You may not believe this, but some Chinese community in my country, hire ladies to cry over their loved ones' wake. To be honest, it sound strange. I just watched a local movie, it was seriously done. I don't question the facts, but I never witness this in reality. Have you?

The Spanish people brought to our country a customs such as this one. I believe they stll have it in some parts of the country, away from the modern world. They were called "lloronas" back then. It is widely spread in Latin America.

thanks marguicha for that very informative response. I thought Chinese were the only one who uses such tradition here in our country. I also thought it was brought here by them.

Hello there Shavkat. I think I have an idea of that one because I could remember that there was a movie in our country that is entitled "Crying Ladies." It starred three famous and very talented actresses we have here in the Philippines namely Sharon Cuneta, Hilda Coronel and Angel Aquino. I think I was able to watch this movie when I was younger. I also haven't seen some crying ladies in some wakes that I was able to go to before. If I could witness one, I think I would just be observant. Happy myLotting. :)

I have heard about this in my country and that it is/was practiced in the countries around us too. I think people still hire crying ladies in some very traditional communities. These ladies cry over the wakes of someone and sing special songs. It is supposed to express the pain of those who lost him, and to help them with the pain and grief. But I haven't seen this anywhere.

I think I know what movie you're saying. I still haven't seen a thing like that in real life. Yes, it's really odd. Why do they have to pay anyway?

I haven't seen crying ladies in a wake in reality but I saw the movie. For us, the idea might sound strange but they have their reasons for doing so, as they have more beliefs that most of us are unaware of.
