People say that there is no limit for learning. If you want to learn something, you should try to learn it without worrying about your age.
I read a short story which goes like this:
A man was travelling on a ship and he saw an old european sitting on one bench and trying to learn Chinise language. It is difficult language especially for european man because it is quite different from English or any other european language. So the man thought that the old man would soon get tired and stop learning.
However, every morning the old man used to learn so interestingly that this man went to him asked him surprisingly why he was learning such a difficult language at such an age.
The old man replied "Well it is my hobby to learn different languages. In my young age, I could not learn it as I was busy so now after retirement I am free and so I am enjoying learning this language. I do it for my joy...!"
Really there is no age limit for learning.

Hello deserve! It´s true, I´m learning piano in my 40`s, this year I began to play in mass, and I´m being payed for it. If we allow our brain to be lazy, it will be more lazy each time.
Blessings!

Well friend, you are still young...! I am older than you...! I too want to learn playing atleast one instrument. I had tried to play flute but could not learn it because of time constraints. But I think that I will learn it at some point of time in my life.
Congratulations for getting some payment for paying in mass.
I agree with you that if we allow our mind to become lazy than it will become more and more lazy which may cause you lot of problems. Even for your physical health also you have to keep working on something and learning new things would be a wonderful idea if time permits...!
Thanks for your views...!

Not only there is no age limit for learning it does not matter from whom we learn. As the saying goes 'Even a fool can teach the learned".

You have rightly added to the discussion that not only age but also it is not important from whom we learn. If we want to learn something, it does not matter who is going to teach us. If we keep this attitude then our learning becomes much easier.
It is not necessary that only experienced and qualified person can teach. It is the knowledge of a person and the willingness of the teacher and learn that matters the most.
Thanks for addition to this discussion... Have a nice time...!

True and correct! There are also other examples of having to go to school even at an old age. I have known a lot of them because some were featured in some local shows. I really appreciate for their effort. I also listed several things that I still wanted to learn, like scuba diving, playing the piano and a lot more. He he. I hope I would have enough time to cover all the subjects.

It is good that you have made a list of the things you want to learn. I have heard that some people make a list of their goals and keep it at some place where it can be seen repeatedly. It reminds you about your goals every now and then. I saw someone sticking a photo of a costly and very comfortable car on his fridge because he wanted to have enough money to buy that type of car for his family...! It is said this plays big role to keep working towards your goals..!

I never had a problem learning anything. So a while back I decided to start learning some things to make myself more marketable. The company I worked for closed and I don't have all the computer skills I need. I thought no problem. I have been going to the local career center where they help you out with different things. But I can't remember what I'm learning. I'm 64. I never thought that it would be hard to learn computer programs as I have used a computer for more than 30 years. Unfortunately the systems I ran were company/job specific and when those jobs go away the system becomes obsolete. I have learned a lot of different systems without a problem. The last one was 13 years ago. Now I find I'm having great difficulty in understanding and remembering everything. It's very easy to say when you're 20 or 30 or even 50 "Oh, it's easy to keep learning." It's not. I thought it would be. And I need a job. I'm trying very hard to learn and it's making me tired and discouraged.
My positive attitude is dwindling.

Well, I do agree that the age factor works in memorising things. But I must say that you are a brave person because you have dared to learn things. I also feel that because of your age, you may not be finding the work easy. But the idea is that if you want to learn something, you can learn it...may be little late.
I feel sorry for you when I understand that you are still looking for suitable job at the age of 64. This is the age to get retired and to have some rest. I hope that you will soon get some good job which will make your life more pleasent.
May God bless you...!

Thank you. And thanks for the comment! Because of the economy and the unexpected loss of my job last October (business closed) I find myself in the market again. I fear my age is against me, also there really are not many jobs out there. I just have to become more resourceful, creative. It's hard, though.

I don't agree. Some people just stop learning at some point. Maybe some old folks continue to learn but that doesn't mean it goes for all old people. I read a story that goes like this... nah, nevermind.

That is your view friend. However, I would like to state here that those who stop learning at an old age are the people who stop thinking that the can do anything new at that age. With the old age the memory power may decrase, the capacity to sit for long hours to learn something also may decrease but inspite of this people can find out ways and means to learn new things. You have rightly stated that there are not many people like this.
Thanks for addition to this discussion. Have a nice day...!

Definitely, there should be no age limit to learning. Learning should not be an event but rather a process that continues to refresh the minds of learners. What could hinder this necesity is education but it is a plus to one's social standing to the society.

Great thinking..."Learning should not be an event but it should be a process that continues". We all learn new things almost all the times. Even at old age people learn how to handle new situations. Now a days with the introduction of new gadgets, old people learn how to operate them.
One's social standing to the society may hinder this process of learning. But the thing is that if that person wants to learn new things, he should have courage and zeal for that. I believe that if a person decides that he wants to learn something, then nothing can stop him from doing so. May be the ways of learning may change a bit because of the circumstances.

I agree, learning is so much fun, one should never stop learning regardless the age. People normally stop learning as they get older because the more you already know, the less open you are to new stuff and the harder it would be to absorb new information. Sometimes I wish I could live forever, then I would have all the time in the world to learn. Imagine the amount of knowledge one could acquire at the age of a thousand. :) Cheers.

That is right, you can never finish your journey of learning during your life span in this world, there is so much knwoledge in our world and universe for you to learn, reaching old age doesn't guarantee you have learn them all. Not even mention new discovery in verious field of studies will continue to emerge and uncover by scientist, researcher, and academician in every passing day, week, month and year. Horay, happy learning everyone, there is no limit to knowledge, not just the age. !!

You have rightly stated that learning is a routine process. We all have to learn something or the other, knowingly or unknowingly. Now a days new things are comming up in almost all the fields. Mobile phones, computers, home appliances etc. everywhere new things are being introduced in lots. So we have to learn new things. And so we can say that there is no age limits for learning process.
However, when I hear someone saying like "you are too old to learn such things", I feel sorry for that speaker and not for that old person. Because the speaker exhibits his or her own ignorance by making such statement.
Thanks for adding to this discussion friend...! Have a nice time...!

Of course there is no limit to learning.I have my aunt who is learning the piano right from the scratch at her age of 60.She was a Doctor before and had very less time to learn music. Now that she is retired, she is learning music. Also,I saw in FUJI islands, the professor at Zoology department was 85 years old and still he was working on another PhD degree.Hope I too will be actively involved in learning process like all those great people out there.

hi deserve,
Even in our daily life we learn and it has no limit
But if you are not willing to learn and you put limitation then I think that's the ending of learning a lot in our life.
I admire people like that
happy mylotting

You have correctly stated that if a person does not want to learn anything and if he puts limitations on himself, then nobody can help him. His learning ends there only. Otherwise, one should try honestly if one wants to learn new things and even if he does not succeed then also it is no sorry thing because that person had tried honestly. He had tried to overcome his limitations.
I too admire such people and I think that young people should learn from these people.
Thanks for your response...Have a nice time...1

Yes I totally agree, There is no age restriction for learning new things. You can learn anything anytime. Like these days I am learning glass painting. And I love when people praise my art at my home's windows and mirrors.
