a weekend away..

We went away to Portush in Northern Ireland this weekend for a little mini break and stayed in a caravan. Or trailor for our American friends.
But this was no ordinary caravan. We are talking central heating, gas cooker, separate bedrooms, hot walk in shower and a flushing toilet!
We thought we were in for a weekend of roughing it, and truth be told the place was better decorated than my own home lol! There was even a flat screen tv lol!
I never used to understand the appeal of a caravan. I always thought, for the same price you could rent an apartment, or a hotel room.. why rent a caravan. But after the weekend I realised its all about the atmosphere. Hundreds of caravans all near each other and kids running about etc.. it’s so much fun!
This is the link to show you the caravans.. and these are only the Luxury ones. They get even fancier!

What do you think of this?

I absolutely love camping and I have done the primitive camping with tents.
I do have to agree with stine though, what it looks like you posted, these caravans are not moved?
Where I am from these are called mobile homes, but they don't go anywhere and people actually live in, and it is usually people who are poor, they are not rented out for a weekend.
Then we have campers. The picture stine posted is similar to what we had when I was a child and we would go camping for a week every year. This didn't have bathroom facilities, but it did have a gas stove and heater.
Then there are bigger ones that move and this is what I thought you were talking about, like the one I posted and is similar to what my neighbor has. This baby has everything one needs, stove, A/C, heater, bathroom...Because it runs on a generator, whenever we loss power due to storms, my neighbor goes out in his camper for light and to keep warm/cool depending on the weather.
As for the atmosphere of camping? Yes, there is nothing like kids running around, the smell of campfire and the sounds of insects singing me to sleep..I love it...

I love camping in a tent as long as the weather isn't bad and the ground isn't lumpy. In fact I have a perfect spot in my backyard and my son and I camped out once this year and hopefully will camp out more before it gets too cold. My husband really can't because he has back problems, so this is something I do to spend time with my son. Plus, I really enjoy listening to the insects, (as long as they are outside the tent), to help me to go to sleep..:)

They are able to move. The are currently on legs with concrete etc to support them, but they can actually be undug and then moved.. In actual fact they weren't there about 10 years ago whenever I stayed in a "real" caravan on the same campsite lol!
They have spaces for people to camp in tents. Then spaces for people in their little camper vans. Then spaces for caravans like the ones you and stine uploaded.. THEN the have the ones that don't generally move, then the more luxurious version of these [the ones I was in] THEN.. as if that wasn't enough, they also have ones that are little houses. Literally never move. They have balconys and patios lol!
I don't really like camping in a tent though.. it scares me a little!
I want one of these!!

We occasionally have visitors who show up in campers which are better equipped than our house. I love the way that space needs to be maximised in all sorts of clever ways. I'm not sure I could live like that long term though. I seem to accumulate far too much stuff.

I feel exactly the same about my stuff. I was only there for one weekend and had ample space for mine and my partners clothes and toiletries, but my partners sister was staying for a week, and could barely fit her and her songs belongings into their room, despite it being the biggest room lol!

They get bigger and better than the one I was in!
They are just so awesome. It's like having the luxury of an apartment but with a camping atmosphere lol!
And Stine, I think I would love to buy one one day! They are around £8000 lol!
