Shooting Stars

There's something about seeing a shooting star that's almost magical. Probably because it's so rare, and so fleeting. Apparently the best time to see shooting stars that are part of the Perseid meteor shower is either tonight or last night, just before dawn. It was completely clouded over last night when I went to bed, but I awoke at 1am and the sky was clear. I set the alarm, and at 3.30am I woke the kids up and we all went outside in our PJs and coats and lay in the driveway to gaze at the heavens. Did you try and see the meteors last night, or do you plan to? Are they magical for you too?

Yeah, my husband and I stayed up until about 3am watching them. We got to see quite a few and it was awesome. There were a couple that were really really close to earth and they left like a blue trail behind them. I am really glad we got to see them.

The ones here were different, sort of like really bright flashes. I imagine that meant they burnt up really quickly. Maybe they´ll change over the period of the shower. It might be interesting to look again in another couple of nights. m Did you make wishes? I´m kicking myself coz I forgot!

They were talking about it before they went to bed but it was cloudy so I told them no. They were really excited when I woke them. Littlest is up for doing it again tonight but I think poor Mum needs her sleep!

very magical. Do you wish upon a shooting star?

I didn´t think of it until this morning. Doh. Do you think wishes a few hours old would still count? Otherwise I think the meteor shower can still be seen until the 23rd of the month. Who need sleep when you can stay up all night making wishes?

Oh that's nice. Have you seen shooting stars? I also find it overwhelming to see shooting stars. I am literally star struck ever time I see one. I even forgot to make a wish as they always say you should do when you one. I can't remember when was the last time I saw a shooting star and I wish I can see one or let my son see one.

Oh yes, they are magical, even whimsical for me too!But unfortunately I haven't seen a single meteor shower as beautiful as you've seen for the past years of my existence. You are so lucky to been able to see one. I wish I could see shooting stars like you do.

Someone above mentioned wishing on a star. I wish I'd remembered that last night ;)

Oh, now I know what they were! Perseid meteor! We tried to watch it the night before last here in Austria, but did not see a thing and later on it was all cloudy, so again, I missed it. I think I better try again tonight, as I would not mind seeing that rare and fleeting magical moment!

Hi GM, Of course we didn't get the meteor shower down this way and even if we did get one, it's too flamin' cold to go outside at night. I do agree with you about the magic though. I always feel a sense of childlike wonder and joy when I see a shooting star flash across the sky.

Veteran of numerous "midnight picnics," here, whether from my front yard or a park, or just somewhere darker than a city allows. So many wonderful memories! Now, these must sustain me, stuck inside as I am. MP

I have seen that too and yes it's magical, it's like blessings from heaven ;-).. I still wonder how our cosmic works and such a show is really amazing. I hope it is not causing some hidden hitch like some fortune teller says. Nevertheless, we bought enjoyed watching it and give some inner peace inside of me that makes me admire more of our Almighty GOD creation.

Hello my friend GreenMoo Ji, Well, I think it was an special occasion for shooting STARS to be watched. But I missed it due to my un-co-operative sleep. I am happy that you all enjoyed. May God bless You and have a great time

How lucky you are to see the amazing meteor showers. I have never see that before, In my city it is always cloudy and not clean in the sky. I hope I can take my son to watch it in the prairie, he is suppose to be very happy to see the shooting stars close to the earth with a trail behind them. and I'll also let hime make wishes before the shooting stars vanish.

The last time i saw shooting stars was when i was in college. I was 18 years old then and there was a concert in the University campus. After the concert, my friends and i started to head down the beach owned by the university and got drunk there. While lying on the sand, just before dawn, i saw shooting stars. They appeared one after another and i made too many wishes. None of them came true though. But yes, that experience was magical for me. It was something that i would love to experience again.

You`re right, they are very rare and magnificent indeed. I have never ever seen a shooting star. City lights destroy my ability to see stars at night, let alone a falling star. I hope one day to see one, just so I can say I have experienced it.

I wanted to, but Saturday night it was cloudy all night and on Sunday I was so tired I didn't even think about them. When the kids were little, we went out to a place on the prairie, away from city lights, and watched a meteor shower. Everyone was fascinated. I'd like to do that again sometime, but I'd probably have to go by myself!

Not this year. As a child we would sleep outside at my grandparents' home. I would see them then. One year my hubby and I tried to see them here, by setting our alarm, but it was too light from the street lights etc. I love laying outside and looking up into the stars, it is amazing.

I actually had no idea about the meteor shower. And I have never seen a shooting star. We don't see much in the sky here in the city. We hardly see the stars as it is. Oh well. I am sure it would have been a sight to see.

Every time they broadcast that the sky is going to be spectacular tonight if it's clear I just know I might as well go to bed and see it on the news in the morning. It's always cloudy and I never ever see anything worth writing home about, and as I am usually home, I wouldn't bother writing anyway. What would be the point? Glad YOU saw something, even if you had to get up in the middle of the night! Did you make a wish?
