I have tried keeping my eyes open when I sneeze but I don't remember me being successfully at that. As for the eyes popping out, I have not heard about it before. The worst I have seen is someone I knew getting a slipped disc because of a sneeze. If I am not wrong, the strength at which air is being blown out when we sneeze is equal that of a hurricane. If it does generate such strength, it is not surprising to see such injuries.

I didn't come across that saying but it is really something which makes us anxious. But as far as I am concerned, I haven't sneezed anytime with my eyes open nor do I feel I will ever be able to do that. It vibrates whole of our head and how can we even think of keeping our eyes open. Secondly why should we do that. I like it going the way it goes. Trying unnecessary things may surely harm us in some way or the other. Infact try this...tightly close your nose while sneezing, and see what happens, you feel completely unconscious for couple of seconds. And then I do not think you would try it with your eyes open.

Yes, its is possible. I've seen it on TV. There's this guy who sneezes with wide eyes open. At first you can't really see if he closes or open his eyes while doing it. But when they view it in slow motion, I can see the eye really open. And I don't think the guy's eyes popped-up out of the skull.

AHHHH!!!! Don't do it, LOL...I heard the same thing and tried it with my eyes open. They did not pop out of my skull, but it was very uncomfortable, and they got all watery and wishy washy. Other posters may have similar stories, so I'm just adding to it, LOL. Don't try it! Everyone is different, it seems, but for me, I would just have to say plainly and equivocally, just do not do it. They did feel like they were about to pop out. But then, I'm a big sneezer and cannot even keep them quiet. Kind of inherited that from dad I guess, the Big Sneeze, lol. Take care :)

I don't really think that your eyes would pop out of your skull if you were able to sneeze with your eyes open, however, I also believe that it is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. The reason that you do close your eyes when you sneeze is because of the fact that it is just a reflex action. In the split second that you are sneezing, you really don't have any kind of control over your body. It only lasts for less than a second, but you can't control any of your muscles during the time that it takes to sneeze.

Hee hee, really? I think it's human nature to automatically close your eyes when you sneeze - it just happens. So next time I want to sneeze, I'll make a conscious effort to keep my eyes open to see what happens (well hopefully my eyes won't pop out - ha ha).

Yes I can also say while sneezing impossible to close the eyes. But still I not observe this now after reading your discussion I will check it because my sneezing problem is more.

I've heard that it's possible by holding your top and bottom lid open, not recommended since you could do serious damage to your eyeball. I have heard that the eyeballs can pop out of your skull, I don't know if it would be quite that severe but I bet you'd pull blood vessels in the eyes at the very least.

Hi inkyuboz, it's so natural for me to sneeze with my eyes close. I don't think I would be comfortable if I purposely keep my eyes open when sneezing Moreover if would be dreadful as well if the so-called scary situation mentioned above would happen truly dare not try to do so certainly

I haven't heard about this! I have only heard about the study that you can't sneeze with your eyes open . I think there may be some people who can though in the world. It might be true thought that it can happen? where exactly did you hear this? I dobn't think sneezing with your eyes open is possible though for most people.
