Dumb People

Did you ever wonder why some people get jobs when they are as dumb as a cardboard box? Last week the pharmacy called me to say that my doctor had telephone in a prescription for a new blood glucose meter and fax a prescription for the strips. The woman on the phone said her name was Melanie. Then someone calls back by the name of Vivian to ask if I would like to see the nurse to pick out a new blood glucose kit and have her show me how to use it. I told her yes and my son would be coming with me because I can't do it myself. We mad an appointment for 3:30 on Monday. Well my son and law get there and first of all the nurse said she didn't have me down for an appointment. Then she asked me which machine I wanted and I told her I didn't know because I did not know how they all worked. I needed a real easy once because I couldn't get the hang of the last one. She kept saying its for you to choose, I knew that but I wanted her help. So out of exasperation I tell her the same one I had. She goes and checks and say the are out of stock. Come back tomorrow now there was no way I was going back the next day, the walk was long enough as it was. So she tells me to make up my mind I want a machine or I don't. I was about to walk out and she says why don't you choose another one. I told her again I don't know how they work, she said they are all the same, So I saw One Touch and I said give me that one. She shows me how it works and it is not the same, the loading device for the needle is different! But it actually looked easier and so I took it. But then she said I couldn't have it because there was no prescription for it. I told her the doctor ordered it by phone, she said no. Now this doctor I have never seen before, so I said well K T the nurse practitioner will okay it just call her. She said no she can't accept her so she would have to send me to the pharmacist before I could get the machine. Here I go to the pharmacist who tells me again there is nothing in the file for the authorization. But he says he would call. Guess who he calls, the nurse practitioner and I got my machine! My son is taking my blood sugar for me.

I am glad you were able to get it. I would have asked for someone else, if the lady had made comments to me like that. I am so sorry that you had to go through all that. Some people just should not work with the public.

Sorry you had to go through that exasperating ordeal. That is unfortunately typical unhelpful customer service. Yes, it is often like you are trying to talk to a complete moron. I handle financial information all day long and cannot believe how well some really stupid people get paid. I cannot understand how some people get their jobs.

Personally that is the problem anymore is people have to wait for a Doctors ok to do anything, even if it is an Emergency. I personally think they need to be more coordinated especially in a Doctors office, but you never know. You would think they could have asked there instead of you having to go to your pharmacy and having them call? Really makes you wonder doesn't it.

I tend to be very meticulous when it comes to people who don't seem to know what they're doing. I usually give them the eye roll when I feel that their stupidity had already exceeded my tolerance. Anyway, I am not surprised if some companies hire incompetent people. Some just overlook their resume and just hire them because they're short of man power. With what happened to you, you should filed a complaint. People who work in places like those especially where medicine and human life are concerned should be well trained and well informed. I know that each person usually has his own technique and methods when it comes to work and service but having a centralized standard procedures would be very helpful not only to customers, but most especially for the whole company.

Being polite and helpful are a part of working with people and in this field there is no place for kind of behavior. If that nurse did not know the proper procedure to handle the situation then she should have gone and found someone who could help Winter out. It sounds to me like she just did not wanter to bother to help her out and show her how the machines work so she could make the choice that's right for her.

Winterose, if it were me, I would have answered her back. How can anyone calm down if you are in such a situation. Even if you'd try to, with all your will power and strength, you can't ask yourself to calm down after such incompetence.

I do believe some sectors hired people who are unskilled for the job position. I hated in some point.

People skills are important when working in the public and especially so when working with people who are disabled or sick.

Yes there are a lot of dumb and rude people with jobs that you could never imagine them getting. Too many jobs look at your education only and not so much your people skills, if you look pretty on paper they will take you. A lot of ladies I come across who work at front desks are extremely edgy and I'd love to know how they got that job, they must've put on a good act in the job interview.

It sounds like they sure cannot get their act together. They should have explained it carefully to you. I am glad the pharmacist called your nurse practitioner.

same kind of crap i deal with all the time with my pain meds. i seldom take them so its not like i abuse them. so my doctor used to let me have the script all the time for almost a year. suddenly last july he starts getting funny about them and has me go to a pain specialist that gives me one script, no refills. this doctor acted like i was suspitious even tho i hardly ever get them. so now i tell him i want another doc and my regular doctor refers me to another last month. he put me on something thats like tylenol, helps very little when i need it. i tell him this morning on the phone about it helps very little. i want the other meds back. the nurse says i have to make another appointment and come in my daughter says in florida her ex's mom got them all the time, on time no problem!! even my inhaler that i need the rest of my life i have to visit the doctor to renew at times. i dont understand it. and all he ever does these days is check my vitals and ask a couple questions and thats it! and all this when they know you dont always have transportation.

yep my diabetes pills I will be on the rest of my life. However, the doctor has to renew them. It has to do with the law. They can't just give an open prescription.

Ugh - didn't that just make you want to scream? That was horrible customer service! I don't know what it is about customer service these days, but either they are dumb as cardboard or they aren't being trained right. Seriously I would make a complaint . . . this should NOT be happening in the medical world (but oh gawd, sadly I know it exists there too!).

It happens to me as well, and makes me think "why are you in these job if you don't know what is your job". It really irritate when someone makes me go back the next day because of this and that, that really so upsetting and the fact that they don't give me any consideration even if the mistake was in their side, that makes me mad more. I just hope that these people do their job better so that no one will be in a messed up situation.
