In our country, USA we have so many different cultures, from the very first people arriving here to the present times different cultures reside here. One that interests me, mostly because my Hubby comes from there, is the Southern culture. It's true there are cultures within cultures in the Southern USA, but no matter where you go this area, it still retains it's feelings of seperateness from the rest of the USA. Do you live in a country that is divided in some manner?

Yes I do live in a divided country and its called the United States of America. It is a shame that this country is divided. I am from the north, NYC to be exact. And it is totally different here then in the southern states of this county. I still notice prejudice between the north and south. And I see it here as well. From upstate NY to here in the city. We are all here from other countries to begin with. SO why the animosity? I think prejudice is being kept alive by the politicians. They hate one another and anyone who is not like them. So we live in this cesspool. I also know that anywhere I go outside NYC people do not take to us for some reason. And thats a shame.

I am sorry you feel unliked by other people, I think you just haven't met the right people. Since we worked for NASA we always met many people from many parts of the country and enjoyed most of them. White, black, green or blue we never spent much time on their color or any other differences. We just opened our homes and our hearts and enjoyed them. On the West Coast many people meet and mix without problems. Of course there are always pockets of people who seperate themselves for what ever reasons. Since there is so much space out here, these people are just left to themselves unless they start trouble.

Well, I still believe that prejudice is being kept alive here in this country. Don't feel sorry for me. I have met many good people in my life. I have no problem with people. It seems others, or maybe other religious groups or organizations. They seem to have a problem with the rest of us. In my neighborhood alone, all what I call the normal people are now the outcasts and are being pushed out by another group. I personally do not find that fair at all. This is supposed to be america, not a segregated america.

Hi, I am from India. we also have different cultures. In every state different languages are spoken and each state has different cultures. In India there are people of many religions and cultures are different. But we are together to celebrate different festivals of different religions. India has integrity in diversity.

I knew this about India and have always been amazed that so many different languages and beliefs can get together to form a single country. Blessings

Hi Savypat. I'm from the US too so I know what you mean. I especially thought this when I watched the Olympics and saw that Guam was participating as well.. and they are 'part' of the US in some ways but have their very own culture and traditions. After this, it got me thinking about even the East coast vs West coast in the US..where we also live completely different lifestyles as well as attitudes, so they say. And it has gotten me wondering which is the 'real' "America".

I think the real USA is the whole country. No matter what the differences are every four years we all get together to vote. We all pay taxes for our central government and that provides many services all across the country. We tend to forget just how much our lives are influenced by our central government. But the taxcode is ruled by wealth and that is the same for all of us, no matter where you live. Of course that is just the fiscal tax, state, county and city taxes very from place to place. Schooling, provided by the Federal Government is taught in the same language and is meant to be the same for all. However that has not been shown to be true. More and more effort is being made to bring all our public schools us to par. The idea is that we are all one country.

In my country we have several coexisting cultures because it is a country that has always accepted immigration. I think there are some problems, but I confessthat I donĀ“t know about them as much as I should.

That is one of the things that I have always thought was wonderful about living in the US, I loved the fact that even as a child I was able to be exposed to a variety of cultures through my classmates. When I was in elementary school was when Toyota opened their first plant in the US and I had the opportunity to go to school with a lot of people that had just moved here from Japan. In addition to that, this area really always has been quite a mixing pot.

Every country have their own culture, their behaviours are influenced by its beliefs. Traveling to a certain country is inevitable to find ways to learn their culture. It is a sign of knowing the heritage of the place.

Our country is known for its unity in diversity. There are so many regions, communities, castes , sects, and sub-sects and each has its unique rituals and customs and cuisine and language too.But though there tends to be some clinging to one's own native tongue and people of the same region, people do get together and mingle a lot.English is known in the educated circles and in colleges students from all over come together.Even before 40 and odd years there was a healthy mix in our school and I have many friends who are from other communities and languages too. That is because I was fortunate to be educated in a convent. Our country is a beautiful one with its diverse cultures but unity of spirit.Only in some pockets where there is less education there are riots and clashes that encourage groupism and acrimony.

It is a very different place here where I am from than the places I have visited. I am from Tennessee. I didn't realize how different it actually was until I started to travel a little. Then I really saw. It has it's ups and downs I guess. It has a haunted history for sure.

My country has the same story. The Philippines is divided into 3 major islands (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) Mindanao is dominated by Muslim bros/sister and the long battle between rebel and militant group still going one for 3-4 decades. Muslim group wants the island to be separated from the Philippine government but Christian people protested with the idea. Each islands has distinct culture and tradition especially when it comes to Fiesta/Holiday celebration acquired from Spaniards. In Northern part of Luzon island there is a place called Cordillera, the only place in the Philippines that Catholicism/church didn't penetrate during Spaniards regime. Most native people there are pagans and they have unique culture and tradition that still exist and made them distinct from the other parts of the country until this time.

Hi, Savypat, I live in Bulgaria, on the Balkan peninsula in Europe. This is a small place but we have different communities too. We have regions with Turks because our country have been part of the Ottoman Empire. We have also Armenian and Jewish communities and, of course, Gypsies. But the Bulgarians in the different regions have their peculiarities too. I like people in the mountains.

Birds of the same feather flock together -- yes. Though we travel thousands of miles from our home-- we do make groups with like minded people or people from our place. there may be exceptions. In uSA -- it is the same case in India also nowadays-- we do not know about our neighbors also. Everybody is busy in their work and with their family problems. good day.

I live in a archipelago - country in Asia. We are divided in islands, also with different dialects and cultures. Good thing, we have a national language, so we can connect to each other. We have diffrerent religious beliefs, traditions and a lot of superstitious beliefs. Though, we have all these kinds of differences, we tend to come together with a common thing. Thanks
