So once again I find myself making a post on Mylot, based on something crazy one of my room mates have came up with/done/heard. This time it's D my oldest roommate, who will be turning sixty next year. She heard somewhere on the radio, that sweet potatoes are one of the healthiest and cheapest food a person can get. We were at the grocery store just to pick up soda, tea, orange juice and some sausage to use with dinner, and she brings this up. I don't like sweet potatoes anytime except for thanksgiving and that's with marshmallows. Has anyone else heard this? What do you think of this new thing with sweet potatoes, Mylotters?

I've seen some fast food chains now offer sweet potato fries as a way to eat healthier. I haven't tried them yet but I've heard they are very good. Like you, I normally only eat sweet potatoes at holidays covered in a glaze or marshmallows, but I might try to switch a baked sweet potato for a regular baked potato for a meal to spice things up.

Yes, sweet potato is very healthy. If you want to detoxify your body, sweet potato will help you with it. This is because when you eat it, you will really release gases from your body. Aside from that it has high fiber and a good alternative to rice. We eat sweet potato as snack here or other people eat them as replacement of rice.

I have heard of sweet potatoes being healthy for you to eat. I like to buy it sometimes to eat. I like the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes. They are pretty easy to cook and you don't really need to add other stuff in it to eat. But I say that I have never tried to eat sweet potatoes with some marshmallows. I think I will try to some marshmallows with sweet potatoes the next time I cook with it.

We eat sweet potatoes all the time. It's considered as a cheap healthy snack on here. We used to have them in our backyards and i love digging the soil to find large sweet potatoes. It was such an achievement for me.
It's a common food in here and everybody knows it's healthy.

I love sweet potato whether it is just boiled, or coated with brown sugar. It is common here in my country and are usually sold outside schools and streets. I am not just familiar with the price and its health benefits but I know that they are rich in fiber.

Yes I have heard htis before - from Dr. Oz!
Here is what he has to say about them "The women of Okinawa, Japan (who also happen to be the world's longest living ladies) enjoy a purple sweet potato they call Imo every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Rich in beta-carotene and boasting 150% more antioxidants than blueberries, this easy-to-make treat can be simply incorporated into an American diet. And, if you can't find Imo specifically, our orange sweet potatoes pack a similarly healthful wallop." http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/5-superfoods-eat-now
To gt rid of upper arm fat he actually has people drink parsley tea 5 times a week and eta 3 sweet potatoes a day for a week. Helps kick start the body to start burning fat in that area.
I actually LOVE sweet potatoes. I will buy them over regular white potatoes any day.

Sweet potatoes can be prepared several different ways. They can be used just like regular potatoes in stews and soups. I like baked sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on it. I have also cut them up and used them with regular potatoes in a dish with kielbasa sausage. They are very nutritious.

I ythink sweet potatoes can be cooked in any stew instead of potatoes. The same goes for yuca. All of them are healthy. What is not so healthy and maybe gives you problems with your cholesterol levels is the sausage. In my country potatoes are cheaper than sweet potatoes though.

I've also read that sweet potatoes are good rice alternatives especially if you're watching sugar intake.
Personally, I like sweet potatoes. Fried, baked, boiled and even with coconut milk. But that's me being used to it. It's one of our country's favorite snacks.

I read from a health magazine that sweet potatoes are often use by people who are on diet or want to maintain their figures. There was this one actress here in our country who eat only sweet potato and she is really beautiful even in her late 40's. My only daughter has been eating that also and I can say she's in abetter shape now.

Sweet potato used to be cheap here but it gained in popularity and now it's become expensive. If I want to buy a package of small ones it comes down in price but as there's just me here, the veggies get old before I can use them all.
Here in Australia, we only use them as vegetables, not desserts. It's the same with pumpkin. I was surprised to learn that pumpkin pie was a dessert and after making one, I've discovered that it's way too sweet for me.

I don't think I've heard anything about sweet potatoes lately. Though I have heard about new and amazing health benefits of certain foods. It's just a daily thing, they are always "researching" the health benefits of things and feeding people crap.
No, I mean I do believe that fruits and veggies are good for us, of course they are. Anything with as little additives as possible is good for us, we don't really need news and tablets to tell us that.

I'm not real familiar with the health benefits of sweet potatoes but as with all vegetables I'm sure it has its share. It is a starch though like a regular potato so I don't think it's the greatest of vegetables but I am a really big fan of it's flavor. I know that sweet potatoes are also good for women because my ex-girlfriend would always get excited when I made her something with sweet potatoes and she said that they were good for women.
One of my favorite recipes to make with sweet potatoes is sweet potato and golden beet curry with broccoli, carrots, and any other different vegetables or meat that you may want to add.

I have always heard that sweet potatoes are good for us and that suits me just fine since I love sweet potato. I prefer mine baked with a bit of cinnamon and ginger sprinkled upon them. I also use them in soups and stews and pot roast.

I don't like sweet potatoes but everyone I know does. They are high in fiber, vitamin B6, potassium, vitamin A, manganese and vitamin C & E. One sweet potato has the full recommended daily allowance of vitamin A. I have a friend who makes sweet potato pie. It's a big holiday food, but I just never did like them. And yes, they are pretty cheap. They're really good for you. A very healthy food to eat! So your roommate is correct.

It sound silly but I don't like sweet potatoes when they are too sweet. If they have marshmallow then I won't eat it. And I don't like some people put brown sugar.
I would just rather eat it like a regular potato with salt and pepper and butter.
