Pawning My Ring As A Last Resort

I am counting the content of my coin purse and found out that I only have fifteen (15) pesos inside. That is equivalent to ($ .40). It is still way too early to expect for a salary. I don’t have anymore money to pay for my lunch. Since I cannot withdraw my money in the bank because I had it deposited in my bank account in our place and I cannot go home. And my atm account is only intended for my salary, so far, I think it has a balance of a very little amount.
What will I do, the group are having the same problem? I went to the nearest pawnshop and presented one of my rings if I could pawn it for some amount. The employee examined my ring and told me that it can be accepted for pawning at the amount of 2,400 pesos (approximately $60). I agreed to the terms and bid goodbye to my ring. Well, this is just temporary and we will still see each other in a few days. Thanks God they have this kind of business establishment in this town. Having some jewelry is also a great help when things like this happened. The last time I pawned my ring was more than 5 years ago and I realized that the price had increase from the last time I have it pawned. I am really fond of buying jewelries whenever I have extra money. They are not only for accessories but could also serve as another source of money whenever we don’t have other resources anymore.
Have you tried pawning jewelry my fellow myLotters?

I have never been in a position where I had to pawn anything, but I've brought some nice jewelry from a pawn shop. However, when I was young and single, I did charge food at the local grocery store until my next payday. I have also frequently walked the 27 blocks to work because I didn't have a quarter for the bus. I carried a lunch made from the food I had charged with that nice grocer. If it were not for him, I would have had to try to pawn something, if I had anything worth pawning, which I didn't.

This was all in the long ago past. I have not been young and single for many years. I don't know of any grocery stores that offer credit these days.

Hi bellis! It's good to know that you have a local grocery store which you can purchase in credit. I am just in a different situation ang I will see to it that this would be the last. Thank you for sharing.

Jewelry can be quite the investment. I have pawned jewelry and got enough money to fufill a need at the time. The feeling of needing to do this was very upsetting. I was in an area of town full of pawn shops and payday loan lenders. These places were on every corner, and I never thought I would need to pawn MY JEWELRY. One day it happened. I was just not able to make ends meet, and it was the best thing to do at the time. Well, I went from pawnshop to pawnshop, compared offers and settled on the third which was also the same as the first two. I got my cash and never saw my rings again.

We just have to mark the date when we must redeem the jewelry. I already pawned the same ring five years ago and I was able to redeem it on time. This time it is really needed to do it once again. It's just like borrowing money, we have to know when we have to pay.

Hi roberten! Sorry for the late reply. Yes sometimes if we did not agree on the price because we are expecting for a higher price. Until now I was not able to get back my ring. Hopefully I could have it back next month when my bonus come.

Can you recommend any honest pawnshop in the Philippines. Because I was planning before to pawn my tablet but I was hesitant because I don't know which pawnshop are good and honest. Maybe I would need money again so I hope that I know where to pawn it.

Well, wait why are you going to pawn that? How can you work, eh? Well, anyway, I have my ring pawned at MLhuiller. I'm sure they have a branch everywhere.

My husband recently pawned his gas powered remote control car for some extra cash. Sometimes it is just necessary.

I'm aware that this has been a month ago and I hope you are well. May the Lord lead you to prosperity. He knows your needs.
I don't have jewelry and am not planning to have some. I don't have experience pawning valuable items either.

Hi garson. As much as possible I don't want to pawn any of my things but it's just that I really need it for my daily needs. Hopefully I could redeem it soon. Thank you for sharing.

I've actually never been in a pawn shop. I did sell some rings when I was really desperate for cash though; someone came to my home. He showed me his credentials, and made an offer. I wouldn't mind going to a pawn shop near my home, but the surrounding neighborhood is a bit scary. I guess I'll have to bring someone with me so that I feel more secure.
I'm glad that you had a way to get some money for food, although you'll end up spending more to get your ring back. That probably would prevent me from pawning something.

Well, this is part of life. Sometimes, we will just come into a situation wherein we are nowhere to turn to. Well, anyway, I could redeem it as soon as the training ends. during that time, I could already go anywhere. As of now we have restrictions on where we can just go.

You should really be thankful to God that you have a ring that can be pawned. Imagine if you don't have any. How could you ever survive till pay day with that P15? Well although I believe that God will still make a way for you it still makes sense to invest in jewelry if you have the money.
I have not really come to the point of pawning my jewelry. (Thank God!) But should the need arise I also would. This is better than borrowing money from others. I don't have the face to borrow money from others actually.

