Can't find tapes for my digtal video camera (camcorder) GR-D770U model

I walked into Best Buy this morning to buy tapes for my camcorder (the Mini DV cassettes) never thinking I'd have a problem getting them. After looking in the place where I had last bought them which seems like not too long ago, I went to ask an employee for help in finding the tapes. "I think this item has been discontinued" she said to my total disappointment. She went on to explain that technology keeps changing and that everything uses a memory card so video can be stored on dvd's and such. "So what am I supposed to do, throw out my camcorder?" I sighed. The saleswoman said it's possible to find these tapes on sites like Ebay but my best bet is to purchase a new camcorder. Here's what ticks me off, I don't have the money to buy a 300 hundred dollar or more brand new camcorder! this "old" one I bought in 2007 works like new and I don't have to waste time trying to figure out how it works like these new types they're selling. This is all just about making people spend more money! Case in point, the saleswoman said "Best Buy tries to come up with something new every week". No wonder there is an exchange policy where you trade in a product for the updated version. Empty handed I left the store realizing that I have two choices. Keep reusing tapes I do have or start planning on getting a new camcorder, if I don't have luck finding new tapes somewhere. What a hassle! Is making the tapes I'm looking for too much too ask? I guess so.

I'm not sure whether you need Hi8 or Mini DV but both are widely available from, for example: http://www.tapeonline.com or Amazon: (Mini DV): http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=tapes%20mini%20dv&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Atapes%20mini%20dv&page=1 or (Hi8): http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=tapes%20mini%20dv&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Atapes%20mini%20dv&page=1 Personally, I would always go for Amazon. I have always had very good service from Amazon dealers (and Amazon itself).

I think I need the Mini DV ones but a picture and description will point me in the right direction. Amazon is a good site! Trust is important when doing things online, there are lots of stories about people paying for something and then not receiving it. More than likely I'll buy the tapes on Amazon, as a side note I use Amazon's Mechanical Turk to make money online. Thanks for your help!

I looked up your camera model before I responded and my information is that you need Mini DV tapes. I only included the information on Hi8 because the previous responder mentioned them. If you work on Amazon Turk, of course, you receive payments into your Amazon account and buying the tapes is a very good way of using those payments.

Dude, please! The Hi8 tapes you need are available new for about $5 each on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=camcorder+tapes&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3 . There are a variety of brands to choose from at around that price. Tiger Direct only offers 60 minute tapes: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6132591&CatId=34 Hope that helps.

Thank you for the links! I'm glad I can at least still get the tapes, it's just that it was more convenient to buy them in person. Plus I am disappointed that stores are trying to squeeze more money out of people by "upgrading" products all the time!
