Cinema vs. DVDs

September 3, 2012 9:18am CST
My movie buddy and I started watching movies almost every weekend when we were in our 2nd year in college. It has been almost nine years and we are still doing what seems to be or has become a tradition for us. But with the increasing prices on movie houses would it be advisable if we watch DVDs instead in the comforts of our homes? Back then one movie ticket only costs Php 60.00, now it ranges to Php 120.00 on regular screening, Php 200.00 on 2D, and Php 350.00 on 3D. Original DVDs of current movies costs about Php 750.00. Should we still go to the classic feel of the movie houses or should we keep DVDs instead???

There's no competition. Nothing will beat the comfort of the cinema seat with drinks holder and the huge screen with high surround sound system. I only buy DVD's if I really, really liked the movie that I feel I would want to see it again sometime in the future.

@topic Yes, agree to this one., there is no competition on both sectors but if you're going to ask to the quality i prefer to watch on Cinema, cos in Cinema it has good and High quality sounds and video than watching video's on DVD, and some of the DVD was recorded as "CAM" LOL :D

You have a good idea there tech, but if you are really low on funds, you may just buy some DVDs and you can repeatedly watch it over time. In my case, I am living here in my cousin and they have a very good DVD system, its like watching in movies too. Provided those things, buying dvd is preferable.

Why not pirated DvD? It's less cost and many movies you can watch..

Well for one, the cost of pirated DVDs does not pay the people that made the movie possible and mostly pirated DVDs are made with low quality.

Unless it is a movie that I really can't wait to see or it is a special occasion, I don't go to the movies anymore. It makes no sense for me to pay the price that they ask when I can just wait a little while and rent it on DVD from a place that only charges a minimum amount of money where I can see 10 movies for the price I would pay for one. The great thing about staying home and watching a DVD is that I can get up and get what I want, when I want it, I can laugh as loud as I want, pause is a great feature! I can't go get something to drink in a theater and ask for the movie to be stopped for a minute until I get back. I got a TV that has the 3D function on it and I love it! I like it more than the kids do and they are the reason I got this TV in particular!

I suggest doing both things. Watch dvds at the comfort of your own home more often than watching on cinemas. At least, the DVD copies can give you the chance to replay the movie anytime of the day. The upside of watching a movie is the joy of laughing with other people too. Being in a social place has psychological impact on a person. And remember, it's not how, but who watches the movie with you.

I totally agree that it is with who you are with and not how you watch it. I'm starting to collect good movies on DVD so I can watch it again and again.

Definately cinema as on DVD u will never get picture quality, sound , looks and ambience. From the past few year we r watching movies almost every weekend . But now it became a little less as my daughter is too small and some times she create a real nuisence in the hall.

That's one of the reasons I prefer DVDs---you don't have to dress-up or go somewhere outside your home to see `em (after you've bought `em, that is; although--with NETFLIX, or some other service that delivers `em to your door--you scarcely even have to do that!) With children (when they get old enough to understand what the movies are saying), you may want to take them out so-regularly that a DVD at home seems like more of a treat! I also prefer DVDs because of all the extra stuff that usually comes recorded on them---outtake-reels, making-of features, producer- & director- & star-commentaries that you can play while watching the movie again (to hear about some of the work that went into the production), musical-score play, etc. Rather than just 'popping in for a coupla hours,' you and your buddy can make a whole day out of the movie if you want to! (or a half-day, quarter-day ... whatever!)

Depending on the movies you can select either DVD or Cinema,a 3D movie has to be seen in Cinema hall only. But normal movies can be seen in DVD's.Make your circle bigger so that your expense can be cut short

There are 3D movies you can watch in the comforts of your home with those new 3D TVs and 3D glass that goes either with the TV Set of the DVD player...

I still prefer to go to the movies because of 3D movies - they are just amazing. I work from home and when I get bored, I would prefer to watch in the cinemas here and check out which ones are showing. That way I get to be refreshed being outside as I could also go to the mall for a while. Yeah movie tickets have become expensive. I think it's also because cinemas are upgrading their features. Here in my hometown, we still have 100PhP worth of cinema ticket for this old mall. In another newer mall, a movie ticket costs around 120PhP or 180PhP.

Buy a pirated DVD because its a lot cheaper, just kidding! Don't do that. I know its illegal. Well, if you have money or you have money to spend for DVD go for it. Same with cinema as long as you have money, you can watch it and enjoy. You can choose original DVD even though its expensive as long as you have money or try the cheaper one than DVD, which is watching on a cinema. The thing is what makes you happy, stick with it as long as you have money in your pocket.

Me and best friend some times go to cinema to watch our favorite movie. Not every time we go to cinema. We don't have enough money to go cinema, so we will rent DVD in DVD rent store near my house and watch that DVD together. It can make us save our money to watch in cinema
