In my country, homeless dogs are one of the biggest problems of our streets. They clearly outnumber the homeless men in our area. They bite people, they are responsible for car crashes, you can't sleep at night. And nothing can be done, because some people stick up with them.
In my opinion,if there isn't any shelter for them,I would recommend that they would be euthanasia.I don't want to be cruel or harsh, but I don't thing something else can be done.
What is your opinion on homeless dogs? What do you think need to happen with them?

I think shelters should be formed to house and feed those dogs. Also they should be treated and given new homes. If this is not already in progress though, I think it will either stay the same or get better, it can't get any worse for them.

Yes,shelters are good at containing animals. They are used before adoption,to treat, clean and prep an animal for adoption. But we are talking about mature animals, hundreds of them in a city.To top it,I don't know of any working facility that would house dogs. So,while they are working to build those facilities,I am not against radical measures.

Radical measures of what kind? Realistically, the most liberal action to take would be to put most of them down, but the conservative method would be the shelters, but that would consume a lot of money. There really is no right or wrong way to approach this problem. It just depends on perspective.

In the Philippines,it is not a very serious problem because the authorities will surely haunts all roaming dogs in the street. The dogs would be injected with anti rabies vaccine to make them healthy. When an owner of the dog tries to get back his dog a fine is to be payed and the dog would be given a necklace for all to know he is a healthy dog,and even if it roams the streets the authority do not haunts it.

I think it's a good idea to tag the animals that are healthy. That way,you could be less afraid of he consequences.
In my country,Romania, the most homeless dogs don't have any visible owner, and they patrol the streets barking and howling.Until this moment, there wasn't a single method used. They just let them be,which I don't find quite comforting.

That is indeed a very serious problem to solve because the dogs are very dangerous when it bites with the rabies. The infected dog transfer it infection to the victim if it could not be given the right amount of vaccine to kill the germs and tetanus. In remote parts of our country, there are some inhabitants who likes to eat dog meat,
which is not approved by the government, yet so many of them are still doing it up to this days. There was a law prohibiting the slaughtering of dogs all over the country and whoever violates has a large fine of money and could also be send to jail. Many are still caught doing it,so the law was rewritten with more stiff penalties to violators.

I think that that problem has to be solved by the health depeatment. Much as I like dogs, I prefer human beings. And there are several ways to lessen this problem, but all mean money from municipal funds. In my country they give anti rabies shots to dogs for free in poor segmnets of the city, but they only reach those dogs that have owners who love them. The rest are dangerous.

I fell pity for them. Because they are homeless and no one cares for them. Its lonely to see dogs sleeping and the streets and eating trash. :)

In my opinion, I think the problem is caused by the owner, the way he/she treated the dog. There is nothing nowadays that doesn't have a owner, I think. If the animal is being maltreated, they will prefer to run away and it leads to what you stated. I think the better way to help them is to show love and not be cruel to them, if we also have a way to get connected to the owner, we should enlighten them on how to take proper card me them.
Thanks..

The current situation of the homeless dogs makes the tracking down of the owner downright impossible.I am talking about dogs that have been in the streets for months or even years, dogs that bred puppies that became also dogs.In this condition, you can't get anything for any owner, because you simply can't find him.

Euthanasia is always an option. It's the last one,to be fair.
There have been some projects, but as people become attached to some homeless animals, they don't declare them as homeless anymore. So they stay near flats, they're being fed, they have water to drink, but they are nobody's.
I have had my share of bites from these dogs. So,until they make any shelters,I won't be against any measures that concern them,as radical as they may sound.

Hello Oktavist. Here in my country dogs are supposed to be registered and kept on a leash or fenced in yard. But since the registration can cost plus the expense for shots that are required some people ignore the law. Dogs that are let to run loose can be very dangerous for people. They tend to travel in packs. In the country they attack livestock. In the cities they attack people and kill small pets.
Here if you know of dogs that don't have an owner you can call animal control and they will come and get the animal. If the dog isn't two wild they will tame it and try to find it a home. If it is too wild it will be put to sleep.
We have an animal show that deals with abused animals such as dogs.If a person is caught abusing ans animal bit it dog cat or horse they loose the animals and at least get fined and sometime are sent to jail.
My country is pretty strict about the treatment of animals.
Some of the shelters here are run on donations so they don't have to rely on the government for funding. Usually what the dog catcher does is catch the dogs and they wait for some time for the owners to come get the dogs if on one shows up then the dog is put down.

