I work at a hospice which is located inside a Hospital ( we just moved there 4 month ago), we have our own lunchroom were we can heat up our food in the microwave if we bring our own or we can eat at the Hospital Cafeteria. Their food is pretty good but of course you have to pay to eat there. Now right next to the cafeteria is the Doctors Lounge were all the Doctors and Physicians eat for free. I don't get it, the people who make the most money don't have to pay to eat....What's really going on ?

Yeah, that sux. Those that can afford to pay don't have to. The thing is, everyone who works there is on the staff. It's one thing to show respect to the doctors who have spent years studying to gain their profession but not at the cost of belittling the other staff members who basically work for a pittance but who work hard.

You can bet your sweet bippy that it is a part of their salary package and therefore an expense they can claim from tax man.

You said it, I do housekeeping and it's not easy cleaning an 18 patient facility plus picking up after the nurses and other staff members....I get really hungry and sure would like to eat for free too.

Hello missy. The Dr might get free meals as part of their wages. After all that extra perk can help keep some expenses down. It might not be much but it all adds up.

You won't get my vote on that cuz I did the same. Just think all those people who went to school have to struggle now anyway cuz of their loans. I don't know I'm just grasping at straws looking for some reason I have it better ;-)

Wow, doctors working in your that hospital is great. Able to enjoy free lunch. As for the local government hospital doctors here, i see they still have to pay for the lunch. But, i am not sure as for the doctors working in the private hospitals. Sometimes, it seems not fair as higher earners are getting much better benefits from the others.

It is really a shame that the less fortunate have to pay for everything on the rich don't

We can't help it but that's how the system works. Usually the less fortunate have less opportunities like the rich. The lowly employee receives his pay with the withholding tax already cut while the big businessmen do not declare their profit honestly. The double standards apply in every arena. The moneyed can bail out and pay for public service with the poor struggling way down under.

Wow, really? This does not seem right to me at all. That would make sense of how they become richer though you are right on that one. It is a large expense if you're working there to have to buy from the cafeteria because it is pretty high priced each day to buy lunch. Now because the doctors eat free they are saving that much every day for what you have to buy. Unless they just want to buy their own lunches or something but.... that just seems wrong. They get to save that much and the richest of rich in USA will never be taxed under the plan we are in right now. Unless something changes we will continue to be a down sliding economy and our middle class will not recover. Here is a prime example of why.

that is pretty shocking. sad that your hospital does that. have you looked into why they do that? with the money that doctors make, i shouldn't think they need to have free food while the poor worker ants have to pay for it.

I think this is their benefits that's why they can have a free meal and a nice lounge. Their meal time also isn't on time so they need a separate pantry to be able to eat in a flash or in anytime. If you work in the hospital you can also eat free, but your time of eating will be the same as the patients time for eating, of course you can ask the food that they serves for patients there.

It sounds like unfair. They have a lounge where you can eat for free BUT its only exclusive for Doctors and Physicians??..What duh??..Why do they have to do that? All workers should be included..

I would bring my own lunch just as you and perhaps buy lunch every now and then. Most companies will give out perks to employees. Perhaps you have a perk that you might have overlooked? When I worked for the phone company in '79 I had four phones and ended up getting a discount on them. I also ended up getting a free taxi ride home because I worked the 2nd shift. The first shift didn't get that perk. It was a wonderful service and I wished more companies would do that. As for the doctors and nurses I think it is great that the hospital will cover their lunch for them. Many work 12 hour shifts and many opt to stay over at the hospital in case of an emergency with my daughter who required a MRI due to a tumor that she had in her brain needed to have it done right away so the doctor could alleviate the pressure that was building up in her brain due to the brain fluid. When a doctor was ready to leave and he came into the emergency where we were at and he saw my daughter he opted to stay and take that MRI for her. That was a godsend for sure! So don't be too quick to judge special perks when you just never know who could benefit from them. They may give one to you or with your next job you may be entitled to one.

We do have some perks and we get a lot of families and some companies that are affiliated with us to bring us donuts, bagels and Pizza's quite often, it's not just about the free food but it seems that people with more money always get better deals no matter what. Thank you for your nice coment

It's just the way it is. I have nothing against about them eating for free. They deserves more than that. Life as doctors, surgeons or physician is never been that easy. I actually salute all of them. They've sacrifice a lot compared to ordinary people. They even sacrifice their own family for the sake of other people. Some hospitals are providing free meals for the doctors and all the staffs working. They might get richer as we might think but one thing is for sure, they have worked their way up to the top.

I know. My aunt is a nurse in the ER and she has to pay for any food in the cafeteria but none of the Doctors have to pay. I think it is bull! There is no reason that the Doctors should be able to eat free when everyone else has to pay!

I totally agree with you, it should be free for all or none, they can still charge the visitors to eat but why the employees that work hard

Before, I used to complain of this kind. I scream about injustice. Not anymore. The hospital doctors would consider more important than you. Sorry. Hospitals are more afraid of losing a doctor than you. So the hospital gave the best service to the doctors. It is a fact, that have qualified doctors can make a full room. This is life. Be "someone important", then you would receive better treatment. My advice, don't be angry or sad! Because it will not solve the problem. Sincere and grateful with what we have, will be more happy. One more, be yourself.

Yup. Free food for the rich, make the poor pay for theirs. Of course there are those who would say "you can always bring your lunch" BUT - you still PAID for it - at the grocery store or where ever you got it. That's America for ya. Soon there will be no middle class at all. I thinks that's the general idea in Washington.

I usually bring my own lunch, maybe once a week i get a bowl of soup since it's pretty reasonable for $1.60 for a good size bowl....you would think a rich doctor could afford that
