Field Trips

It seems like growing up we went to the same mix of places for field trips every year. When we were younger it was the zoo. From fourth grade up it was always the State Capitol (or is it capital? when exactly do you use the 'o'?), Martin Nature Park, the government place where they shred money (and they always gave each of us a little bag of shredded money), Enterprise Square (which is now closed), and what used to be called the Omniplex, but is now called The Science Museum. Oh yes, and the Cowboy Hall of Fame. I think now that I'm older I'd appreciate the Cowboy Hall of Fame. But as a child I thought it was boring. What were the field trips you'd go on in school? Did you have any favorites? I liked the Omniplex/Science Museum a lot. It had so many cool things, even an ode to all of the first Ladies of the United States. My least favorite was Martin Nature Park. Because we always went when it was hot and humid.

I only remember the LA Zoo, San Fernando Mission and the opera. Cinderella in 4th grade, Hansel and Gretel in 5th and The Magic Flute in 6th. OH yeah, also the art museum that was right by the La Brea tar pits.

We went to a play once, but we had to leave. We went to a Christian school, and well, let's just say on the men's costumes, you could see stuff. The teacher was trying something new, but it was a secular college hosting the play, so she probably should have known better.

In Junior High the music classes went to see Oliver! on stage. I loved it. That may be when I developed my love for musicals.

Growing up in your neck of the woods, I was born before these things existed. I do not think we ever went to the State Capital,(not sure between a and o)but we went to a historical museum which must have been at the capital.I think that trip included greenhouses as well and was on the grounds of the Will Rogers Rose Gardens. We also were allowed to have "fun" field trips and the teachers did not have to justify with "educational objectives" trips to Springlake and there was another amusement park I cannot name right now. I know neither of them are open anymore. Sometimes I did not have the money to go to some. I know the class went to a western movie, based on a Louis L'Amour novel, and I could not go. It was after a unit on the Civil War and the Carpet Baggers.

We went to the state capital every year because the grandpa of a kid in our class (whose parents also went to our church) was a state representative. So he personally showed us around. We got an official photo and all that. It was cool a couple times. But when I say every year, I mean every single year. I forgot the rose gardens.

How could I forget Braum's dairy factory? I didn't mind that because every time we went, they gave us a new treat they were about to put on the market.

Wow, this is bad..Though I am sure we probably had trips like to the Children's Museum and other educational trips, all I can remember is the walk to Dairy Queen and I would get the Peanut Buster Parfait, still my favorite treat there..

They really don't where I live either. Oh there is a building with a DQ sign and when we first moved here over 25 years ago, we enjoyed it. But that owner sold the business, it has been opened and closed so many times, I have lost count. DQ is the only place that sells the ice cream cake my son will eat, he won't eat the grocery store "Carnival" brand. There is one that is 40 miles away and that is where we buy his b-day cake now, but that is too far to go for an ice cream...:(

My kids might be going to New York City this year. That's all they've been able to talk about since school started!

I've ALWAYS wanted to go there. Back when we thought I was going to die, my dad and I made plans to go. But darn it, once people find out you're going to live they cancel all plans for fun.

I am about 8 miles away from D.C. Our field trips were to the White House and The Air and Space Museum . Sadly with all this teaching to the test I wonder if kids get any field trips.

That was a long time ago for me but we did a few...the state capitol and also we went to the cities to see a play. I remember the play to this day as I was so taken by seeing real actors. I know there were other smaller trips...but these two were the highlights.

I think different districts go to different places. Here they only seem to go to either farms, the small local museum, or nature centers (ran by the city/county). My 4th grader said they were going on the field trip to the capitol, we never did that. However, I remember going to Chicago Art Museum, Old World Wisconsin, Discovery World, PAC now the Marcus Center for Performing Arts, and the County Zoo that I could remember. I remember in college one of the places we went on a field trip to was a big dry cleaner (studied Apparel Marketing) and how they treated various fabrics for my textiles class.

Because I went to a Christian school we weren't kept from going anywhere like we would have if we had been a public school. That's a lot better college field trip than mine. Two jails and one psych hospital.

Not too many field trips for us when I was in school. One trip to London, and several to the local Theatre. I also remember that we went on a biology field trip for one week and that was the highlight of my school days. The art galleries etc we did on our own. Blessings

I had pretty many field trips in school, twice we went abroad. But I guess I will most likely remember the one when we went to one river valley and it was in March the temperatue must have been around +5 celsius or so. But the trick was that the stairs were covered with ice so we couldn't really go down, but me and few of my friends did, We went from next to the stairs and pretty much we were holding on to trees and then taking next step on going down the hill to bottom of the valley. We thought that the others would follow us, but they didn,t, They came down from safer passage. Anyhow thanks to that we got kind of lost, so we tryed to find the others at first, lucily one of us had some money left on his cellphone so we contacted with our teacher. And like after 3 hours we found the others.

The best place I go when I was in high school is My museum City. I can play in there in their park. I don't enter to museum to see all historical and science things. I just play in their beauty park. I am still laughing if I remember it. Another favorite place i my town is animal park. Very amazing place
