I have curtains over my blinds in the living room and bedroom for about 4 years now.
They really need to be washed but it's a real pain to take them down and then wash them , dry them and hang them back up.
I think I might just buy new ones that way I don't have the hassle.
I do the same with my shower curtains and bathroom rugs, once they get yucky I just buy a new one....no I'm not rich but they really cheap if you buy the a Ross or Walmart.
Do you wash or buy new ones when the time comes?

I wash them but twice a year, it is truly a hassle. However, the curtains
here are very costly so whether we like it or not, we have to wash it in June
and December before Christmas. However, if the curtain was quite run down, we have no choice but to buy a cheaper curtain cloth and tailor made them to the required
measurement. The workmanship for tailor is expenseive too. Your idea of disposable
cheap curtain is great, I should search around and do that

Actually I'm the tight wad I always take them down and wash them and hang them to dry outside except for the shower curtain which I just rehang in the shower to dry. I am always washing them every few months. We do not have blinds though. We live up a holler and there's a lot of dust so things have to be washed pretty often.

I usually have several sets of curtains so when I get tired of one set I have the others. I also have 2 shower curtains both match my bathroom theme. I'm not saying its bad to toss out and buy new heck I wish I could but with my budget it's not in the cards for me although it would be great gifts for others to buy. I am sick of the same old same old. I had to save up a few months just to get a toaster oven, lol

I have a shower door in my bathroom and I just hang the curtain in front of the door cause the door is ugly.
It's more of a decoration cause it doesn't really get wet but it does get dusty and there's a lot of dust in Vegas

Missy, i still washes my curtains. My hubby don't allow me to waste money buying curtains and throw away those old curtains. Only when the curtains are really worn out and old, then i would buy new ones to replace them. In fact, my home curtains are not really that dirty. I washed them 3 - 4 times per year, or whenever the curtains gets very dirty. I always use the washing machine to wash my curtains, so it is not really a very tiring work. Next week, i plan to wash my living room curtains since we are going to have another family gathering soon.

I couldn't believe it but when I came home yesterday my honey had washed the curtains, I've been wanting to get new ones cause my mom is visiting in 2 weeks so I'm glad he did that for me.
Now all he needs to do is shampoo the carpet

I am actually one of those people that will wash my curtains. The reason that I wash the curtains that I have is because of the fact that I really like the colors and design of the curtains that I have and the style has been discontinued, so that means that I would not be able to make an even replacement of them.
If this wasn't the fact, then I would probably replace the curtains that I have every year or two.

I like changing things around and having new colors or designs, if I have a curtain or rug that I really really like than I keep it but otherwise I toss them out.
You can get really cute sets of bathroom rugs an d curtains for under $10 at Ross

For the same reason, that's why i always prefer to wash and re-use my curtains until they are faded colors. Sounds you can get much cheaper price when buying bathroom rugs and curtains in your area. Here, i have to pay much higher price, to get the same items.

Well my friend, nowadays we are after practicality and cost saving measures. If you think it will be so inconvenient of you to have them taken down and washed, then you might as well really just buy a new one.
Although, it might cost a lot more.

Yeah, a change in color and style makes the appearance of the room different.
But wow, you change them after 4 months? Well, i guess, that's because it's so cold there, so there's no dust to soil them.
Me, i change the curtains in our bedroom, every month or sometimes every other month. Since it's always sunny, they tend to get dusty after that duration.

I have not washed some of them in a while. My mom always hung them back up damp because they dried straight then without her ironing. My curtains were not cheap in the living room, but the rest are from thrift shops.I change them out like some change their clothes. I buy shower curtain liners, pretty cheap. The rugs, sure I wash them, and line dry them often.

My mom is visiting in 2 weeks and that's why I need to start doing some cleaning and washing the curtains was one of the things that crossed my mind but if I can find a nice set for cheap that's what I do instead, otherwise I would hand wash them cause our washing machines would surely ruin them

I remember growing up our curtians at home also got washed only once in a blue moon, haha! Here in the Philippines the curtains used are often of very light material--the kind that would flutter when the wind blows, and would let plenty of light in. Sometimes curtains are also made of lace. So, it's quite easy to just dust them off. Now in my apartment I do not have curtains at all, just blinds. The blinds are bamboo and are quite decorative, so I decided not to cover them with curtains.

I would love some bamboo blinds, mine are just white and boring looking that's why I put curtains over them.

I wash.
My curtains are not expensive as I buy discounted fabric and make them myself and yes, it is a hassle to take down the heavy ones but hey, it's easier than buying new when I have little chance of finding what I want.
My flimsy lacy curtains can be washed and hung back up as they dry in 3 minutes.
It's good to put fresh curtains back up whether they are new or washed because it's such a good chance to give your whole window treatment a thorough clean. Then you can feel noble for weeks because you did it.

I do wash my curtains and clean my blinds. Not as much as I would like to though. It would be easier to just replace them though. I do replace the shower curtain after I have cleaned it a few times. If I could run across some good deals, I would go ahead and replace them all at once.

Well, if I have to be honest, who is in charge of washing the curtains in my house, it's just my mother.
Despite in the drawers have several pairs of curtains, no too so often (maybe even twice during a whole year), she changes it by putting in the washing machine that dirty.
It happens sometimes, however, that if she tends to find cheap, decides to buy them and replace them with those usual.
However, this rarely happens.

Funny you should say that, I got my boyfriend to wash them today by hand and he said there were really really dirty.
I knew that but they didn't look it or smell it , they are a greenish color and you really couldn't see how dirty there were.
I still want to get different once though

I wash my curtains, my shower curtain and my rugs. I think it is cheaper to just wash them than it is to buy new ones. I really like the one's I have now and I am afraid I would not be able to find more like them too. I would rather be cheap.

Hi missybear, I wash the curtains every 6 months in my hometown where I can hang and dry under the sun and change it for a new sets of curtains. I never experience to buy curtains for our house because my sister has a curtains business which she always give me a curtains twice a year, it was her way on showing her gratitude to us by helping her for the school expenses of her children. I do love her works because she already what kind of textiles, colors and design that I want for my curtains.

It is a hassle to wash the curtain and put it back but what to do.. .. I also throw the bathroom curtains when they are very dirty. thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I am wondering that from 4 years your curtains are not washed. May be they are hung at a place where there is less dirt and all. I used to give my curtains for dry cleaning every season otherwise they'll start stinking. Shower curtains we can change once used but they are easily washable i guess. but yeah washing curtains at home is really a big task.
