It hasn't grown on me

I decided over the weekend that I was going to cut my hair for the first time in almost two years. You see, I'd been growing it out so that I could donate it to Locks of Love.
Well, the woman pulled my hair into a ponytail and cut just above the rubber band. I had requested that they then stack the layers in the back. Well, instead of stacking the layers, the cut it in such a way that my hair curls under, and it ended up a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be as well. I thought they had to cut off only ten inches, but she chopped off fifteen inches without showing me what she was doing.
I though, oh well, it will grow on me after having it like that for a couple days, but it still hasn't it wasn't exactly cut evenly and with the length that she left my hair, she really should have undershaved it and didn't and of course I can't do it myself.
So, have you ever had a haircut that you really couldn't stand? I really couldn't do much to complain because the haircut was a charity donation so I didn't have to pay for it. If you've had a terrible haircut, what did you do about it? The only thing that I've been able to do to make me at least like it a little bit was that I dyed it right afterward and I love my new auburn color.

Free haircut to donate hair, is a cool idea. I wish there was something like that around here, however, the trade off could be -- a bad haircut.
I also had my shortest haircut for over 20 years, last month. I wanted a new look, because I always had a long hair either same length or layered. I thought, I didn't have to worry if the short cut won't suit me, because Im just staying at home, anyway. I wanted it to be layered, still, so that it's stylish, but it wasn't as I expected and described. So, it looks just like a simple plain short hair.
I can' wait for my hair to grow long again, and I'm never going to get it cut this short ever again.

I've actually gone from long hair to short hair and back again several times in my life. However, this was the first time that I've made a change that is as extreme as what I've done here.
I really want to go and get the layers fixed the way that I wanted them to be, but I'm afraid that they would want to take a little bit more of the length off and that is something that I don't want to have done at all.

It really is true that there are no two people that do their layers the same way. However, when I say stacked layers, that is a term that stylists should be familiar with.

I've noticed that different hairstylists can do layers differently. I've had this specific layer cut that I want, but have not gotten the same style since my first layers.

First allow me to congratulate you for that noble heart of yours that did that for charity and at least you got a different look. You may not like it at the moment but give it time and you will see the beauty in it. There was a time I was working in a job that did not give free time and I ended up cutting my hair completely and then the season changed and it would rain so much and my head would get cold and that is when i knew the importance of hair.

You know what is really funny, last year when my husband was diagnosed with cancer, I suggested that we all shave our heads to show our support of him. He didn't want us to do it.
In retrospect, it would have been pretty funny because he didn't lose all of his hair while he was going through chemo.

I had a bad cut once or twice. The last time I was wanting something new and the stylist suggested that I leave my bangs longer instead of cutting them. I did this and it was a mistake. It actually made me look older. I will never make that mistake again. Recently I colored my hair at home and I love using the Clairol gray solution kit. Well I went to 3 stores and they did not have the kit for blonde hair. I finally decided I would get the light brown kit. Big MISTAKE! M hair is now a dark reddish color and I do not like it. Won't do that again!

I have very little gray in my hair, so I didn't have to worry terribly about covering that up. You see, I have a little bit of red in my hair naturally and I just wanted to boost that so I got a kid for a medium auburn and though the color is only a subtle change, I really like the way that the light reflects off of it.

Oh, it's so good of you to donate your hair. But having a bad haircut, that's definitely bad. Having a terrible haircut will cause me so much disappointment. At least, you dyed your hair, new look. We can our grow hair back so that take it seriously. I hope you look better on your new haircut and hair color. Happy myLotting.

I did get a lot of compliments on my new hairdo today, so that did make me feel a little bit better about it. However, I just really want it to look the way that I expected it to.
You can bet that the next time I'm going to have my best friend do it. She isn't trained, but she gave Kathryn her last new hair cut and it looks great, I know that she would do a good job for me as well.

I need a haircut, but my hair never grows long enough to donate. I remember when I was younger my mother had made me get a haircut and my hair was short. This was when I was in the sixth grade and I hated it. Now I wear it long and hate it especially in the summer (it gets into the triple digits here in las vegas). I am trying to save money by not cutting it for a while, but I know I will have to eventaully. I am sorry that the stylist cut off 15 inches (I know that 10 is the minimim) and that it is too short. I wish i knew of ways to get hair to grow faster. I am not sure if I could ever donate because my hair is starting to get gray. I am glad you like your new hair color.

I will admit that there was a little bit of gray in my hair as well and that was not something that I was proud of, I'm still young by my standards and I shouldn't have gray in my hair.
Of course, you can't see any of it now because it is covered up.

hi dear dorannmwin, I let my hair grow as well. My hairdresser back in my old hometown has done a really great job so my messy hair grew a little better at last.
Now in my new hometown where I moved when I got married, I had to look for a new hairdresser. There were two ones in walking distance so I tried them out and was not a happy camper after getting the haircut.
Infact something similar to your story happened at the second place. I asked that only the tips be trimmed but this hairdresser, who also was the shop owner, did what she wanted and that was sure not what I as customer had asked her to.
I just had to wait till it grew out again. Sigh.
Meanwhile my husband had found a good hairdresser and recommended it to me so thats where I went then. They are excellent in cutting the spliss out of the hair and leaving the length as is. I could not ask for any better than what they do. Just was there again Monday as I have the week off and so more time on my hands.

I am hoping that I after I give this mess a chance to grow out a little bit that I am able to find a hairdresser that will be able to do what I want with my hair. In the mean time, it is so short that I'm actually having to get either my mother or my husband to shave my hairline because the length of my hair is shorter than my natural hairline.

