While returning after eating in the eatery in the highway, we stopped in a small shop on way, this shop sells chocolates, cold drinks, candy; it is managed by childless, old couple.
We bought some candy from there and hubby gave them 100 rupees extra; to my utter surprise they refused to accept it; politely said , no Sir we are not beggars; we earn here enough for our frugal leaving.
Hats off to this old couple; they are much better than the educated guys who adopt all kinds of illegal means to become rich overnight.
Have you ever met any such persons?
Are you in favor of earning and spending decently?
Please share your experience and comment on this.

That's very good of them to do that, they probably would've felt guilty taking more then they felt needed which shows strong character. Where I come from here in Canada, it's unheard of for a person to offer more than the price of an item so I can't say as though I've ever experienced anything like this. I am in favor of earning and spending decently, a lot of people who have good jobs and make good money still end up in debt for years, so that right there says something about their spending habits.

I experienced it.
When I see a person with disabilities who was selling newspapers on the street, I stopped to buy and give more money. He returns and says: "Sorry, I was selling, instead of begging".
Rarely meet people like that noble. But, I really admire them, and sometimes ashamed of myself.

I am not going to go to the extent of saying that I am too proud to accept charity because I am not, there have been times in my life when I've had a lot of struggle and I am very thankful for the help that we have been able to get through those times in my life.
However, I've also had some experiences in my life that have taught me to save and spend money a lot more responsibly than I have in the past. It is because of these lessons that I really believe that I have become a better consumer.

Well, at least you know that they're decent. Here, there are places where people would steal money from you. They don't choose who looks rich or not, if they think you have money, beware. And to add up, they're also willing to kill for money, too. Your only choice is to give whatever you have.

Yes I am in favor of earning and spending decently. I believe in "karma". It gives us sense of pride and joy when we work hard for our children.

On the one hand your kind gesture of offering money to the old couple is praiseworthy. But on the other hand their polite refusal to accept the free income is a situation which deserves rich encomiums. While the craze for money and wealth are rampant in most societies ,the case in point stand out as an elegant example of virtuous living.Kudos to the old couple and let them be blessed.

Touching story and experience you have. I am sad that the old couple is childless, my heart always go otu to see decent people who live alone childless. I remember my high school teacher, he was economic teacher and childless too. He was already retired but our principle called him back for teaching because he was really a good teacher. I remember he never brought any aconomic book into class, only book and pen to check our attendance. His clothes just simple, but neat and clean. We called him Mr.Smith because he teach us economic subject and "smith" is from "Adam Smith" well known as Expert OF Economic.
My friend told me that he live only with his nephew, he paid for his nephew's school fee every month from his salary, save some money for tax and daily need and the rest he donate to orphan house. He is quite simple teacher that all students love and adore him. He refuse if any parent offer him extra money ask for private class for their children, he will do it for free. He said it is his duty as teacher to share his knowledge to them who want to learn. The only way we can give him a present was on christmast, graduation day, and on his birthday. i dont know what happen to him now he was pretty much old when I was in high school. Still remember him as Mr.Smith, I have forgot his real name.

wow, so nice old couple. Yeah some people make it fast trying to become rich over night and some people are happy what they have. I have my granny who has a house on rent and she never takes from anyone for her daily survival. And sometimes she helps other people if they are in need. She is in her 90s. I admire her for his. thanks for sharing. have a wonderful day.

I like the old couple. No matter rich or poor, we must depend on ourselves. Only live in that way, we can be respected. I don't like those baggars, some of them are even very young, but they just don't work, they follow you to ask money. I look down upon them. May the old couple be happy forever!