Yes, I am thankful to God. Well, I really into buying jewelries whenever I have extra money. I know that this things appreciate as time passed. Unlike other gadgets where the tendency is to depreciate in value. Jewelries can also be a good form of investment.

Honestly there have been a couple of times that I have considered pawning my rings, but I've never been able to bring myself to do it because they are very much a part of me and for that reason I wouldn't be able to part with them for even a couple of weeks.
Now, my best friend, on the other hand, had a couple of old rings that didn't have a lot of meaning for her that she did pawn last year when she was down on her luck and she was never able to get them back.

Yes, I have done same thing. I was really out of money and thought it was the last shot. unfortunately, it took me more time to gather enough money to have it back so I failed getting it back. I regret not having my jewelries back, but can no longer do anything about it.

I have it pawned just for the amount I needed. I will have it back when I was able to transact business after the training.

My mother used to do that all the time and we didn't like it. There were 8 of us and she raised is all alone and at times we had to go to bed with empty stomaches. She would always have things to pawn for money to buy food for all of us and it's not like we had things to pawn and I always wondered where she got them and now I know. We would dig in dumpster for things. Have u ever heard the term someone's junk is someone else's treasure. Well we would find valuable things in the trash and we would dig it out and drag it home with us and the next day we'd pawn it. Once we found brand new tools and we pawned it and got like 300$! We did that for a long time but I would never do that. I don't have friends where I could borrow money nor family but if I needed money I would think of other ways to earn money.
But all in all, I hope things pan out for u:)

thank you verelop for sharing your experience with us. I don't see anything wrong with that. As long as we are not stealing. I hope things will be okay in the next days.

I go for jewelries than any luxurious things. I find it a good investment and of great help when financial difficulties arises. I acquired my jewelries by lay away procedure as part for my monthly budget taken from my salary which is just enough for our basic needs. At the end of the year or once i have done with the payments I will have the item and then once again I'll start for a new one. Many times I had brought my jewelries to the pawnshop for my unfinished projects or even for the tuition fees of my children. Once a friend came asking to borrow money instead of money I offered my jewelry to be pawned and to give back to me once she redeemed the jewelry.

Yes friend. Jewelry can be a good investment because while other things, depreciate in value, jewelries appreciate as the time passes by. I was also given an offer of that kind of scheme in buying jewelry but my present situation won't allow me. Perhaps I will consider that kind of buying jewelry. Thank you for sharing.

It is good to have this option so that you do not have to borrow money but I hope that your financial situation improves so that you won't have to do this again.

So you only had 40 cents in your pocket and now you have $60.40 in your pocket? I don't think I could ever pawn jewelry nor anything ever again. A few years ago I pawned a keyboard (the musical instrument) for some money and I didn't realize there was a difference between pawning and selling. I could have gotten it back but didn't realize that at the time, actually on a few days ago did I realize this.
That being said, I will never pawn anything again, I may sell something but it has to be of very little value to me to do that.

Just for the time being as I don't have any option as of now. I am far from my home and we are bounded by some rules. We can not just go anywhere. There is also a difference as to the price of jewelry and other gadgets like cellphones or watch because while these things depreciate in value, the jewelry increase its value through the years.

I agree that jewelries/pawning is a better idea than borrowing money.
By pawning we are not disturbing other people and also we are avoiding any misunderstanding in the future between us and the person whom we borrow money.

During my college days, my mother used to pawn some of her jewerly in case I need some money in school especially when the salary is to far.
You are right, sometimes, even you are not fond of buying jewelry, there are times you may need it for emergency cases. My mother are fond of buying such accessories but most of it were already pawned and redeemed when she got enugh money.
Pawnshops are really big help for many people especially now that they accepts gadgets and appliances.

I did, when I was in University. My parents were really works so hard for our education, imagine three of the siblings are in University at the same time. Financial aid was so tough at that time. So I have this gold necklace, it is often taking a rest in pawnshop for a week or so. Well, that's life!

Hi blinjk! Sorry for the late response. I really thought I was able to make a reply to those who responded to this discussion. I was so busy the last few days. Yes having a pawnshop around is really a big help to us especially when time of difficulties came. Actually it's been a month already and until now I was not able to redeem my ring yet.
