Releashing Romney's tax records.

I keep hearing that Romney should release his tax records. I saw on one discussion that all the presidents of the last 50 years have released ten years of their tax records. So I decided To check that out. I found that George W. Bush released eight yea rs worth 2000 to 2007. Bill Clinton did eight years 1992 to 1999. George Bush three years 1989 10 1991. Ronald Reagan 1981 to 1987. Jimmy Carter 1977 to 1979. Gerald Ford only put out a summery for the years 1966 to 1975. Richard Nixon 1969 to 1972. Franklin Roosevelt didn't release any tax returns while in office. his library released his tax returns for 25 years. President Barack H. Obama has released ten years of tax returns. But so what. Tax returns don't really prove any thing as far as I'm concerned, Now with this information do you still think Romney should release his for the last ten years? You can see the tax forms here. http://www.taxhistory.org/www/website.nsf/Web/PresidentialTaxReturns

If there is nothing damaging on them, then why not release them? Why is he refusing to do that?

It's not mandatory so why should he? What are they going to show? how much money he has made along with how much he gives to his church and charities. In the past Presidents release tax returns only for years they serve in office and only while they still hold that office.

Suescott, I don't see how you can say Romney donated paltry amounts to charity. He gave away the inheritance from his father and made his own money. He gives 10% or more to his church and millions to charity. Contrast that with other politicians and he comes out way ahead. He headed the Olympics for the grand salary of $1. Obscene amounts of money? Why not? Everyone is entitled to everything they can EARN. If that's a billion dollars, good for them! I think you've been drinking some class warfare envy flavored koolaid.

We already know that he has made obscene amounts of money, that is not the question. We know that he gives relatively paltry amounts of money to charities (mostly to Mormon Charities). Most of us know he's outsourced American jobs and profited from that decision. It doesn't matter if he was heading up the Olympics or not. He is inextricably enmeshed with that company and the decisions its made. Maybe its because a tax return is something he cannot craftily deny or change his mind about or turn his back on. Its in black and white and on the record at the IRS. So maybe you are right, why should he release documents that are irrefutable? A bit dangerous for him, I would imagine.

I really don't think it is important. The same as I don't think it's important to release college test scores, etc. If a candidate hasn't been in arrears with his or her taxes or been levied fines or had liens on their property for unpaid taxes, I really don't care. I think the clamor for Romney's taxes is just a ploy to advance the lines of class warfare.

I believe it is envy by Obama as well as a distraction sine Obama is the only President to release twelve more returns than any other president.I believe he did that to make him self look like He is closer to the common people. They have only released their returns for the years they were in office.

I disagree, Deebommb, he did that because he has nothing to hide.

If it isn't important than why not release them? I think the RNC screwed up, and they know it. If you don't think they have anything to hide than why did Ann Romney say "given all you people need to know.” What would you say to your kid if they gave you that answer?

You have to examine the reason. I gather the previous presidents released them after they were elected. If they want Romney's tax records it is because they want to find that he did something illegal and that he is against the poor entering themselves or they want him to give more entitlements and are looking for an excuse.

I honestly don't care. I know it's important to a lot of people. But I know how I'm going to vote already. I base it on things like who is for abortion and who is not.

The only reason "they" want him to release is so that they can pick them apart and find something derogotory and if they don't find anything wrong....they'll pick at what he did or didn't do that was legal. I'd say it is better to look at their work experience as more qualification to be president, not how they did or didn't spend their money prior. Obama has absolutely no record to "Run on"...but Romney does. And even if you don't look at it that way... bottom line is....are yo better off now than you were 3 years ago? Period, end of story. if you are..vote for Obama. If you are not...vote for Romney. Obama has done absolutely nothing for this country...oh wait..he has increase the revenue of multiple golf courses around!

What you are not noting is that these men, except for Roosevelt did so voluntarily. I think Ann Romney told the American people exactly how the Romney's feel about them: "given all you people need to know.” We haven't had presidential candidate worth this much money since George Washington, we believe. There is also a question as to how honest he is being with the American people. No one knows why he won't release the documents, it doesn't make any sense.

Are you sure? Andrew Jackson had some wealth behind him. Let's not forget John F. Kennedy, his net worth was quite significant. Truman probably had some money lying around somewhere. The Roosevelts weren't poor either. It makes perfect sense if you don't want to give extra ammo to your opponent. Especially ammo that the has to be "explained" by the opposing party.

Sierras, the assumption is that Romney is worth $250 MILLION, in today's dollars, Washington was right around the same amount. I will give you the same answer that republicans gave me about the Patriot Act: If you aren't guilty of something, than why are you worried?

Was it – “And we’ve given all people need to know and understand about our financial situation and about how — you know, how we live our life.” Or was it – “And we’ve given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and about how — you know, how we live our life.” Our ruling after reviewing the original audio is that she did not include the “you.” LIBERAL enough for you. Quit with repeating something that is a LIE.