It is always a sad thing to see those pet dogs become to be homeless because of the irresponsible owners. I still think it is cruel to put the homeless dogs to be euthanasia because it is not their fault. Whereas they have to suffer this. I hope some kind people can adopt them. As to the dogs that nobody adopts, I wonder whether they can be set free in the nature. I think they can live there well and it will not bother the public.
I love China

What needs to be done is to make people responsible to spay or neuter their dogs and cats and don't allow people who abuse their pets to have one. Also the MAIN reason a dog bites is not because they are mean, but scared out of their minds.. Imagine you are homeless and around strange people you can't talk to and sometimes these people yell, kick, and beat you..Now along comes someone who is not abusive, but you don't know that, so if they invade your space, you get defensive..Most dogs like this can be trained to trust people again, and sometimes not, that is where professionals come in and see how far gone the dog is and if it can be trained to be a good dog.

In our village strayed dogs are not allowed. The authorities are catching every stray dogs so owners are warned not to let their dogs out on the street. If their dogs are seen roaming around, expect the authorities to catch them and they should bail them out before they could be turned back to them. If no owner claims in 7 days they exterminate the dog. I think this is really good because strayed dogs are almost always infected with rabies so if they bite they could infect their victims with rabies. Besides their scattered poop are smelly and unsightly so authorities must do something about them.
But I've seen on TV one woman who loves dog a lot so she adopts every stray dog especially those with handicap into her home. She feeds and care for them. She has practically made her home an orphanage for strayed dogs. I wonder if any of them ever bit her.But this woman is really one of a kind and worth admiration.

well in our area here there are lots of homeless dogs and they howl in the night which irritates me very much. i understand what you must be feeling and feel the same. i love dogs and i bring any puppy at home if I can afford. all pets I had was homeless dogs. But not everyone is like us to adopt them and the problem is getting worse.
there is a solution to it, it the government gives the females the injection so that they do not reproduce. I think would be a great idea and if they are taken to a dog house where they keep the stray dogs.
In my home in Fiji we have a troop which takes the stray dogs to a place where they keep the dogs. I think they are doing great back at home.
Here in India, no one is taking initiative. There must be some non profit organizations who must do this too. because it is a big problem. these dogs become fierce as well.
Have a wonderful day ahead.

Yes,I think this problem needs to be addressed to higher institutions.
I know I got bitten numerous times, and had to take anti-rabies shots.I too like puppies,I can't imagine killing them. The sterilization of the dogs seems to be one of the best idea, regarding this subject. But I don't think my government is going to "throw" money in helping us overcome this problem.
Dogs barking is the least of my concern. They could bite you without giving any warning. You can end up with a dog in front of you,on the street, while you are driving.
This is a serious condition and I hope that it will be taken care of.

Where I live there are also lots of homeless dogs and,as far as I know, no animal shelters. Dog lovers collect the animals and have them neutered so that more puppies are not born on the streets. I have rescued 5 dogs in three years and they have become lovely animals, pets and guard dogs. I think the only cure for the homeless dogs (and cats) is for children to be educated at school or at home and for parents and adults in general to give a good example. So the solution is some way off I am afraid.

in my country, homeless dogs or even not homeless get kidnapped and shipped to another country for selling.. it happens a lot and we don't wanna see that. They(dogs) have not done anything wrong.. they just protect themselves.. they are not used to playing with people.. that's why they bite.

Its a sad situation to see many homeless animals roaming the streets no matter where they are. I'm sorry to know that there are so many there where you are that they bite people, cause car accidents, etc. I would try to urge the govt to do something humane to save the dogs, nothing like euthanasia although I know there are not very many people right now who can keep them. But I don't think putting them all down is a true solution. I pray something is done for you and other countries as well as mine that these animals without a home can somehow get off the street and into some sort of animal shelter where they can be cared for and taken off the streets so that people can live their lives easier.

Hi,
It is the problem in our city also. The number of homeless dogs i increasing rapidly. They are very troublesome as they bite, or bark loudly in the night. they are sometimes become the reason for accidents of vehicles. I can't understand what to do with these dogs. In rainy season dogs come to our building and make the place dirty. There should something done from local government authorities.
