Doctors know that most people get sick after experiencing very emotional situations (divorce, break-ups, death of a love one, etc.). But do you know that certain "habitual?" emotions can also lead you to acquire illnesses? The following are few examples of emotions associated with illnesses, what do you think yours will be? GUILT - Feeling guilty affects your immune system and may eventually lead to colds, cough, flu, depression, and skin diseases. FEAR & WORRY - Associated with headaches, stomach aches, obesity, and undernourishment. ANGER - Illnesses associated with anger are heart attack, high blood pressure, heart disease, digestive tract disorder, and headaches. LONELINESS - Can lead to obesity, dementia, depression, heart disease, stroke. There are other examples but bottomline, negative emotions can result to health problems so it's always important to check up on your emotions once in a while. Please feel free to share your thoughts about this.

I third this! LAUGHTER really is one of the best medicines. Although let me add, that good company also a great medicine. You can go to a stand up comedy show, slapsticks etc and you can temporarily forget your worries, be happy. But being with great company makes the experience much more fun, a feel good experience you can look back on and make you feel happy inside. It's the fact that you shared a moment of happiness that can make you feel better

Yes, it will somewhat lighten your feelings when watching funny movies or even comedy bars. have you noticed watching tragic movies or tv series, you will also experience your chest being heavy too and observe your heartbeat become fast too.

This was always on my mind in some ways but I hadn't know the exact ways it effects us. I would say that this is true because of our "mind over matter" and that our bodies react to the negative situations of our minds. It is a good thing to live a stress free and other negative emotion free life but it is not easy as we all know.

Hi echoforever (10 star nice), Yes it's really not easy to live a stress free life especially nowadays that people seem to be always in a hurry and always busy with something.

We will have to take the incentive to make our lives less stressful where ever we can! And that includes: Being happy, silly and fun. Don't take life too seriously, you can't get out alive

Negative emotions can really affect you physically. These emotions are unavoidable as we are humans. The most important thing is how you deal with it. Whenever I have these emotions I try to look at the brighter side of life as it makes me feel better. The most powerful tool to conquer these emotions is prayer.

Amen to that :) All can be achieve thru prayers, we just have to keep the faith and learn to accept things with open mind and heart. Thanks for sharing. :)

Whenever I feel lonely I indulge myself with food. I eat whatever I want and how much because I feel that by eating my loneliness is alleviated. A couple of years ago I was a little bigger than what should my BMI be. This happened because I had problems and I resorted to eating. Fortunately now though I have problems I control how much I eat and I don't over indulge myself anymore.

I truly believe that those negative emotions can really give havoc on our health. Not only does it make you have those types of illnesses that you mentioned, but they also give us a haggard looking face. It also adds wrinkles.

That's true. The quotation laughter is the best medicine I think is very true. You will never get anywhere with sadness. Still some people can turn some negative emotions into motivation.

You're right some people can harness negative energies (i.e. anger, frustration, etc.) to fuel themselves in pursuing what they want to do in life, like a challenge. Thanks for your response :) and welcome to MyLot.

I agree with you. I've read an article recently about a guy who literally killed his girlfriend because of jealousy. Believe it or not, 12 stabs were found in the woman's body. I was really shocked upon reading this article. I didn't know that certain people can do this stuff. Undoubtedly, too much love can really kill you. Maybe, one way to prevent this from happening is to stay away from people or things which give you stress.

Crime of passion? I've read a lot of articles about it and sometimes seen it also on television news. Some people can't really handle their emotions. Hey welcome to Mylot.

I Agree to this, if you are holding to your problem and spend your days thinking about it, It will bring no good to you and to your health. I know someone lost her baby because of too much problem and stress.

I believe that there are adverse effects on any habitual especially if it's a negative emotions or behavior. It is scietifically-proven that's why we should introspect and assess ourselves once in a while.

Yes that's true and as I've said it once before - we have that natural defensive instinct to deny our true feelings. BTW, welcome to Mylot!

I think emotions are natural feeling of a person. But too much emotions can led you to an illnesses. I think all excess (too much)can harm you (health,as a person and others)

14 Sep 12
Yes it's natural and sometimes good for the person to once is while let his/her feelings out (ex. anger) just don't it linger on and become a habit. Thanks for sharing and welcome to MyLot!

I know this but sometimes I really can't help but feel sad and guilty when things go wrong for my kids at school. I'd always blame myself for not being there when I think me being with them could have prevented bad things from happening. When I see their test papers or quizzes with low scores, I can't help but nag at them. Then I'd feel bad about it when I see them crying or locking up alone inside their room. I don't know why it's inherent for me to first nag at them then feel sorry afterwards. At the back of my mind, there's this voice telling me, things would've been better if I had done my part in the first place to spend time teaching them on their lessons. Or that I shouldn't be expecting much from them knowing that I myself, couldn't give much support to them too since I always lack the time. I can't always take my rest days on weekends since my office mates have families too and we all distribute weekend rest days equally amongst us. Therefore, on my weekday rest day, I have much time here at home while they're at school. Much as I would like to spend time with them the whole day, I can't actually do so since they have classes until five and will be home by six tonight. =( Oh, sometimes I feel really sad I wish I couldnjust quit my job and be the plain housewife who lok after the kids 24/7. But I can't yet so I'll just have to wait first. Good thing MyLot is here so I can always speak out my sentiments...

Hi thersdae_me, i really enjoyed reading your response. At least you are aware of your emotions coz there are some people like this friend of mine who's always seem angry and bitter all the time and yet when I privately asked her about it, she denied it even though most of our friends also see her that way. I don't know if being angry without being aware of it has the same effect on one's health? I think people with heart problems are like this?

Three emotions that will kill you - ANGER, FEAR, and WORRY.
• Philippines
19 Aug 12
Among the three - I'm having problems with "worry", I guess it's natural for a mother like me though I know I need to work on that and try relaxing once in a while away from all the work that's giving me lots to worry about.
