i was searching for interesting stories when i come across this website. This link caught my attention about "eating soaps and sponges", i click on it and read this story. I was really amazed by what i read about in this article regarding this woman that eats soaps and sponges particularly with some tomato and bbq sauce. She prefers sponges with some hot relish, ketchup, mustard and honey, but if shes out of sponges a fruit scented bar of soap will fill the craving. it is said that it caused by a disorder called "pica" i have never known about this kind of disorder until i have read this article. I am really amazed by this woman how she likes to eat on this kind of thing. i can only imagine, how she manages to eat those sponges and soaps like it is barbeque or a sandwich. I have tasted soap and it doesn't taste good at all and sponges too..do you ever know or met such kind of people in real life? also i wondering do people with this kind of disorder ever eat normal food? There are also many other objects that Pica causes cravings for, such as metal, coal, dirt, sand, chalk, etc. Sometimes it extends to larger objects like furniture, ceiling pictures, lightbulbs, etc.

Pica is one of the rare and bizarre disorders. I have watched in discovery channel that sometimes, pregnant mothers in their first trimesters have this craving too. They would crave for ice chips and would eat a lot of it. My first encounter with this disorder is when I read it on a magazine. The person would crave for sands, (loads of it) and would it them. The complications for this craving is that, because the normal stomach is not used to accommodating large amounts of this hard "foods", I think there can be some scarring or ulcer, plus the malnutrition from not eating adequate nutritious foods.

i also read about pregnant women eating soft rocks..i wonder how this can affect the baby in their womb...and those hard stuff that cannot be digested by the stomach,..it remains there..but the woman i saw in the picture looks really fine and normal despite eating soaps and sponges.

Well I have seen many children who love to eat dirt, lick walls and eat paper.
I had a friend in school who ate desk's wood. I know its gross

This woman did get sick from eating too much soap. She said it gave her stomach cramps, constipation and diarrhea. She is also cutting down and trying to give up eating soap and sponges. She only eats organic fruit flavored chunks of soap. The article I read said she picked up a hookworm on vacation in Morocco and that's when her craving started. Weird. Yech.
