The ugly consequences of having scars

I had an accident when I was kid, and it left a mark on both my legs. But it doesn't stop me from wearing shorts or going to the beach. I know that my legs are not the "for display" type, but i don't think it should keep from doing things that i love, or from wearing whatever makes me feel comfortable. i notice some people glance at them, but i pretend to not really care. i tried everything to make the scars go away--peeling, scar creams, laser, but none of them worked. it's not my fault that i have scars on, and i believe that scars should not stop me from enjoying life.

I agree. I have a few scars myself, most are small and on my hands and arms, but the worse one, was my first one. It is on the inside of my arm and because I never had a cut like that before, I was scared, so the doctor didn't make neat little stitches, so it looks pretty bad. But by now, I just ignore it and it has faded some over the years and rarely do people see it, since it is the inside, to even notice it..

I don't know about it being not noticeable, just it has faded. It can only be seen if I lift my arm and it is a good 2-inch scar and like I said, the doctor was not concerned about how neat he made the stitches, so the scar is jagged. I think I had like 12-15 stitches, so is one is paying attention, he or she can see it.

Yeah. Some things just can't be avoided. It's a good thing that yours are not noticeable anymore.

Your not the only one with scars and people star at people for the wrong reasons. The other day i saw a guy waking around the store with his entire face scarred up and i just usually want to know what happened and why they are there. I want to know reasons behind everything most of the time. My boyfriend went i started dating him would never wear shorts and i got him to wear shorts, we live in florida its very hot here. he got in a bad motorcycle accident and his right leg has a very bag scar on it but its not the reason to go around not wearing shorts. My little cousins think that my boyfriend is the best and call his scar a snake or something like that LOL. so make the best out of it and if someone asks just let them know.

Scars make men look tough. My husband don't have scars like mine; his legs look better than mine and we always laugh about it.

I think people will stare or glance thats how human are we are curious as a cat . The good think your doing what you like , you are not making what people do stop you from wearing what you like your comfortable in your own skin . As you said its not your fault and its very encouraging to others in that situation . People will stare at a woman with stretch mark , a man that is too tan , anything they can to take their mind off there problem . People stare at anyone they want to even if your have no scare . continue to live and enjoy your life the way you want .

I agree with you. I heard that people who are more mindful of the way other people look are insecure. I just wish I can still sincerely smile at them despite their bad habits; i don't want to hold grudges on anyone, you know.

Your absolutely right, you should not let any scars get you down and you certainly should not have to change the way you dress because of them. Just ignore those small minded people that glance, your right it's not your fault you have them and people should accept you the way you are.

Thanks. I am relieved that there are people who do not look on someone just because of her scars.

I agree with sam. A friend of mine has a scar down her cheek from a dog attack when she was little, so she can't exactly hide it. I think it's one of the most awesome looking things I've ever seen, though. I'm glad that she's not ashamed of it at all and accepts it as it is.

That is awesome you don't let the scars bother you, and you shouldn't. I have scars on my arms and they are not a pretty sight, I only expose them in public when I have to such as when I have to have blood tests and such done and even then it's a major embaraassment for me. I admire people who have scars and still live their life the way they're supposed to. I have a new scar on my body from surgery as well but as it is rather "normal" to have this kind I won't let it bother me either. The ones on my arms are a different kind of story.

I just don't have a choice. the scars are on the lower part of my legs, and i can't wear long pants everyday.

scars make us strong and i always believe in that. I too have a scar on my face, three scars due to chicken pox and it is quite ugly.. lucky i do not have scars on my legs as my dad was quite protective of me when iw as a kid. But my face was not able to escape from the chicken pox..and well i have big ones on my face but it never really did bother me too.. its like what do i care? its my face

Maybe when you earn more here in myLot, you can save money for a simple skin grafting to cover your scar.lol. Personally I too had a very big scrap from a fire indecent in my grade school year. Its so big that you can see it 10 meters away. But it never give me any inferiority complex as I grow old. I remember going the swimming as my PE class during my college year. Most of my classmates then would often laugh and tease me about it. But since, I had learned to ignore them, it doesn't affect me in any way.

You should not cover them, if you can't get rid of them. If people give you bad stares because of this, it's their problem and "certificate of soul poorness", not yours. Just forget about them, don't let them hinder you in whatever you do!

Thanks. But I still hope that there is a way to get rid of scars.

I also had a scar, close to my right eye. i felt in the bathroom when i was a kid. lame. anyway, i just ignore it when people glance twice just to make sure they see it clearly. and i don't think it affect my life much, or at least i want to believe it. So far, i haven't try to conceal it, and accepted it as part of my feature. only one of my friend asked me about it, and she asked politely, so i tell her my lame story. later she told me that my friends, including her, have been wondering about it, and gossiping about the cause of the scar. some of them think it comes from knife cut, like in movies. i can't help but smile at that thought.

My advice: Never care too much about small things, your another things is more important. Practice gratefulness. Many people have been worse than you, and you must be happy whatever you are. Maybe to hide that scar you can use long pants...

I hope that many people would think the way you think especially those people who had scars like you. I have this friend who has scar on her CHEST. Because of that, she does not wear any sphagetti strap top or even low hanging blouse that might show her scar to other people. Because of that she became so old fashioned in choosing her clothes. I always tell her not to mind what others say but she's really can't show it in public.Anyway, i'll make her see your post and i hope that this will enlighten her.

I so agree with you. So what if you have scars, as long as you are comfortable with what you wear. If wearing shorts makes you comfortable the wear it.

I think that scars can be removed with a skin technology. I have heard somewhere that tatoo can be removed with a technology, and for sure, out there, there is a technology that can remove your scar. Oh ya, have you tried skin surgery??? something like plastic surgery.

Of course a silly scar shouldn't hold you back from anything in life, I know this is easier said than done though for some people. I bet a lot of people don't even notice it, those that do are looking to closely. Take care.

Having really bad or noticeble scars can make us very self concious. I am really glad to hear that after all the ways u tried to get rid of the scars that you have become comfortable enough not to worry about having to hide them. That is wonderful. I used to cut myself when I was in high school and so I have about a hundred scars on my arms. In the past 10 years they have faded a lot and people dont usually notice them anymore. I have a few stretch marks on my stomach as well from having 2 children. I am pretty self concious of them.

I agree with you 100%. Scars are just a mark to our skin and cat stop us from enjoying our lives and even if people glance to it better to ignore them and continue you enjoying your life. I admit that I have some scars on both legs because when I was young I love to run, ride in a bicycle and climbed trees and I don't mind if I get scars or not as long as I enjoy what I am doing. I also wear mini shirt and short walking short because its very comfortable and love to wear it.
