How do you feel about Randy Jackson leaving American Idol?

I knew it was going to happen, but the announcement that Randy Jackson was no longer going to be a judge on American Idol still surprised me. Many people say the show is alienating its fan base, but I think its a move in the right direction. The show is also adding Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj as judges. What do you guys think about all these changes.

I haven't been watching it much lately. But I figured as much. Look, after Simon left it seems that the show started loosing its appeal. The show does need an actual music business personality. What they should have done was ask Gene Simons if he was interested, I think he would be a good addition. But maybe having Jimmy Iovene become a judge would be a plus. Thats a guy that knows his stuff. Then for filler you could have some musicians. But I cannot see Niki Maaj or Mariah Carey. People that are actual musicians would be much better in my opinion.

Thats why Simon was the best judge. He told them exactly the truth. I agree that all the other judges sugar coat everything. I don't think American Idol will be around long now.

I believe there are other people who will give it to the contestants straight, that's why the show really needed to get rid of Randy. He set the precedent for lies and the new judges went with it.

I think the show is missing honesty. The judges tell all the contestants they're great, but if everyone is great how do you decide a winner. The other problem is they have only had a few contestants actually become stars. I really don't think they back the winners up enough.

Well I'm surprised by this because I only knew about Jennifer and Steven leaving. I'm not sure I will be watching this year. I don't particular like Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey is good but who is going to replace Randy? I do love Ryan the host of the show. However, that is not enough for me to watch. I think the show is going to go down hill from now on. Just like the X-Factor I will not be watching that for sure this year. Not with Britney Spears and the other female judge they added. I think they should have kept Paula and only got rid of Nicole. I don't see either show going on for very long.

OMG I don't think the Jonas Brothers or especially Adam Lambert has the creditials to be a judge. They are way to young and don't have enough of a resume to pull this off. We need legends who have been in the business forever, like Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight or Rod Stewart. We know none of them would this though, unfortunately.

I'm not sure who will be replacing Randy, but Katie Perry just turned down 20 million, so we might be looking for some along those lines. There were rumors about one of the Jonas Brothers or possibly even Adam Lambert.

I like the idea of Adam Lambert because he is American Idol alumni. It would be a great message to send to the fans that they stand behind their artist. I like Kelly clarkson even better though i dont know if she is still under contract with Duets.

Thanks for sharing this because I had no idea that Randy Jackson is leaving American Idol. I think change is always necessary to keep a show fresh, I'm a big fan of America's Got Talent and I was upset that Peirce Morgan left, but now I like watching Howard Stern better than him as a judge. To be honest I haven't watched American Idol in quite awhile, I'm more so into the talent shows now that go beyond just singing acts.

I love the singing side to it. I don't really like variety shows so I usually go for shows like American Idol. I know Howard Stern is bruttally honest with people and thats exactly what AI needs.

I personally don't think it's anything we should worry about. People come and go. As much as liked having Randy there, it is their decision. I liked Randy in American Idol. He is a real musician of a very high order. I also liked AI with Simon Cowell as one of the Judges. I know a lot of people hated Simon Cowel. But at least he gave AI a real twist. He of all didn't cringe of fall for anything lame, he set a balance between what is real talent and karaoke. lol. I always thought at first the way he contradicts everything was just part of the whole show.

I think Simon was unhappy on American Idol from the beginning. He probably had his own ideas of how things should work which is why he started X Factor. I like all the shows that are out right now.

I think the new judges would find a great idol as they are experienced in that career. This would be a new challenge for all the contestants as the judges have high expectations in singing... But removing Randy Jackson is kinda sad as he gives his true comments and suggestions for the improvement of the idols... Hopefully this would be a great season for the show :D

I think having Mariah as a judge will be intimidating for some people. I hope she really tries to mentor certain people, because I know she could show people how to really sing.

If anything she should bring high expectations, because she really is one of the best singers ever.

Mm.. I think she will teach every one fairly.. She's nice I think. She will deliver it successfully :)

Oh no..I am not expecting Randy Jackson to leave the show. I thought that after Simon, he is sort of the lead judge. One of the three or 4 judges should be the anchor judge and someone who knows the entertainment business. The rest of the judges could then be successful celebrities with good credentials. But on the other hand, the show does need some fresh changes to continue its appeal, so maybe this is the right move.

I think Ryan Seacrest is all you need to anchor the show. He's the one person who represents American Idol to me more than anyone else. Randy Jackson to me was an annoyance that I tolerated.

I think it is just a way to freshen up the show and that adding new faces will likely give excitement to its avid viewers!

American Idol was much better when it was Simon Cowel,Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. I think it was the best way for him to leave the show because he's not that being constructive lately in his criticisms. I am not sure about this season, because i promised myself not to watch it anymore.

Letran you have to let Simon go. He has his own show now. I know you miss him, but its time to move on. LOL. It would be refreshing to see some honest criticism in these shows. Duets did a lot of that and I thought it was more believable that way.

its all part of the show and i feel its preplanned and something was done before hand to make him leave, but this is a shock

I had a feeling they would be changing him, though I think he will be part of the show behind the scenes. I think they want more star quality from the judges, because between Demi Lovato and Britney on X Factor, and the judges from the Voice an average judge just wont cut it this year.

I think that Randy Jackson is going to continue on American Idol as a mentor. Isn't that what Jimmy usually does? So is Randy going to replace Jimmy or mentor with him? I guess there will be a lot more announcements coming. I am going to take a wait and see attitude about AI. The new season does not begin until around January, correct? If so, we still have four more months for surprises. I really like Randy by the way and would miss him if he is gone forever.

Jimmy owns the label that most of these contestants sign with. He is a shrewd businessman. Randy would make a decent mentor as long as he gives the most honest advice he can give.

This is new to me... So this season will have all new judges then... Ryan Seacrest will be the one constant factor in American Idol, it seems...

Ryan Seacrest is the staple of the show. I personally did not like Randy Jackson, i thought his whole bit got old real fast. The show was losing ratings so they are making big changes to compete.

Personally I think it was his time as well to go. He had been a judge on there a long while and it seems he was just losing some of his steam. Perhaps the show is going downhill anyways with Simon's leaving, but if they replace the judges I think it still don't be any better. I am not even that excited to watch it like I used to be when it returns. I'd rather watch XFactor, I liked it alot the first time I watched it which was last year. I get tired of those reality shows where my favorites never ever win.

I know what you mean. Last Season American Idol sucked because the judges threw out all the good singers and kept the boring ones. It was all in an attempt to stack the deck in favor of certain contestants, but for me the show lost credibility for doing this. Not to mention they weren't bringing out any starts. Hopefully with new judges there will be a better talent pool to draw from. I'll be watching X Factor, though I don't think Britney was the best move they could have made.
