I don't think anyone can enjoy life if they do not have money. Everything now needs money--sending your children to school, shopping, traveling, even to get a job you need money to be given to someone in order that you will be accepted. Money is everything. Without it, we are gloomy. No beautiful women will marry flat broke men no matter how handsome they may be. With money on your hand, you look bright, full of smile, right?
What is your take on this my dear mylotters?

Hmm, I disagree... There are very poor people that are very happy, because they might have a great family, someone they love, etc. It is also known that sometimes harsh situations bound people.
On the other hand, the are cases when rich people are in fact very unhappy, so money doesn't necessarily bring happiness.

The poor people you mentioned are happy because there are people who support them financially. How would they feel if no one supported them? Would they still be happy? They would not be, I don't think because they need money to get foods. Thank for responding my friend. Happy mylotting.

Your basic needs must be looked after. No one can enjoy starvation or ill health. After the basics are covered enjoying life without money in my mind all has to do with opportunity. Money does not make you happy but it opens doors. Enjoying life means making the best of things.
Example: I need a vacation and do not have the money to take one. My idea of a vacation is watching the washing machine go into spin cycle.
If money someday comes perhaps then but I know in advance just as money is limited I will be limited as to what kind ...... of vacation, picnic, holiday, party, journey, event etc ....... the enjoyment will be.

You are right that money does not make us happy. But without it we will be even worse. With money things just get much easier for us to do things we want.

Friends once in a while can help you but we can't rely on them all the time. If we have money of our own, we will feel relieved and nothing burderns our mind.

Yes. We have to accept and admit that we are nothing if we don't have money. How can a particular person be happy if his stomach is craving for food...?

Just look at those beggars. They need money to keep living. Money is tool to get things we need. People are busy everyday looking for it. Unemployed people get restless everyday trying their heads off looking for jobs.

Hey there bro,
Well i think that money makes the whole world go round and i think that if a person does not have any means of accumulating any kind of cash then he is doomed to die or be miserable, i cant be that kind of a person i need to have money or else i will die of starvation or from the exposure to elements.

I think being penniless is really a miserable life as it totally denies you most of what life offers. Like everything in this world has to be bought. But, money is not all to be happy or to enjoy life. If you have some money, at least enough for your needs, then that should be enough and you need not live as if you're devoid of enjoyment. Not because you can't travel to places means you can't be happy. That's another case. It's just a matter of contentment. The only people who can't really be happy are those who can't have enough. But, still having nothing at all is a devastation! My two cents.

Some people feel enough with what they get (enough money to live on and not too greedy to get it). Some others are never feel enough although they are already rich but still search for money.

I know money does not guarantee that one will be happy with it. However, money is needed to help them get what they want. They need money to pay for things they need. they need a lot of money to pay electricity bills and things like that. With all those things already met, the persons will not necessarily be happy. But money help them survive.

I think that there is difference between a situation where you are so poor that you can't afford food or a place to live and a situation where you can afford the basic things and nothing else. If you can't afford food and a place to live it is really hard to enjoy your life because you are constantly thinking about your financial problems and you don't know where you are going to get the next meal.
If have enough money for your basic needs I think it is possible to enjoy your life if you are poor and can't afford any kinds of entertainment. When I was student I was very poor. I bought the cheapest food I could find, I never went shopping, I never travelled etc, because I had no money left when I had paid my rent, my bills and my food. It might sound like a boring life, but it was actually a very happy period in my life. My friends and I had a lot of fun together. We only stayed at home and listened to music and drank coffee, but we had a lot of fun anyway.

From what you've explained i can draw a conclusion that penniless people cannot enjoy their lives as they have no money to meet the very basic needs like clothes, housing, etc.

I guess it depends on the personality. There are people who just need mentsal health, like different religious people, to be happy. But for most people, money is needed to be happy. I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't be 100% happy if I had to live under a bridge even if I lived there with my love. Because I need a culturally rich life to be happy. I need theatre, cinema, exhibitions, books etc. to feel content.

You may be right but I am talking about the importance of having money in modern life. As you know that money is vital tool for us to help us do things we want. It seems to me that without money, life in the city can be very frustating. I have a family to look after and I have found that not having money has set me depressed and sad. Well, doroffee, I thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate it.

If you are talking about superficial enjoyment like eating good food, buying branded stuff just to satisfy your personal desire, then the answer is no. However true enjoyment does not necessary need all these as enjoyment in life depends on individuals and what is considered enjoyable by me may not be enjoyable to you. And as such, a penniless person can enjoy his life too.

Can I say that to many people money makes them happy, while to some others, it doesn't necessarily make them happy. To me, personally, money is vital. I need it to survive. Just take a look at the city life. You will see people busy for their lives. Monks living in the temple do not need money but the foods they eat is obtained with money. Happy mylotting zhihao12, I appreciate your response.

Not really, a person can be happy without money. Sometimes to find true happiness you need to get rid of it. I agree many of the things today requires money like food travel, clothes etc but those are the things you need and the things you want, not essentially your source of happiness. There are some people who are very rich but very sad even if they can buy everything.
Happiness is based on your contentment and love. Material things cannot give you happiness.

How do they get food? How do they travel in the city? I think money is needed. At least they can use it to help them get what they want. Remember we live in modern cities. All can only be bought. Thank for sharing your thought my friend.

first, i do not think there is a penniless person. I am sure that even beggars have coins from begging. So i think what you are referring to are the poor. Under my university, i went into a program wherein we would immerse ourselves in the poor environment. We got assigned to the place of informal settlers or those who were live in shantis. We slept in their small houses for three days and felt what they felt. Even though they are poor. They were still happy. They were happy for the fact that they have each other. They knew almost everyone in the community and their door was always open so friends and relatives could just go in and have a chat. They are very happy. I believe they are happier than richer families. Happiness does not come from money. It comes from contentment.

Penniless and poor, I think. I noticed there were people who did not have any money at all.they just stayed home, hoping their families would give them foods.

We need money to provide for our needs.
But I think we can't equate happiness or enjoyment of our lives with money.
I have seen a lot of people who are happy despite how penniless they are but it doesn't mean that they are starving. When you go to the countryside or even to small towns, there are people who are happy with their lives. Why? Because they are contented with what they have.
We don't have to travel to enjoy life. We don't have to eat delicious food to enjoy life. It is just a matter of appreciating the beauty of life and enjoying the simplest things in life.

You said without money people can still be happy. How do they get food, clothes, etc.? Their children need to go to school. So,they still need money. To me, money is still important. I work because I need money.

I personally don't think a penniless person can enjoy life. Money is power and if you don't have money, you don't have anything. Sure, you can enjoy the simple things in life like nature and love and that sort of thing, but when it comes to surviving, there's nothing to enjoy if you have nothing. Look at some of the celebrities that have committed crimes and things like that. We all know they are guilty, but it was the money that set them free hence my saying that money is power. People admire you and want to be your friend and sure it may be for the wrong reasons, but you've got attention and recognition because of it. I am a single mom with a 2-year-old currently looking for a job as we speak. I can't do the things I want to do to enjoy life because....I have no money lol.

Yes money is very very important,I think I do not need to emphasize this.
But I still think, people can not be the slave of money.
We are the host of ourselves,we can not always follow money.

Are you trying to say that we do not need to hunt for money. Many people are too greedy to get it, sacrifying other people for the sake of money, right? Thank for responding skyandgassplot.
