Just wondering your thoughts on this. Does fear the Lord mean that we are to be afraid of Him, or does it mean that we are to honor and respect Him.
The word fear does have a dual meaning. Anyway my thought is that it's probably both. What are your thoughts on this, looking forward to your reply's.

Hello my friend violann Ji,
Well, I always fear from myself, my own deeds, which I should not have done. On emay reply with many evidences to support one's own wrongs, but what will one do to say to oneself. I think if any of us could remember all of his/her misdeeds and bring out to others, I do not think any one has courage to do. This is fear. Why to fear from Almighty, when I know that HE is our care-taker.
May God bless You and have a great time

Hello my friend violann Ji,
Well, no sooner anyone comes out from his heart and confess one's mis-deeds, one becomes greatest of all, one will simply fly with no wings. It is the greatest achievement of one's life. Let's try out. First remmeber our mis-deeds and then agree publically and get ready to face all un-towrads.
May God bless You and have a great time

Our God is not a monster God , so why do we fear ? he is a friendly , loving God. He waits for us any time of our convience. He don't even push us hard for things that we need to do , He just waited patiently because of his great love to us. let us respond to His call , long time He is waiting.

God is all loving I agree but the other side of the picture is that God is holy and we are not. He is also just and will one day require us to give an account of the way we live. The kind of fear we have for him is one of awe. I don't agree that he waits for us indefinitely, he give us time but not forever. Why try his patience when we can respond now?

That is so true the kind of fear we have for him is one of awe. And you're right 41CombedaleRoad he doesn't wait indefinitely the Bible say now is the appointed time, today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:1, 2

I think that, according to Jesus' teaching, we should love God and trust him as a Father. We should certainly have no cause to be afraid of Him in the sense that we would be afraid of a dangerous animal or of breaking the rules at school or something like that.
Probably people who wilfully go against the simple rules which He gave to Moses might, indeed, have cause to shake in their boots but most of us try to behave at least according to the two precepts which Jesus gave us: that we should love God first and foremost and then love our neighbour as we do ourselves. We have His promise, too, that, if we are contrite about our sins and shortcomings, we shall be forgiven.

Like what you've said, we fear God because we honor and respect Him. We consider Him as an authority figure who rules over us, judges us, and punishes us when we disobey Him. This type of fear is comparable to how we feel towards a parent, a teacher, or a king. Fearing God doesn't mean that He's scary. We could fear someone and love that person at the same time. God is our friend, but He isn't equal with us, so it's natural to fear Him out of respect.

Fear of The Lord is the beginning of knowledge, however the spirit of fear is from the enemy. Fear can be used as a warning to keeping us out of danger. This is not the same as living in fear.
