So my cute little dog was suffering from a case of extremely bad breath, advice from his vet tells us that giving him a spoonful of plain yogurt every once in awhile is supposed to help this and so far it has. Have you ever heard of this remedy for a dogs bad breath or maybe a different solution? Thanks for commenting.

I think the vet doctor suggested the best remedy for the halitosis of a dog. Dogs drool by nature, they can't control this. Yogurt can assist them to lessen the drooling and be swallowed.

My little chihuahua has bad breath but the vets have told me she's got plaque build up on her back teeth. Some tell me she needs to have them cleaned by them, costing about $3,000 but one tells me I can still brush her teeth. They told me something interesting, you only need to brush the outside of their teeth - meaning you don't have to pry their mouth open to get on the other side (inner side) of their teeth. In any case, it's a struggle with mine. She used to eat the left over yogurt I used to have, but I don't remember her breath smelling any better? Well my yogurt probably had fruit in it?? My dog is ten years old so she may have a different problem all together. Is yours young?

Yes the vet made it very clear that the yogurt has to be plain or it will have no affect at all. Our dog is six years old, vet says his mouth is very healthy and that his breath doesn't compare to some cases that he sees...haha.

I've never heard of using yogurt for their breath, although I have heard of giving dogs yogurt before. I'm not sure, but I think it helps with their stomach or something like that (sorry, I'm too lazy to look it up ATM). Anyway, I myself use Greenies for my pup. They're a little pricey, but they work great...especially for someone like me that doesn't have the time or the energy. Best of all, my dog loves them. She looks forward to them everyday! Happy mylotting!

I'm glad your vet suggested yogurt rather than immediately medicating your dog. It may be a yeast related breath problem. One of our dogs has chronic yeast ear infections and they smell FUNKY. blech. We began giving her acidophilus pills (the active culture in yogurt, but more concentrated) and her ears have improved a lot. Keep in touch with your vet, and good idea, again!

Yes I really trust our vet, he seems to truly care more about our dog than he does about putting more money in his pocket. I really respect him.

These are some of the thing I like about here , I learn something new every day . I didn't know yogurt could help dog bad breath . I am not a dog lover , we had one dog and she fell in love with my cousin male dog and she never come back home and my cousin decide to take her so I let her . I usually thought you could just brush their teeth to help with bad breath .

Our dog's vet advised us to give her plain yogurt when she seems to have stomach aches. She usually gets very excited then and she wants to eat grass. She could eat grass for hours if we let her. The vet told us to give her yogurt instead and it seems it works. She doesn't have bad breath, so I can't say if it helps in dog halitosis. Thank you for sharing the tip.

My dog has an bad breath too, I think he started to have bad breathe when he had the bad teeth in the back. I don't think the chewing bones help any, we better brush his teeth.

That's pretty neat and it's something I've never heard of before. I have a little mini dachshund and her breath is terrible. It's fine when she gets her teeth cleaned but that doesn't happen very often. I might give the yogurt trick a try and see if it helps. Her breath is so stinky and we can even smell it when she yawns and is sitting in our lap. It's kind of gross lol
