A Bus Ride

I was running my way to the bus stop last Friday to be able to go home. I just don't understand why there were so many passengers that time and less bus. I was not able to ride on the first and second bus because those were already full. With almost an hour of waiting, here comes the third bus . Several passengers went down so I was given a chance to go up and have a ride. I have to stand because there were no seats available and worst, the man at the end of the line doesn't seem to care when I requested him to move a little forward because there are still several passengers near the door who might fell out of the bus. I just have a thought that there really are less gentlemen nowadays. What do you think guys?

Sorry to hear about the incident but I think there are still lots of gentlemen around. Maybe it just so happen that the guy in the bus isn't the gentle one or perhaps he had a bad day and just doesn't seem to care.

So kennethfoo and shiloh are you both gentlemen? So you mean there are conditional gentlemen? Well, as far as I've experience, there are still but only few.

I think that there are a lot less chivalrous men around today. Society seems to accept more bad behavior than was acceptable when I was younger. Rudeness seems to be the way people relate today. I miss the days when people were more polite and friendly. We live in a "me" world where people care more about themselves than others. It is a sas state of being.

I also noticed that roberten, and I am so sad about it. Hopefully things would still change. Thank you for sharing your opinion. Have a nice day!

I have also noticed this. I can understand more people riding on buses because of gas prices. With that being said people should be more considerate of other people. I was a single parent raising 3 boys and I instilled to them manners and being respectful of others. I agree with you roberten, that it is now the "me" generation. But is that the only reason people are disrespectful or does some of it come from their upbringing?

STOUTjodee, I believe it is a combination of the times (being part of the "me" generation) and upbringing. Each generation seems to lose a bit of parenting skills; you can't teach what you don't know. It is more common to not use manners and so has become more socially acceptable. History is repeating itself again; all great nations seem to fall prey to this sort of behavior before falling from grace.
We have a lot of gracious and honorable people in this world but they shrink away as others lose their way. What is needed is a meeting of the minds, one hand extended to another. I shall not give up on the kindness of man because he who loses hope is at risk of losing his life (figure of speech only). This discussion has brought a lot of kind and respectful people to the forefront; we should continue this discussion as a global society. Things will not improve if we do not communicate our feelings.

hi Aries,
Thanks for the response, I have seen your daughter's photo she is cute and beautiful. So you have to travel compulsorily on buses, it is better to travel on early hours to reach your destination. Are you alone to travel or with your colleagues,if they are with you,you does not feel loneliness in traveling, have a nice day.

Hi yugasini! I can not avoid traveling long distance because I am presently assigned in a somewhat distant place. I spent around 1 1/2 to 2 hours of travel to reach the place. I wanted to be with family during the times that I don't have work so I have to travel and bear this kind of situation.

Well, according to some men who posted their complaint on twitter, it's the women who asked for equality and now they still want chivalry?
It's very rare to see a man nowadays who would offer seats to women. So I don't expect any man to open doors for me anymore.

Do you think a real gentleman needs a reminder? I mean if they are, it should come naturally, not forced.

Thank you eagletrek! I'm glad to know you are a gentleman. The people around you would surely appreciate you for that. But even if the people whom you helped does not appreciate the favor, wouldn't it be nice in the feeling that you had helped somebody even in the smallest way?

Such incidents are commonplace in our country.I have had this bitter experience many times when I was a college student. At that time there was no college in my hometown that was just a little more than a village. My college was in another city fifty kms away from my home town and I had to go there everyday by bus.I have traveled by heavily congested buses and nobody having a seat is ready to allow anybody to share the seat with him.You are right.Sensitive people are rarely found these days.We don't have civic sense and we have grown more insensitive to others.

Bus is the most convenient transportation here in our country because they have trips to the different part of our country. Also they cost really cheap. But sometimes eventhough the bus is full, the driver would still let passengers to come in so the effect is there are many standing at the aisle of the bus. Which is really annoying.

I had the same problems for many years where I live. Now I remember those days with a little longing. Now it´s very difficult for me to climb on a bus and I even avoid the Metro at peak time. It seems that there are less buses than needed everywhere. And rude people are everywhere too, but fortunatly they are not the mayority.

Hi marguicha! Yes, you are right, there are still people who are kind hearted and gentlement, so whenever I have an opportunity to encounter one, I really made it a point to broadcast my appreciation. I would say, "few people are like you. You are blessed."

Hi, I was living in the south and is currently working in the Manila region. And everyday, I had to endure not only the traffic but also the bus's seat as well. So, I would say that it become an everyday experience for me. And I already learned how to ensure that I get a seat in the bus no matter how many people are waiting to ride it.

I am a commuter..as in everyday, I do commute.I used to go home at 6:30 pm and yes, more often than not, I used to stand in the bus with a lot of gents sitting prettily. I have been wishing for the old practice. When a guy gave way for me to be seated, I shoulder his fare as a thank you expression. There are only few..so few gentlemen who can act like our grandpa's in the past. I really wonder how this new generation has been forgetting the old ways of respecting ladies and even old ladies..

Hi keshlois! Hoping the same way will happen. That a gentleman will offer a seat to a lady even if it is not me. But that seldom happens.

Hi friend, this kind of standing activities are quite common in my country, most of the time the bus is filled with rush and it is really hard to stand in the crowded bus, you are right, it is really hard to see a gentle person in a bus travel
