This morning, at Christ the King.

There were only twenty attendees for the celebration of the Holy Mass this morning at Christ the King, ERod, but the celebrator, Fr. Arlo Yap, passionately preached the Gospel, and explained symbolism, like he was using a red muffler (I don't know how to call that sash) today, because red is the color of blood, and blood pertains to martyrs who had offered their very lives.
So he doned red today, and ardently talked about the decapitation of St. John the Baptist, the prophet who feasted on locusts, and with no fear, criticized King Herod, for taking his brother Philip's wife Herodias, for his own. When Salome, Herodias' daughter danced for the king and his guests, he asked Salome what she likes, for he could even give her half his kingdom. Salome went to her mother Herodias, and asked her what she would tell the king. Herodias said that she must ask for the head of John the Baptist. Salome went to King Herod and told him she wants the head of John the Baptist on a platter.
Red is for martyrs, white is for saints, and green is for ordinary days. Nice to have a lesson about our religious rituals. And of course, the homily is something to look forward to, everyday.

Never knew about the representations or meanings of the different-colored "sashes" worn by Catholic priests. Yeah, it's always nice to learn the stories behind our religious rituals. It's definitely a nice thing to learn something new.

The gospels have the same stories, but wow, whenever you listen to the readings, you hear something new. For example, in the story of the Beatitudes, one evangelist called it Sermon on the Mount, yet another called it Sermon on the Plain. The explanation, or so I surmise, one is looking up and saw Jesus on a high point. The other was almost on the same level with Jesus, so he saw a plain. Then this gives us viewpoints actually, and lessons about our faith, first, we look up for our spirituality (image of the mountain, ascending), and second, when we obey the teachings of our faith, we keep our feet firm on the grounds (image of the plain).

See that? Learned something new again...this time, about perspectives! Thanks for always being a source of enlightenment. Such is one of the reasons why I follow your discussions.

Know what, there are philosophies that I admire, because in so many ways, these philosophies are just Christianity reworded. Okay, I respect what people chose to believe, but I am judgmental when people manipulate the teachings for vested interests.

I remember it was happen during the birthday celebration.
Imagine they both ask the head of John the baptist
Well, it's the cause why some people don't like to celebrate birthday because of that indecent. Only two birthday celebration mention in the Bible. Both celebration was not from the Christian people.

Oh i always love history when it comes to the saints and the religious. I saw one episode in NatGeo about this too. They went to the church where it said to have the head and bones of John the Baptist and opened the container that said to contain the bones of John the Baptist and the container was actually a very small box like this which contains these i guess there were four or three small bones.. i just forgot which part. The scientists were soooo careful to touch the bones as from all these years it has gotten a lot more fragile. They just chipped a small part to test for its DNA and see how old is it and the likes. It is amazing as to how they were able to piece it together. I also learned from that episode that when he was beheaded, his body was also chopped and distributed to different areas..its was like a souvenir thing for them.
