I have heard it stated that out bodies need vitamins..
well I know people who has never taken a vitamin in
tbeir life and they are not in any worst condition
health wise that those who will not go a day without
taking a vitamin,,,
My doctor told me after the cancer to take vitamins
and I did for about 3 years after the operation but,
it got to the point where times would pass and I would
forget to take them now its been almost a
year since I took a vitamin..But when the encologist
took me off the 5 yr meds he did't even mention vitamins.
Since that time my regular MD have never mentioned
Vitamins, ever,,he did say to take a calcium supplement
for my bones because of my age....
How about you..whats you choice of vitamin or do you
even take them on a regular?????

I think you are confusing there a bit, as previously stated you need extra vitamins (if at all) only if you have some kind of health issue. With normal and balanced food you will get enough vitamins for your body needs.
Usually you do not need vitamins for large amounts, our body cant store them so you need small amount every day, but as I said before you do not need to take them as pills.
Most of fruits/vegetable we are enjoying offer us all the vitamins we need, except for vitamin B12 which is only acquired from meat, fish, cheese, egg yellow.
So when someone says to you, that he/she has not taken any vitamin - well in a concept he is lying, because we take vitamins in every day with our food.
Vitamins themselves are needed for better digesting, helping to reproduce our cellular structure and helping to fight against free radicals in our body.

I'm not taking any vitamins nowadays. I think I need some but I'm stubborn. I hope I won't get sick. I remembered taking vitamin C before and I got colds after I took them. It happened twice so I don't take vitamin C anymore. It's funny. I think we need B-Complex. It's important for normal cell growth and metabolism, etc. My husband's taking it everyday. Take it when you're full.

My everyday vitamins are Vitamin C to boast my immune system, Folic Acid since I am planning to get pregnant soon,Vitamin E for my skin and Vitamin B complex for my nerves since I felt tingling and pinning sensation when I am tired in both hands. I started drinking those vitamins since I am in college and found its very useful and lots of good effects in my body.

Well, vitamins can be a very controversial subject. I'm on the extreme pro-vitamin side. I have tried to read as much (hopefully accurate)information as as I can to become well informed. My mother took many vitamins every day years before it became the thing to do. She was very healthy and at 65 yrs old was mistaken for being in her early 50's. Then she saw something on tv and started backing off the vitamins. She said an elderly woman had passed away and "they" (whoever -they- are)found all these undissolved vitamins in her stomach. Well, sometimes older individuals don't drink as much as they should when taking pills. If that was even true. Anyway, very slowly her health declined and she got a little cold here, a little cold there and one day she had congestive heart failure and needed an operation. She was never really healthy again. I, myself, have osteoarthritis in lots of joints. I haven't had an ache or a pain anywhere in three years. I don't take any medications as I don't believe in them for myself (for the most part). I prefer holistic remedies. They have worked well for me. I have not had a cold in maybe 9 years. I haven't had the flu in about 15. I've had the flu maybe 4 times that I can remember. I'm not a super health freak, I don't exercise much or preach to anybody. But I take a LOT of vitamins and supplements because I think I don't eat quite as good as I should. I eat mostly organics but I don't eat that often. Anyway, I've dragged on enough. The question was "Do you take a vitamin every day?" not how's your mother and how's your health and what do you believe in? Sorry for going on.....and on. Yeah, I take vitamins every day. ;-)

You are! And I am so glad you're well now. I wouldn't blame cancer on lack of vitamins. It's an insidious disease that can creep up on anyone. I fear it greatly. I'm glad you found my post interesting. My 2 (adult) nieces think I'm nuts. :-)
Not sure if I'm -very- healthy. I just never get sick. I don't think I could run 20 yards to save my life!

Hello bjc66bjc
I take vitamin C because I have weak immune system. I also eat fruits and vegetable because more natural is better.:) I guess other vitamins should be taken alternately.

I take some vitamins and supplements at least part of the time. My mom gave us vitamins before it was considered the normal thing to do. I think that may be why I am pretty healthy now. People who eat well may be able to get all the nutrition they need from their food, but I consider a multivitamin to be a cheap insurance policy. I do take a calcium and magnesium combination. I take another vitamin because it helps with my aches and pains. If your doctor does a blood test and you are low on certain vitamins or minerals he will let you know.

Yes Gerty thats exactly what I thought,,,the doctor should
be able to determine if you have a vitamin defeciency,,even
tho some things are just common sense...I think we should
know and pay attention to our bodies...which is a great indiction
of something being missing or in need of a supplement...we
just seem to not pay attention to the warning signs most of
the time...

