I think a person could live without friends though they would be very unhappy. I wonder if there even is a person in the world who doesn't even have one friend. I suppose there has to be someone out there without even a single friend. It's just hard to imagine.

No, it is impossible. Without friend we cannot live. Each of us have friends. May be humankind or animal, but everybody has at least one friend. A friend in our life is must, with whom we can share our happiness/sorry.
