Why don't you get an avatar?

Australia

I find that there are a lot of people on here that have been here a while but don't have an avatar. So as I browse through discussions I just see a whole bunch of the generic MyLot avatars. I like looking at what people have and it can be a hint of the kind of personality you have. I like using this baby cheetah icon because they are my favourite animals and the babies are the cutest So what is your avatar about if you have one? If you don't have one maybe you should think about uploading one, unless there is a reason why you don't like them

I think you would have a fun personality, you would be a child at heart and looking at your avatar I feel that you are a nice, kind person. And yes I know the internet can be decieving but I don't think you would have chosen that avatar unless you liked it

You are into cartoons, or maybe you love the Japanese culture. You are cheery, happy go lucky kinda person. You like cute things. This is what happens when we have an avatar.

Mine is actually a picture of me.. I think your avatar should either show who you are or show something about your personality. I think because human beings are such visual creatures, it makes us able to relate to people more either by the way they look, or something that reflects them. For example when I think of some of my mylot friends I can visualise their picture, or their avatar :)

You both are right. I remember when there was a glitch here over the Easter long week end few months or so ago; we could still logged in myLot but all the pictures were missing then. It was hard for me to remember or recognize who people were here without the avatars even though I could still see their user names...

Yes exactly, that's how I meant it to sound when I look at someones avatar I know who they are and they are more memorable to me. People who see my baby cheetah face will know who I am and I rememeber yours and others as well

May be those without any avatar have their own personal reason, one i can think of is few newbies may have no idea how to upload their avatar, while for old members, they just don't feel it is necessary at all. For me, it represent my young at heart and easy personality. BabyCheetah is a cool avatar and also a really cute animal in real life.

Yeah I'm sure some have their own reasons but I find it strange and that darm MyLot avatar is starting to annoy me as I see it everywhere! Yours is quite a happy avatar so it does reflect that you are a pretty happy person. They are coold animals too, love those baby cheetahs

I have yet to post an avatar also. There are several reasons why I haven't. I thought of putting pictures of my children, but decided against that. I use Mylot to ask questions or express myself, and to vent. I have not referred any of my friends to this site because I want unbiased opinions and or advice. If I post my kids pix up here my friends will know it is me and I am not certain that there isn't any of my friends using this site. Secondly,I agree that what you use as an avatar can give you an idea of who the person may be. I am a multitude of things and have yet to find something that can characterize me. Lastly, I have never really considered the importance of having one. Since you have brought up some valid points on why people should have one perhaps I will consider placing one up. I also like cute things perhaps I will do something simple.

Very true I believe I shall post a picture at some point. It will be something to ponder n what it should be. It really does help with a photo. I believe your discussion may have more peple psting up avatars lol.

It would be funny if there was an increase in people putting up avatars for themselves. I guess we shall see if there is any change

Hi thanks for responding with your reasons. I personally woulnd't pos a photo of my self of kids if I had any either. I always have something like the baby cheetah face. Really an avatar can be any one thing that you like, it can be your favourite animal or something else cute or funny that you find. It just makes you stand out a bit more from everyone else

Hi! when I was new to mylot, I did not have an avatar too :) Even though I really wanted to add one, I did not know how. I tried changing my avatar through editing my profile and stuff like that but I can't find the change profile picture part. So for me, I really wanted to upload one but I just did not know how. Thanks to some old mylotters, they showed me how to add and change my picture. SO currently, I do have an avatar :)

For some newies it can be confusing where to go and that would be why they don't have one but I see some with hundreds of posts that still don't have one and it got me curious. I look at the new discussins and that same avatar just pops up but it's all different users making the discussions. Not a bad thing but it just seperates us having a unique avatar

I have the same observation! When someone posts a comment on a discussion I started, I usually look at the avatar and many I saw were just green. hehe It makes me feel uninterested. So, let's keep encouraging especially the newbies to post avatars that best describes them. Mine's not an avatar, unless I call my own face one. LOL

Yeah that's exactly it. I remember users by their avatar so not having one means they are not as memorable to me. Well it's still at least not the MyLot picture, it annoys me sometimes when I look at it too much

I hardly pay attention to the username, I like to recognize my friends by their avatars. So if you have a default avatar, it can't leave anybody an impression. But sometimes I wonder those people don't know how to set their own avatars. As an old user here for a long time. One day when I wanted to change my avatar, I also felt a little lost what to do. I love China

If they have an avatar I always look at that and I know who it is. It gets confuding when people decide to change it after a few years though and you have to get used to it And some I know are new and don't know where to go. I have helped 2 so far, hoping more people decide to get an avatar Sure I love China too, I've never been though

Exactly. Whenever I join a site it's one of the first things I do. I can't stand not having one and being the same as everyone else. I feel like I stand out more and after a while people remember or recognise you through your avatar. But if people have a reason for not having one that is OK with me too. Everyone is different after all

As you can see, I'm not using any avatar. If you are eager to know why, then I suppose I shall satisfy your curiosity. The reasons are: 1. I'm too lazy going through the trouble of picking up an avatar. You mentioned it will give a glimpse of that person's personality. Problem is there is not an avatar which will describe my personality satisfactorily. 2. I'm not putting up my picture up there.

Thank you for clarifying your reasons, I was very curious. That's fair enough of course but first thing that comes to my mind is a favourite animal but that's because I love animals. I woulnd't put my own pic up here either. It depends on the site I'm on though. But if you ever found a picture you loved you could always use it as an avatar

I respect your opinion, you do not have to put one up if you don't wish although I would now be curious to see how many people will start uploading one after this discussion if they see it

Thats a pretty cool picture, and makes sense. Cheetah's are fast too, and Chester the Cheetah likes to eat cheatos or however you spell um lol I got a koala because they look cute and cuddly but will rip your face off. Lots of people don't have a picture up and I am not entirely sure why either. I hope that everyone will eventually post some kind of picture because it makes things more intresting and colorful.

Yeah I like cheetos too haha! :D Ahh the notorious drop bear, you have to be careful of them because they can rip peoples faces off. They like to hid in the trees and then just drop out of the sky and attack. People just don't know how dangerous they really are! Thanks for sharing

hi babycheetah but not all koalas. I had one in a pet shop that was on a tree there and changed its affections to my shoulder and licked my ear. the owner of the pet shop's wife owned the koala and I looked a lot like her but the Arizona law would not let me buy that Koala even though the petshop people wanted t o sell him to me. He seemed to like me. I think he thought I was a sister to the owner or something he did not hurt me just nuzzled me.. the police came by and told them they had to put the koala in a zoo as they do not allow them as house pets, they were considered wild animals.bt it did not act mean or dangerous at all.

Truth be told I'm really glad they are not allowed as pets as they are wild animals. That's a sweet experience though. I like to hold them because they really cuddle onto you and you just don't want to let them go But you were lucky it wasn't the usual notorious drop bear, they're nasty

If you hand reared a baby cheetah it wouldn't eat you you would just have a giant house cat. Although you can not predict a wild animal so ther ewouldn't be a chance of injury if you're not careful. But we should not keep wild animals as house pets anyway
