We usually thought that kids who are fat are healthy. They look cute being fat and chubby but if they are overweight and become obese. They will be at risk from medical conditions like eating disorders, shortness of breath, high blood pressure and a lot more.My son and I went to a pediatrician because of his asthma and the doctor told me that he should lose some weight because he is overweight. He told me that he should only eat one cup of rice per meal, no snacks and he should not take vitamins. I am following his doctors order but the thing is he can't stop eating. He is always starving and he is always eating. What will I do? Do I have to keep all the food like cookies and bread from him?

As hard as it would be, it sounds like you will need to keep cookies and breads from him. Besides eating well you should encourage physical activity by participating in this with him, ask him if he wants to go out for a walk with you.

You should not prohibit right away the eating habit of your child. What you will do is to lessen the quantity he eats every day. Do not always let your child drink cold water or soda drinks. Try to lessen the amount each day until he can control to make it every other day.

I would like to know how old is your son. If he´s a small boy, you shut your ears to his whinings and say "sorry" if he says he´s starving. You can give him some raw celery and carrots to munch but no rice, cookies or any snacks. Noone will starve if eatimng a small amount of bread for brekfast and tea. Don´t buy cookies, chocolate or any snacks. The only way to stop eating those things is not to have them around the house. You are not following the doctor´s orders if you say he cannot stop eating. Is he or isn´r he eating?

Yes, yes you do. I am surprised the doctor said no vitamins, but if he's eating a balanced diet, he doesn't need extra vitamins. Right now your son used to eating more food than is healthy for him, but if you keep him on a healthy eating plan -- and make sure yours is healthy, too -- without the extras, he will lose weight. If necessary, inform his school as well, so he's not getting extra calories above his limit while he's away from home. I am quite heavy and currently on a 1500 calorie diet, so I have a pretty good idea what he's dealing with. A lot of what he thinks of as hunger is likely cravings for fatty or sweet food he normally eats. Thoes cravings will likely quiet down with time, especially if you keep him active when possible and give him something to do besides eat in his free time. Frustration and boredom are two of the biggest reasons for overeating and eating an excess of 'comfort foods,' which are usually creamy or oily in nature. Walking, swimming and playing sports are good ways to keep busy and take some pounds off at the same time. To be honest, he will probably fight you every step of the way for awhile and demand more food than he should eat, but hopefully he will begin to recognize how much better it feels being able to breathe easier and have more energy because he's not carrying around that extra weight, and with that recognition, he will probably complain less, and perhaps stop altogether.
