Problem in the accommodation

I read that a girlfriend and a boyfriend were staying in a private room in Prague in the Czech Republic. The bedroom had a fish tank with one big fish and ten or eleven small fish. The girl came out of the bathroom and was getting dressed when the big fish ate all the small fish. The Czech man was very cross and said that the couple had stolen this fish. What do you think? Have you ever had a problem in some kind of accommodation? If so what was it and did you manage to solve the problem?

I know people take stuff from hotels as "souvenirs",but FISH? They'd not be the easiest things to smuggle out of some place,I'd think..The predatory big fish would be a more likely explanation, but you'd think a tropical fish keeper would be aware of what fish could be safely kept together..was there anything in the original story indicating what species the fish were so as to ascertain the possibility of this big fish making lunch out of the smaller ones?

And another thing..Having a fish tank in my room as a tourist in another country would be unusual enough that I'd probably be taking photos of it and the inhabitants..wouldn't they have the same curiosity and interest in this unusual accommodation to take any photos, either before or after the incident? If they own cellphones they're quite likely to have a camera function, and as tourists as wellthey might well have had a hobby camera along too...

hi maximax, really it is new thing to hear and,but the real thing know the couple in the room, the couple, should report the hotel or police to check the big fish that it was eater those small fishes, here the case is easy for that why those two friends has to suffer,in Singapore, the hotel people are keeping several drinks in fridge,if we consume them ,we have to pay the money for the drinks, some people does not know it and they drink ,that they are free, just like that, have a nice day.

This is a difficult story to understand. If there are two persons in the room. In hotel nobody allows to enter in other's room. So there is no doubt about the third person. The big fish may be sure the cause.

We have to check the room for the flaws (already in the room) and the conditions of other things(furnitures, paints etc.) prior to accommodation with the person(who assist us in giving room). I don't have this kind of experience...

I'll bet he put the small fish in just before they got there and he did it to everyone!

Was there anything about the owner demanding compensation for the loss of these fish? I've only ever had goldfish,so wouldn't be familiar with the idea of someone feeding a bigger tropical fish in a tank with small ones,or the idea of a scam involving the situation..

I have known 2 cases where any fish they put in with their large fish was soon dinner - but at least in these cases they KNEW it was happening.

I've never come across such a problem and I hope I wouldn't need to. I think if the owner would think that they have stolen the fish, then I would allow the guy to check our bags and stuff. Further, I would simply say that I don't know what he's talking about because I didn't count the number of fish and where's his proof that we stole it? Whew! I think this problem is really uncomfortable and I would have stayed at a proper hotel instead of a private place. Let it be a lesson learned. What did they do? Have a great Mylot experience ahead!

Well, long time back, when I used to work for my first company, we were provided money by our company only enough for a medium budget hotel. The accomodation was average. However, once when I was staying with one of my colleagues in one hotel, we had not running water for hours. The owner-manager was also not helpful, and was in a way mocking us. That moment I felt that If I had been a billionaire I would have just sacked that manager, and bought his hotel. I felt very angry then. Yet, I think such things do happen in life. What do you say?

Well, that is a kind of unfortunate situation to be in! How do you prove that the fish ate them and that you did not steal them? This reminds me of when I stayed in London. We were renting a room in a shared house for the week, but it all went wrong and the landlord kicked us out! I replied with the whole lengthy story here, but then realised that it was so long that my story deserved to be made into a discussion of it's own! Thanks for the inspiration. I had an assignment to search for hotels in Delhi that would ideally suit our executives. I had to spend a week or so there. I stayed in a 3 star hotel. The room was nice and well furnished. As I was about to retire I did not realise that there was a connecting door from where a staff member came into my room. I almost screamed.I reported this to the hotel management. The room where I stayed was a family room apparently and the other room that was connected was used when a family stayed there. The staff member was not aware that I had occupied the room. Apologies poured in from all quarters but suffice it to say that it knocked the daylights out of me or shall I say nightlights!

If they looked closely at the big fish there would be enough indications that the large fish had eaten up the small fish as its stomach would be bloating!!!

I think it sounds strange that the fish ate all the fishes at once. If it was from a long time ago then why didn't it ate the small fishes earlier? Also it will be hard to eat all the 10 fishes at once. The facts make the situation difficult for the couple. On the other hand if they had to steel the fish then they might have stolen the bigger one for having a bigger meal. Smaller ones will be of no use to them. Okay so what happened after that?

Wow, I can't believe that the man would jump straight to the conclusion of the couple stealing the fish. How would you even go about stealing fish? Also, how could he even prove they stole the fish? If the Czech man got so upset about the fish and accused people of stealing, then he shouldn't put fish tanks in the rooms because it ends up being a liability for him. I can't remember ever having a major problem in a place I stayed, if anything, it was just a minor little problem that was easily fixed. Lol I've never been accused of stealing fish or anything else from a hotel.
