Some Asian countries had this kind hobbies in earning extra money. I had seen this in the rooster arena, especially in the lowlands. The lowlanders used to put money to the rooster of their bets, then gain money if they win. It is also considered the national sport, since the time of Spanish regime here in the Philippines. Nowadays, it became a main attraction for some foreigners to witness the rooster fight. In some instances, they put sharp blades tied on their legs, known as "tari". The reason, to add more excitement by having blood around the rooster arena. The rule of thumb, to fight either alive or not.

I had seen it at the Borneo island, Sarawak when I worked there many years ago.
The fight and the bet of roosters is considered as one of the gambling and gambling is illegal in my country, Malaysia.
After the fight, the badly injured roosters were killed. They fried and sold to the people to eat on the spot.
For me, I do not support this type of game because it is inhuman and gambling is against the rules of my country.

It actually surprises me that there are places in the world where chicken fighting is legal because it is something that is very much illegal here. Now, having said that it is something that is illegal, I actually happen to know for a fact that there are a lot of people that do take part in this illegal activity here where I live. I know that it is something that is done in private, but if a person is to see a chicken that has been bred to fight, it is easy to tell that fighting is the reason that the chickens are there.

I remember my late father from your post. When the U.S. Navy was still here, he and his friends would go to cockpits during paydays and fortunately they always win. He would come home with the money in his pocket and would gave everything to us (his children). He told us that money belongs to us and not for our mother because his whole salary was given to her. And mother doesn't really care about it, for she knows that we will use it for our needs and we are intelligent in using the money. Your post make me feel sad and can't help remember my father.
I just hope that fathers who are playing in the cockpit would be like my father, he do it for enjoyment and shared it to his children. Not those that would let their children be hungry just to gamble.

This is against the law here in New Mexico, U.S.A. where I live. Some still try to get away with as do some with dog fights. While I am not a PETA type, I don't believe in this kind of mistreatment or any mistreatment of animals either. I am more lenient when it comes to medical testing, but not with the common pet type animals, and I am not a vegetarian.

I absolutely hate things like this. I cannot imagine why people enjoy watching this it is so cruel and sad. I would never watch anything like this. That would be illegal for this rooster fighting in the united states. Some people do this with dogs.

In my country rooster fights were prohibited a long time ago, over a century in fact. A lot of the Spanish sports with blood on it are not permited here. That way, we donĀ“t have bulls and toreros either. Some people gamble at horse races, but noone is injured.

Hey Shavkat! My husband used to be so into this kind of sport. He sometimes comes home empty-handed and other times he would win with lots of money plus the rooster that lost to his own rooster. I think even when he was still a kid, he already had a liking with it. He is no longer that active with that "sport", but we still do have some roosters in our place coz he opted to breed them and sell them.

this is utterly disgusting.
i don't agree with any sports involving animals at all. if people want to hurt things, hurt each other, not defenseless animals.

This cruel and inhumane blood sport is against the law in most of the USA. I would not have any respect for anyone who condones this as a way to make money. Cruel and in-human people condone such things.

Yes, this kind of game is legal in our country shavkat. My husband is not very fond of the game itself but on developing a kind of rooster that is strong and powerful. He have several roosters and his friends would buy or rent for the fight. He said he is happy when his rooster won the fight. I don't understand it really. But this is the only hobby that he have. He does not drink liquor or have a constant going out with friends, so I just allow him to do this kind of activity.