Taking vitamins on regular basis is not advisable unless it is recommended by doctor. some vitamins specially fat soluble may be unsafe if they are consumed in excess.

i do take one every day just because i am a horrible eater. i don't like to eat much because i really can't taste it due to nose issues. i don't eat the things i should but eat what i like to eat so that is why i take one, just to make sure i am getting the vitamins that i need.

For those who are able to eat a balanced meal every time they get to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as avoid food that does not promote health, like 'junk food' as others would refer to them, I guess they are very fortunate. Being able to eat food which has the right amount of vitamins that the body needs is quite necessary for most people these days, especially when you get to see some of the surrounding pollutants in different places around the world. Of course, there are places which is still abundant with nature.
Before, I would get to take different kinds of vitamins, depending on what is available and what my mom would tell us to take. Then, there were times when we didn't have any of that and we didn't really get ill or whatever. I guess what we get to eat at home had enough to sustain the vitamins that our body needed.
Recently though, we got to take vitamins and supplements again. Essentials from USANA. A Multi-Vitamin and an Anti-Oxidant. It has been helpful for we are able to experience the benefits which are quite visible. I even got to 'endorse' it to my girlfriend when she herself noticed how it improved I was. She wanted to take them herself so I brought her to where I buy them and she is taking her Essentials as well. She is also taking Active Calcium since she feels that she needs it. So far, she has not been complaining about her back a few weeks after taking the Active Calcium Optimizer, along with the Essentials (^_^ )

Actually, I merely shared what I have so far experienced with taking vitamins or supplements. Just so happens that early on, my mother gave us the chance to have some later on as taking vitamins early when we were young wasn't part of our daily routine. I believe that before, when we were still small, Flinstone Vitamins were quite popular. I don't know why I have not seen a commercial like that anymore.
For information, I believe that Humunuk really knows about these things as he clearly stated that we do take vitamins from the food that we eat so, when somebody did say that they have not taken any vitamins for the day yet, perhaps they are not aware that they still do when they consume the food they always eat or they have not really eaten anything at all (^_^")

I took vitamins C for my immune system, I took it when Im still in the big city having too much pollution around. My doctor prescribed me B complex when he told me I was lack of it. The vitamin A was for my own needs since I read it that is great for my skin and for anti oxidant.

I try to remember to take a vitamin everyday. But i to seem to forget about them all the time. It seems to be one of those things that your mind says isn't important to remember. But your body would probably tell you otherwise. I think anything you digest has some nutrition in it. So even if people tell me they don't make a difference. I still take them just for added protection in case they do.

You do not need to take vitamin supplements if you are able to eat balanced meals daily. Doctors typically recommend supplements to help quicken a patient's recover, or to make wounds heal fast. It is also advised on people who don't have access to healthy foods, which are supposedly our main source of vitamins and minerals. A person in good physical condition should do well without supplements, for as long as he/she takes on a healthy diet and exercises regularly. You may also consult the food pyramid to know which foods to consume in large amounts, and which foods to eat in moderation. I take grapeseed extracts, which are said to be more 20x more potent than vitamin c and e, because I don't always get enough sleep.

despite not being able to sleep at least 8 hours a day, i still feel that i am in the best of health. also according to studies, grapeseed extracts help fight the adverse effects of UV rays, and have antioxadants too. i don't remember the last time i got sick; i feel like i have a strong immune system. there was this one time when the whole family got sick with cold and fever one after the other, but i remained untouched by the virus.

I get a yearly blood panel done and every year I get a reminder to take a multi-vitamin because my iron is borderline okay. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I really should though and I feel better if I do take a multivitamin.

I am drinking vitamin C only if I am sick, if I have any cold or I am worried I am on my way to get sick.
I was asking my boyfriend to drink vitamin B, because it's good for his kidneys problems, having stones in both kidneys, this vitamin had to help him deal better with the pains.
I am not sure that drinking vitamins for very long is a good thing. Having a health problem like yours, with the cancer, is a good reason for making your immune system stronger - you need it and probably this is why it was suggested to you.
But it's not likely for everyone, as I have read it may turn into a bad thing if someone is taking too much vitamins too.

Hi suggar, thanks for your response...I totally agree with
you about too many vitamins are not a good thing and whats
to many for some may not be too many for others..
I am sure some of us need different supplements than others..
Enjoy your evening!!!!1

Well, some people just do better. Some,on the other hand, lack this ability. But,since I find it hard to have great excesses on vitamins,I don't see the problem in taking them.
I found out that you see what vitamins do when you don't take them anymore.
Currently,I am taking a vitamin complex,which brings A,B,C,D,E,K vitamins,accompanied by minerals,such as calcium,copper,zinc,magnesium,manganese etc.I take them everyday,just after my breakfast.
