65th year of Independence but are we really free?
Draw a Cartoon and you are behind bars.
70 percent of the Population is below poverty level,
Dowry system, Child Labor, Dowry Death are commonly practiced in most part of the country
On papers we are celebrating our 65th Independence Day but the country still is far from being an free and Independent

'Independence' in this context doesn't refer at all to PERSONAL freedom. It means that the government and economy of a country is autonomous.
Many countries celebrate their independence but how many are really better off under autonomous rule?
There are many things, especially, of course, the level of poverty and the incidence of child labour, which must be generally deplored. There are other things, such as the caste system and other elements of social custom, which many people regard as oppressive and unnatural. Had India remained under British rule, it is possible that these things might now be part of history but India would not be 'independent'!

I am sorry that you still feel so surpressed in your country that is supposed to have freedom. Maybe one day it will come down to that actual freedom but it can take time I suppose....

Hi,
Truly I am appalled by what is happening in West Bengal now! Not only the cartoon controversy but other crimes against women that are being committed, are being labelled as "made up" incidents by our honorable CM! This is outrageous and I feel worried for the safety of women here including myself. All the problems that you have mentioned are grave ones which are simply not being eradicated from the system despite the fact that we are an independent nation. I hope in the future, the government takes some stern and serious action so as to really make us feel pride in being independent and not just by name while being subjugated to all the evils of subordination. Great post friend!

I guess in this world nobody is actually literally free. As we are bound by rules and law plus we are exposed to a lot of injustice. But despite that, one should still be thankful to be able to celebrate an independence day unlike some more oppressed country ruled by other countries and harmed by war.

I don't think that we are independent, since most people in authority level abused their power to have personal gain. If the government system will be eradicated the wrong practices, then we are free from being abused.

Hi niitesh, That's what even I was thinking, whether we are free ? You have mini dictators everywhere in our country and some parties only too happy to hand over power to foreigners , the very idea why we celebrate independence.Unless all the people analyse and stand united freedom is not possible in the real sense... all the best n enjoy your day

Aren't you satisfied with the Military that you have now? how about having successfully invested in Space Programs that made your country sent probe and soon man on the moon. if you're not free, you won't be able to grow this much, proverty is just a huge problem in every country. you should try to look on the brighter side of things.
