Which Vitamins do you need most when you have Cough and Colds?

July 16, 2012 5:16am CST
I have learned from my kids' pediatrician that when a person has Cough and Colds he/she needs to take 2 tabs/capsules of Vitamin C a day. Usually Vitamin C is taken once a day when a person is not sick.

Vitamin C is the vitamins recommended by doctors for a person with cough and colds. A bigger dose is recommended in order to immediately recover. Personally, aside from taking the prescribed medicine, I was advised by my grandmother to take honey and calamansi. calamansi is known to be a source of vitamin c too. If you worry of vitamin c overdose, do not. in case there is, this usually will be dispose by the body through our urine.

Tea with a squeeze of lemon or calamansi is very helpful as well.

I agree with lilmom2, take tea(preferably hot)with squeeze of lemon or calamansi because I tried it myself. I even put finely chopped garlic. It has awful taste but very effective. I used honey instead of sugar.

for me i think the best vitamins we need to have when we have cough and cold is the vitamin C,because the vitamin C will make our immune system more stronger and more protected from sickness and illness that we can get.eating of sour citrus fruits is the best one.

I normally take 2 tablet of vitamin C in a day though its not harmful even if taken more than the prescribed than other vitamins due to vitamin c is water soluble while others are fat soluble which is harmful in our liver. If i feel sick or if i feel like my nose is itchy and watery during the first day i already take 2 tablets in the morning and another 2 in the evening then the next day i didn't feel any bad again, im not scared to take a lot of vitamins C coz i know its not that harmful as i just took a lot of water if i take a lot of it as urinate constantly. Though we can also get vitamin C from citrus fruits but doctor said its not advisable to eat a lot of citrus fruit due to acidic content that might damage our mouth tissue and will only cause mouth sore. So still too much fruits is not advisable.

Take natural vitamin C. Fruits and vegetables are a good source of vitamin C. You also get the added bonus of fibre and other good nutrients

Hello there! My dear mylotter friend Respected lilmom2, This comment is with the reference to the discussion entitled “ Which Vitamins do you need most when you have Cough and Colds?.”. I would like to say that cough and cold are infectious diseases caused by viral infection. These are not symptoms of deficiency of any vitamin. For actual treatment the cure and prevention should be make for infections. The doctor is the best place to get advise. A combination of vitamin C and Vitamin E may be administered for supportive measures because those are powerful antioxidants and can improve immunity of the body. Thanking you and happy mylotting smtrsv October 14, 2012, the Sunday

Vitamin C, I think, is the most effective vitamin in the prevention and treatment of cough and colds. I haven't known, so far, of any vitamin that has more potency than Vitamin C. Not only is it good for cough and colds but also as anti-oxidant that helps us in fighting the free radicals that can cause serious illnesses like Cancer. And we can easily get this by eating lots of citrus fruits...
