Instant Millionaire by mistake...

Just curious guys, what will you do or will be your action if you found out that there is an additional amount credited to your bank account by mistake amounting to millions. Will you withdraw all of them in an instant, or report them, or do nothing about it. I don't even know what to do. Maybe i would feel shocked and even happy, but also scared since i don't even now where that money came from.

The most common answer when presented that problem is that they would say they would give it back, although according to psychology and research, we tend to not give it back. Meaning, we are quite actually happy to just get it for ourselves. Fortunately for me, that incident never occured to me. It would put me in jeopardy since it may be: "A TRAP!". Anyway, i think i would be scared as well since i don't know where it came from. Good day to you. PS: I like things better when the rewards i get are because of my own perseverance, patience, skill. Cheers!

Yes, I think all of us will do the same thing upon learning that our money had increased overnight, which is to talk to our bank how did it happen. Because the most probable cause if we are not expecting that much money is, it was deposited to our account by mistake. Besides, even if we withdrew and spent it knowing that it's not ours, it will be taken back.

You are one lucky guy! But it's better to make everything sure and clean. You're values should weigh more than money. I know, even me in your position, money with that huge amount can be really glittery and tempting. On the other side, we don't know where that money came from. It could be by mistake that would trouble your conscious in the end or it could be a bad money/scam that might end you up in an unfortunate situation. It's always better to make it sure so you can spend it with a clean heart. Just ask the bank where it came from, we may not know you won from the lottery or something like that. :)

Yes, if this thing happens, we should inform the bank or ask them why is it so. Even if they have a promo and we have won they should have informed us about the winnings just in case. And if ever I don't think the winnings would be that big.

Yeah, I think most of us would feel the same way as you both. The moment we realized that there was a mistake, we should verify about it to our banks. Anyway, the transaction error would be immediately corrected once the bank knew about their mistake. I guess it can not be considered as a crime, either by the bank employee who had made the mistake through his/her negligence or the owner of the account where the money had been credited.

If that would happen to me I d rather investigate first, ask the bank for the information of where those money came from. If its in my bank account that is accidentally credited the bank can trace those whose the depositor of those money. But I think those are rare cases because banks are cautious in encoding information of the deposits.

Yes, the chances would be very slim if ever this happens. But, I guess most of us will do the same by reporting it to the bank about the error. And also majority of us would feel guilty knowing that someone had lost his/her money erroneously.

IT IS NOT MINE TO HAVE. Just simple as that, therefore I will informed the management of the bank and tell them that by mistake a large amount was added to my account. We should take into consideration that if ever we will not return there is this possibility that the one who is charge of that money will be the one to shoulder the loss. Second, just for the sake of argument I took it and later on the Bank Management will trace it to my account, will I not be put into disgrace knowing that I tried to have what is not mine. I will be subjecting my family into shame and disgrace. Believe in KARMA, my dear. The thing that you toke will be taken back from you more than a million times. It might not be soon but it will happen.

Yes, it's not good to have what is not rightfully ours. And besides, we could be in trouble if the said money was earned illegally, and transferring the money to our account by mistake would get us involved too, even though we have no knowledge of it. The best we could do is notify the bank about the error, in that way we could save the person in trouble too for his/her mistake.

I would report it to bank as I have mobile alerts available I would know instantly if this kind of things happen. Last year festive season this sort of incident did happen with a few people in my country this was due to error in the ATM servers.

So, this mistake could really happen. And if it really do happens, the bank employee who may have done this did it in true faith without knowing earlier that what he/she had done was a mistake. But this incident would be corrected immediately the moment the bank new of the transaction error.

Yes, your right and if ever this happened it wouldn't take hours before the bank realized their mistake. My thought on this is, if for some reason it did happen. Anything is possible especially in our imagination.

If they bank ever did put the wrong amount in your account or put money in your account by mistake, wouldn't they make you give it back once they realize the mistake? That's what I always thought would happen. I just can't imagine the bank would misplace thousands or even millions of dollars into your account and not realize or have the person whose account it was supposed to go in complain. If I ever saw that in my account I'm not sure what I'd do because I wouldn't want them to ask for it all back if I ended up withdrawing it and then spending it.

Absolutely the bank would take it back the minute they realized that they had mistakenly credited the money to someone's account. And the true owner of the money will soon find out one way or the other, especially if it involves large amount. As you have said, if for some reason you ended up spending some of it because of some emergencies and you forgot to inform them about the mistake, I guess the bank could not compel you to pay it back soon especially if you are short of cash and besides it's their fault.

Well if that happens then i will get sad rather than happy since I know it will be by mistake and I would like to report the matter. I have come across a situation where my bill was said to be paid by check and that i have to just pay whatever little amount is left. I first told the people in the company to check if there was some mistake because I have not paid anything as yet and I am sure it is by mistake. So, like this i would complain also. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

So, you'll get sad because with the thought that it was credited to your account by mistake, you want to clear things out the minute you knew of the error. I think most of us will do the same thing and I guess we won't feel at ease spending that money which is not ours even it happened due to someone's negligence.

Millions, you say? I wouldn't be happy. I will be very very shocked and scared and I will never ever have second thoughts to pick up the phone and call my bank manager to report about this. How should I know that this is legal money? What if this is a scam or an outcome of something illegal like money laundering and my account was just used as a pawn? I would rather have a couple of thousands that I worked hard for than an instant million out of thin air. I will never have peace of mind, and that is something that no amount of money can ever buy.

I guess most of us will react the same way you would. Upon knowing that our money increased overnight is really disturbing unless we are expecting that to happen. Our best option is talk with our bank and asked if there is a possibility that it could happen. As you have said if the money were obtained illegally by someone and the thought that it was transferred to our account could mean, we are involved in the said illegal activity. So, we should clear things out with our bank after learning of the error to have peace of mind.

Wow, you must be one lucky guy. But your values should weigh more than money. Maybe you should ask the bank where the money came from. We may not know it's from a bad money or a scam, and may end up you in an unexpected situation. It's hard to make a move if you don't know its source. It may be so tempting, even me, but consider what might happen. You know it's not your money for it might be some mistake. If you won something with that, I guess that would really be good news! Just make sure of everything before making a move. :)

Of course our reaction would be to verify the said transaction with our bank. And since we are not expecting that much money, it's sure put there by mistake. Anyway, even we don't report to them the discrepancy the bank would take it back the moment they knew about the error.

If a bank would make me a millionaire by accident, they would be able to find out and I would end up giving up every single penny, if I'd take it and run off with it. I wouldn't take it, though. Just wouldn't be right.

Yes, your right the bank would act on it immediately the moment they found out about the mistake. Besides, it's not right to spent the money you don't own especially if it's accidentally added to your account due to bank's negligence. And if ever you have spent a bit of it you are obligated to pay it back to the real owners.
