help from them. However if you don't have at least a little bit intelligence you can't be funny guy.

Being intelligent is not the same of having a common sense. I have known someone who is intelligent but do not have common sense at all and I pity him.
I believe both is important to a person especially so if he or she happens to be a leader or a boss for he or she do a lot of decisions and making a decisions doesn't only depends to knowledge acquired but of course it has also something to do with the ability of understanding it and doing it.

You need to have both as both are equally important. Depending on situation you are in. Not all people are equally the same, so is intelligence and common senses. There are cases where you intelligence is vital and there are cases when common sense beats anything. It really depends on you. How you go about in life. Both of these traits are important.

Common sense is to be achieved from society, from social custom, belief, traddition. Its kinda general knowledge about practical life.
Without it we cant stretch a single step in everyday life.
Intelligence is perhapes the realisation of perfect performance.
So we need both so bad.

visavis hi To me they are both important and how can you be intelligent if you have no common sense so I sort of feel
that they are interchangeable myself.ou need them both as being
dumb rarely goes with common sense so common sense and intelligence go hand in hand.
