Hello guys, I have been surfing the net for 12 hours or so already and most of the time I do it the whole day since we have no classes today. Is this normal for you? How many hours is the recommended usage of the computer does anyone know?

If a person has children (or in my case, A child), and one has to give attention to THEM, and if they have to do housework, cook, pay bills, do yard work, then YES, 12 hours is a bit much. You, however, don't sound like you have ANY of that type of stuff going on, so if surfing the net is not interfering with your studying or affecting your grades (or your sleep), then I say that 12 hours is harmless.

Okay ^_^. Yeah I'm a student and sometimes it affects my grades but most of the time It helps me especially with encoding projects and stuff. The surfing is a bit of my outlet that's why when I'm depressed, I just surf the internet.

Ok, so as the saying goes, "Knowing is half the battle." Now that you have told me that being on the computer sometimes affects your grades, you MUST control the amount of time that you give to your homework. You have GOT to put the hours in. Don't let Internet surfing affect your grades, even if it is only "sometimes" (which is not bad, but it is still too much). School is a serious thing, don't screw it up. The Internet is a great outlet to use when you are depressed, but we ALL get depressed (some of us DEEPER than others, although it can feel like we are all alone in our plight), however, you've got to use that oh-so-important word DISCIPLINE and get that school work out of the way FIRST so that your grades stay on point...THEN get on the Internet, because that internet content is not going ANYWHERE. It will be there when you finish studying.

What ever floats your boat. I watch t.v. and surf, now that's multi tasking !! I personally waste eons of time using "stumbleupon" and/or "wimp". Here's one to start you off http://www.wimp.com/playgames/

Honestly, I don't find anything wrong with it, UNLESS being on the computer that long is preventing you from doing other things that need to be done. No one can truly say if its normal or not, because what is normal for one person might not be so normal for someone else. I've seen people sit on the computer for hours on end and totally forget to do the housework, do their homework, some have even "forgotten" to eat. My advice to you would be just to make sure you take breaks every now and then to stretch your legs and other muscles, and to do whatever chores/daily routine needs to be done, then come back to the computer. Before I had my daughter I used to do that too, I'd be online from the minute I would wake up until the minute I went to bed. I can't do that now because I have a child to take care of, but I have back issues, so I couldn't sit too long before it would start hurting, so every hour or so i'd get up and walk around or go lay down for a few minutes to watch tv or something. But I've since then gotten a laptop and truth be told, its made me slightly lazier, because now I don't have to stop what I'm doing online to go change positions, I can just take my laptop with me lol.

I think that's normal occurence when we are riveted to our pc, especially when we enjoy the things we are doing. 12 hours of computer usage is my maximum, usually. Turned it off and rest the pc for an hour or two then make online again. How I wish I could do that again, back on the days where I can spend virtually a whole day thing. Good luck

What on earth are you surfing over the net that could spend you 12 hours in it? Haha. Well, please take it slow my dear. You can alot 2 to 3 hours surfing the net. If you don't really have to do something over the net then just try to rest your eyes. You have to take care of that if you don't want to be blurred in the future. As for me, I spend almost 12 hours online but not because I am surfing but because I am working. It's been my nature. I don't wear eyeglasses before but now I am. The eye doctor advised me to wear one to reduce my headache and to save my vision from getting blurred. Hope you'll do the same. :) Thanks

Sounds normal to me but then I hardly go out, I prefer the comforts of being in my own home, relaxing in front of the computer. I am not a big television person, and if you think of it is 12 hours of watching television normal? So 12 hours of being on the computer is no difference, the only thing I do strongly advise is to take regular breaks, it's not healthy to be in front of your computer for 12 hours flat, ten minutes break to give your eyes a rest each hour is a good habit to get into. Some days I am on the computer from when I get up to when I go to bed, but I am always having breaks. If you enjoy being on the computer then you are harming no one! You are not alone!

Well, there's only 24 hours in the day,so spending half of them online does seem a bit much..and if you've no classes, isn't there anything you'd like to or should be doing NOT in front of a computer?

It is your own time and you manage the way you want. Just make sure you don't stress yourself or lose yourself in the electronic world. You are human, you need rest too. Enjoy!

As for me, I've been doing it for a year or so already at my work. And it's not good since your body is not that active, some may feel numbness. Being a student like you should concentrate more on studies, but no classes that usually occurs on weekends is an exemption. You may surf the net all you want just make sure homeworks/exams are done and don't forget to have your meal and snacks =) And don't forget your friends too, hang out with them more.

Hi- Its normal for a person spend time in 12hours if you need to just like work papers and if not if its just like nothing to do that will become bad 12hours quite to long I did not say that computer is bad literally but rather its up to you how will you used those computer or be in the same way spending time to improve at yourself or in a selfish way that you need? Its all about the intention inside at you.

There was a time when I played online games for 12 hours or even longer but after a week or two my eyes began to hurt and when I looked in the mirror the white of my eyes were red and every few hours they would begin to hurt again and tears would just start pouring out. So no it's not normal for you to be online that long even if it's to earn money you should be more worried about your health bro but if your online just for fun then you really need to find a new hobby, that's what I did...

Surfing the web for 12 hours is not safe either your eyes will get very blurry or you can get blind even. But it's safe if you surf for only 1-3 hours but you do have to rest your eyes so you can take a break then you can go back to surfing the web i hope my advice helps you and the other responders.

It may be normal to spend that long on the computer, but it certainly isn't healthy. I've read that it is recommended that web surfers take a break about every 30 minutes, stand up, walk around, do something else for a few minutes. Your eyes need the break. Your muscles need the break and your blood needs to circulate instead of pooling in your lower extremeties.

I definitely cannot spend 12 hours on the computer, I don't think I can stand it, it would hurt my eyes and my back so pain if I did. I think there are better things for me to do than surfing on the internet.

I think 12 hours is much more and eyes and headache problem may arise some time hand will also pain. This is not normal for me 5 to 6 hours is sufficient but 12 hours is much more.

Yes that is a little too much. After awhile in your later years you will develope things such as problems with your eyes and they'll become dry and water alot. It is better to take break every hour if you need to be on there for a long time like that.

Hi, I am also a internet surfer like you.. but have never surfed 12 hours a day still now.. 12 hours!! I can't even imagine of it. But , I see no problem in surfing 12 hours a day.. But keep in mind to relax by roaming outside.. And have your eye exercise by looking at the far away things outside..

I know that the following response will be one you saw in many places, but it all depends. If you surf because you work, then it's clearly nothing abnormal in this practice. If you want to enjoy yourself, again, these is really nothing bad with this decision.Problems appear where you DO have something to do,maybe something important, and you choose to ignore that just to stay on the Internet. That would be a problem that I see. Other than that, all is good.