It is quite a mess, but then again, at least there isn't enough there now for my little niece to pull.

I'm glad that you were able to do something with the color that you like atleast, it's too bad the cut wasn't what you expected. I have had haircuts that I wasn't satisfied with, I'm very picky when it comes to my bangs that I've started to tell hair dressers not to touch them because I'm never satisfied. I hope your new cut grows on you with time, either way good on you for donating to Locks of Love.

For me, being a person that gives to charity is something that is really important. Though I am not able to financially give the way that I would like to, I'm always willing to donate goods and service when I can.

I have one about a year ago. A new salon opened and I was on my way home and decided to stop and not wait to go to my normal place.....well it took 3 haircuts by my normal gal to get it so I could do anything with it. She showed me how uneven it was....I will never go back to that place again.

That is pretty much how I am feeling about the place that I went this last time. I understand that I didn't have to pay them for this last haircut, but even for free it wasn't worth it, so I don't see why I would be willing to pay them to butcher my hair.

That is pretty much what I've decided that I am going to do. I thought about going and getting it fixed, but I really don't want to do that for fear that my hair might get further butchered.

There were a few people at work who donated hair and 1 lady actually shaved her whole head for some charity, she looked really cute and her hair grew back in a totally different way and now she keeps it short.
My hair is very hard to grow and if I would cut it it would never grow back.
I had yje same haircut for almost 20 years and my hair never got any longer than it is even though I trim the ends every so often.
I'm sure your hair will grow back nicely and it's very cool of you to have donated it.

Donating my hair is something that I've wanted to do for some time because I've seen my sister do it in the past and it was something that was inspiring to me. Then there is the fact that last year my husband was diagnosed with cancer and since I didn't shave my head to show my support for him, I decided to instead donate my hair to charity on his behalf.

I am hoping that it will be something that will grow on me over time. However, I also know that it is only hair and it really won't be that long before it has grown out enough that I am able to do something different with it.

A month and half ago, I had my hair cut. It was cut a bit shorter than I wanted but it didn't bother me too much because it would grow back. Probably won't get it cut again until I get annoyed with it which is around once per year.

You sound a lot like me in terms of the way that we decide to get our hair cut. In the last ten years of my life I've gone from short to long to short to long time and time again. Though I'd trimmed my hair over the last two years, this was the first major haircut that I've had in two years.

As far as I can remember, I've only had to deal with it once. I once went to a hair salon thinking that they can do wonders with my hair. That's when I used to grow my hair long. I can't exactly remember what they did to my hair, but I remember it being so terrible that I went straight to a barber shop afterwards to have my hair cut even shorter.
Now, I just have it cut really really short regularly.

I can understand why you would want to keep your hair cut short regularly. I thought that I would like to have a change in my life, but I guess I really learned that it wasn't the change that I was looking for.

Oh my goodness. Well for me it wasn't the how short my hair was cut but my coloring I had done. I told this women I wanted red in hair because I do have natural red high lights but at one time I wanted to add a bit more to show it off more and instead of red she did blond. I hated it for weeks before I even started liking it. Other people liked it on me so it grew on me over a good couple of weeks.
I've donated this year to locks of love and they are only suppose to do 10 inches unless you tell them to do more. A guy did mine and I told him I wanted still long enough to put up in a pony. He did a really good job love it still do and I'm amazed that it's not to long yet.

My hair grows pretty fast but my daughters grows so slow. Its only grown a few inches in the last 3 years. I'm sorry you dont like your haircut that is really dissapointing especially if it grows slowly. The requirement for locks of love is only 10 inches I dont know why she took off the extra 5 inches without asking you. Maybe she thought you wanted your hair cut shorter then that. You can straighten the ends with a flat iron where it curls only so it will keep the length.

I think that the woman might have been in a hurry or something and it really disappointed me. I am pretty lucky though because my hair does seem to grow pretty fast. I would imagine that I will be happy with it in a couple of weeks.

That was nice of you to donate your hair. However, if you are not happy with the hair style you are left with I'd either wait a bit so it grows to get is recut or if you don't mind it shorter get it re-cut somewhere else. I haven't had short hair in about 15years and I wouldn't know how to cut it to save my soul with a current style. I used to have the good ol' wedge/bob shaved underneath since I have thick wavy hair otherwise it wouldn't lay flat. Honestly short hair was too much workfor me to keep it laying right.

My hair is pretty straight, so it will lay right pretty much with whatever length hair that I have.
I thought about going somewhere else and having it fixed, but I think that they would have to take more length off of it, so I am just going to wait a couple months and get it fixed then.

I've donated a couple times to Locks of Love! In recent years though I haven't grown my hair long enough to do it again though . . . with two little kids it's hard to maintain long hair (especially when the little one still likes to pull on it!). Sorry the new "do" hasn't grown on you . . . perhaps it might grow on you after it grows out a little. My worst cut was in high school. I wanted a short cut because that was the in thing . . . but the guy seriously nearly shaved the sides of my head!!! I had that sort of a punk Duran Duran hair thing going on with the longer bangs and longer back . . . in a way it was cool - but it was totally not "me". I remember seeing some of my pics when I had my head sideways - I looked like I had bald spots - argh! Nothing I could with it at all - except to wait for it to grow out. At the time, I didn't pay for it, but my parents did - and it was at a department store - so it was real disappointing. I can't remember what my parents thought of it - ha ha!! At least you got a nice color for your hair out of it!!
