My cat beat up 2 pit bulls

Well, the rescued cat, Leonardo managed to sneak past someone coming out of the back door. He ran through one yard, I went after him and almost caught him. He managed to get through the fence through my yard, and into the neighbors driveway. By the time I got to the front it was too late, he had crawled under the gate into the neighbors yard and into the mouths of 2 pit bulls. He did manage to get underneath a firepit that barely could protect him. I ran to the door in a panic and told my neighbors what happened, and she went out to chase her pits into the house. Her husband came home just then and let me into the yard to retrieve Leonardo. He lost part of his long, fluffy gorgeous tail, and has some bruising on his backside from the mouths of the dog, but is otherwise ok. He did manage to scratch one of the dogs pretty good. I am rather proud of him because nothing that enters that yard ever comes out. Leonardo not only survived, he did not get hurt very badly (internal injuries and such) and left one dog a mess. Hopefully he will learn his lesson and stay in the house from now on. I had a friend build a gate on the enclosed back porch so he cannot sneak out of the door. So far, he has been cooped up in the guest bedroom. Tomorrow he gets the stitches out and the cone off his head, and he will be free to roam the house again. I guess we will see if he tries to get out or not. I hope he does not try, it would break my heart if he got himself into more trouble and hurt again.

Wow!!! He's lucky to have survived! Hopefully, he has learned his lesson and now knows that cats belong inside. I'm fortunate in that my cat doesn't want to go outside. She will even sit at an open door and just look around.

Nope, he did not learn his lesson. lol--he has escaped a few times out the front door, and dives for the grass. I think he misses being in the grass, but I can't take a chance on him running off on me again and perhaps meeting a new danger. Wow, you are so lucky to have a cat that has no interest in the outdoors. Let me caution you though, right around 3-5 yrs old, cats seem to get very interested in bolting out the door. I have heard this many times over. They tend to get lost too, owners can't find them. I hope they all have been found and are being taken good care of again, and I hope your little girl never develops an interest in the outdoors.

Well, she's seven now and still no interest further than looking out the door. I don't think the cats you describe are necessarily 'getting lost'. I think that people find them and take care of them. I know I've had several cats over the years that just wandered up and decided they were going to live with me who had obviously been well taken care of. One big black guy had even been neutered and declawed. Why he wandered away I never knew but he had a good life with me.

I'm so glad to hear that. Goodness, I have no idea why a cat would leave it's home like that. I hope mine never decide to do that; it would break my heart. you are a good caretaker of the cats.

Oh my gosh! That's a very traumatic thing for a cat. But at least he survived. We own a pit bull so we do know how deadly its bite can be. Your cat is one lucky feline.

We also own a pitbull, not a purebread he's actually a pitbill lab mix. I don't trust him with animals that we don't know, he gets this look in his eye that I do not like at all.

Yes, he is a very lucky cat. Not one but 2 pits in the yard he ran into! He did have some bruising along his backside and underneath that raised from the bite one of the dogs put on him. When I saw that, i freaked and thanked God because that could have been deadly. I do not know how Leonardo managed to get out of her grasp, but he did. Amazing, truly amazing.

Wow, you must've been thinking the worst when this was all taking place. I'm glad to hear that your cat is OK, she must be a fiesty one to survive between two pitbulls or any dog for that matter. Hopefully she learned a life lesson from this and doesn't scare her owner again!!

He is a feisty one for sure. Doesn't know how to play well with others, but he does try. He plays roughly with the other cats, and they have not taken a shine to him. I feel badly because he really is a good cat (when he's not running out the door). He likes to pounce and slap, and he is only playing! His rough nature is what saved him, that and he is a pretty big cat.

Im sorry to hear that he lost part of his tail. But he did good with the pit bulls, he is lucky that he didnt hurt too bad. i think he doesnt have any braveness to jump over fences to your neighbour's yard anymore

I hope you are right about that! In the bedroom I had confined him to so he could heal, we could hear the dogs. He got scared and tried to run under the bed, and I told him doggies outside, Leonardo in the house. He seemed to understand that and didn't continue to go under the bed and hide.

Ahhh what a little terror. I'm so glad he is OK though that must have been very scary for all of you. Hopefully he will not try to escape like that again

Today was his first day out of the bedroom, and he did behave very well. Even so, we are guarding the doors and taking precautions. Doc said he healed up very well, and was surprised how quickly his fur is coming in. He had a difficult time finding some of the stitches.
