Hi guys, recently, I heard a news that a certain part of my country is banning plastics to promote a greener environment. As you all know, plastics are really detrimental to the environment. The usual plastic does not degrade like other wastes. I am really glad that they are finally banning the use of plastics! Even large malls are already trying to do this change! We are certainly making a difference one step at a time. What do you guys think about this?

Hi friend, good to hear about this, as we know plastic is not good for our environment, we must try our maximum to avoid it, Now a days lot of plastic alternates are available and we can use them as a substitute for plastics

Yes there some. But I could say that the use of pastic can not be minimized over a limit. Because we all are that much attracted with plastic and it is impossible to reattach it from our life.
So we have to develop new methods to recycle them perfectly.

It's a high time to do this. Plastic are so robust, it creates disaster for those countries used to experience floods. One of the culprit, the plastics.

I am a little surprised to hear that. Although this is a good method to keep the environment better, however, we do use quite a lot of plastic products everyday. Here the plastic bags are banned in the supermarket. I already get used to bring my own bag to go shopping. As to other plastic products such as shampoo, soda water etc. I think it is really too hard to ban them.
I love China

I think it is a great idea ,already the envelope with plastic windows are bio degradable now.We can recycle most plastics in England,They are coming up with new ideas all the time.We have an incinerator where all the rubbish is burnt. That does not include all the other types of waste. We have a green lidded bin for food waste, cardboard and garden waste. Then we have a green box where we put paper, tin cans and foil. All these containers are removed by the council to go for recycling at different places,Our glass we take to our local supermarket where they have all the recycling bins including glass.

Yes this is true, the use of plastic and styrofoam was already prohibited in some part of the country. The first time I heard about it is from my previous boss who is from Los BaƱos, Laguna. The other places I know are Taguig and Pasig. I didn't know about it and bought some groceries. It is really hard because all those canned goods are all placed inside a bag made of paper. I had to handle them with my two hands. I also noticed that fast food chains in the area no longer use styrofoam but plastic cups are still visible. I think it is too late that they have only thought about it just by now. They should have implemented it many years back.

I could say that the government should ban the plastic which can not be recycled. The un recycled are really dangerous to the human as well as the others. Here in our land plastic less than 30 micro are banded, because it can not be recycled.
So I prefer to uses all plastic which can be recycled.

Hello savagecabbage. Banning plastics. It sounds great doesn't it. Now are you talking about all items made out of plastic or just plastic bags. Do you realize how much of our world is made out of plastic? Look around your home. The computer you are using right now has a case made of plastic. Did you know that probably the
flip flop shoes or even the shoes you are wearing is made of plastic. So are some clothes. So is your country banning all plastics or just plastic bags?

Banning plastic would just be an inconvenience. What they should have done is to use degradable plastics because there is really no alternate material like plastic. Paper/paper bags breaks easily and the environmental impact of using paper bags is much greater compared to plastics. They are even more expensive than plastic bags which means that malls would not given them away unless they have to.

I think that is a great idea, and all countries should follow the lead to some extent. I remember a time when soda came in glass bottles that you had to pay a deposit on of $05 or .10, up to $.50 for quart bottles. You got that back when you returned the bottle, and as kids we used to pick up the discarded bottles on the roadsides to return them to get the money. It was a good pastime for kids to get money, and we didn't realize it at the time, but we were helping the environment as well.
Society today relies too much on throw away convenience. Just about everything we have is designed for a certain lifespan, then destroy it. It's not just the plastic bottles it's other larger things too. I have a printer that cost about $79 new that I got a few years ago, now the printhead should be replaced. That part costs $49. I can get a new printer with better specifications than my current one for around that price, so why would I buy a print head? It's basically designed to be sent to a landfill where it will be an impact on our environment.
Things should go back to the times when they were usable and repairable, and this would help the environment.

I'm glad that they doing it now. It's never too late. If my memory serves me right, this was a program even long before, for past presidents. I believe we have those movements, all goals, but there was no lasting implementation. I think, the government needs also our participation in this civic action - discipline and love for the environment is all we need. Easy said than done but I'm positive that we can make it happen if we act together. It's never too late.

I am in total support of you. Use of plastics have certainly troubled the environment. And now the need of the hour is to strictly ban plastics. We cannot be negligent anymore. It is becoming the prime reason for major diseases. I am glad that you opened up this issue for making everyone aware.

It is a good start, even here in the market we have to take our bags to do marketing because plastic is not allowed. Though sometimes it becomes problem to carry things but one day we will all get used to it. I am proud that this is happening because plastic is very bad for the environment since it is not biodegradable.

In our town, our Mayor has decreed to ban plastic since last year; it was prompted by the devastating effects of the flood due to clogged drainage and sewers because of...plastics. At first it was difficult to adjust; everyone missed the plastic bags that's so easy to wrap groceries or stuff with. But after a year, everyone's used to paper bags, cartons and biodegradable-re usable shopping bags. It did pose a bit of a hassle during rainy days as paper gets wet and they disintegrate making them such poor wraps for the stuff that you bought. But we'd rather take the inconvenience of ripped paper bags than flooded streets anytime ;)
