Gujarat’s Gir sanctuary in India is the only protected habitat of the Asiatic lion, also known as the ‘Panthera leo persica’, which, after having been saved from extinction, are now more than 400 in number in India. Due to lack of enough space in Gir sanctuary, the lives of those lions are at stake. So in the interest of their lives, some of them have to be shifted to the lion reserve in Kuno wild life sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, as has been suggested by experts in the field of wild life. But unfortunately, Gujarat officials are reluctant to this proposal. The reasons may be that Gujarat wants to hold on its uniqueness as the only state that is home to the Asiatic lion or the state may lose a major chunk of its tourists if the lions are shifted. Already, the Asiatic lions’ gene pool is dangerously shallow as all the lions have descended from as few as 15 lions and there are not many chances of diversity among them. They are prone to death from a single epidemic. They may also be the victims of a natural disaster at any moment. So shifting some of the lions to Kuno wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh would be a positive step as far as preservation of wild life is concerned. The lions would be better accommodated there and the change of habitat may improve the chances of their survival. The Gujarat government must act in the interest of the lions only and not for any other reason. Isn’t it desired from the Gujarat government? What’s your opinion in the matter?

yes I totally agree on this matter that wild life must be preserved.human interference in nature is destroying this planet.because of us animals are suffering.we have destroyed their habitat and its our responsibility to let them live.and for this not only government but common people will have to come together.because mutually we can make the world a better place to live for humans as well as for animals.

Man is solely responsible for dis-balancing the ecosystem of the planet. With rise in population, there is destruction of forests. As a result, animals are not getting enough space for their survival. The result is some are already in extinct, and some are on the verge of extinct. So if man has to survive, there should be efforts to preserve wildlife. Unless wildlife is preserved, man's own survival would be at stake. Some people realize this but a lot is yet to realize it. And the most disheartening matter is that most of the governments all over the world are not very serious about this grave problem. Their activities never seem to be in accordance with their words or promises. So they should be made to realize it and it is the common people who can only make them realize it by their own awareness and constant hammering over the issue.

I agree, that the animal (whatever) has the right to decent living. If men feel entitled to live well, why not animals?

But it seems from our activities that man does not believe so. The wild-life lovers are trying their best to make people aware of the necessity of preservation of wildlife, otherwise, the ecosystem would be dis-balanced and man himself would not be able to survive. But unfortunately, the government itself often fails to pay heed to their advice until and unless compelled to do so. Whatever action the government takes is solely on paper and not in real action. It is a great pity.

Nowadays, there a lot of government sectors that combat against illegal killings of wild life. If they don't do this, the wild life will not be preserved and the next generation will not see the wild life.
