Procrastination

I work online from the convenience of my home, and I can in theory work when I want to. But yet now I am again sitting today well knowing I have a deadline on a project and I seem to procrastinate to avoid working. Obviously this is totally stupid and I will regret it, especially because if I didn’t procrastinate I could have been finished hours ago and do something nice with my time instead, I presume I tend to do it when I am getting bored with the project or because I sometimes work better under pressure.
What about you, do you sometimes procrastinate when you need to work?

As much I can I try not to procrastinate. Procrastination for me is just a waste of time. If I can do it today then I have to do it, I don't want to put things off for tomorrow. I don't want to think the same thing over and over again. As much as I can I wanted to finish and hit my goal in an early time. There are many things that we can do if we do it on time.

Thus theoretically according to your beliefs, there might be a change that I am not procrastinating as much as I think I do? One thing is positive; I got a few things done today, so I am satisfied.

I couldnt agree with you more, procrastination is indeed a waste of time, but yet some days I just dont seem to be able to put myself together to get the tasks done.

There are things that is beyond our control that we have to put things off, but it doesn't mean that we are procrastinating. I think there is a big difference between procrastinating things and putting things off because we are busy and we can't finish all the works.

I guess procrastination is in the blood of most people, mind you! haha. Well, for myself, I do procrastinate frequently, especially when I find the tasks I had to finish boring. However, procrastinating has never dealt me a serious blow, I still have the conscience and responsibility to finish the tasks allotted to me. I keep reminding myself when I procrastinate that it is better for me to finish the work first then to relax rather than to relax first, but sadly it seldom work. :(

I know exactly whatyou mean, right now my procrastination consists of sitting on MyLot rather than finishing up these translations, but once the translations are done I could just relax for the rest of the day - and honestly it is slowly going to be midnight before I get done if I dont get started soon :/

Ironically enough still not finished but progressed :) I think I agree with the saying - the bill is not fun, though the feeling of just beeing able to swipe the credit card is amazing...

Haha, as many people say, procrastination is like a credit card, it's fun until you get the bill ;) Well, get yourself up and finish it then! Finish it real fast and then go back again to mylot ;p Anyways, best of luck for your translation tasks then :)

Uhh I wonder if I could suplement the coffee with something else, I must admit the taste of coffee is not one I like, my boyfriend though tries to convince me that coffee works like medicine...

Procrastination! That's a dangerous word in my own life! There are a lot of things that I should be doing and getting on with and I just don't. I leave things well alone and I concentrate on doing things that I enjoy like regular cycling. I sometimes have regrets about not doing something but I realise that the regrets will get me nowhere. So, what should I do? I pick up a motivational book that helps me to get my thinking right and then I can at least make the effort to get on with what I should be doing like cleaning my flat, a horrendus task! Andrew

Ewww! I totally agree cleaning the flat/house/apparment or the like belongs on the list of things where I often procrastinate, but yet I am inbuild with a hate against dirtyness and dirt, thus I end up within a day or two just to get it done anyways.

I guess by now that you have finished your project - that is if you only stayed on Mylot long enough to open a discussion!
I procrastinate quite often, mostly with housework because it is a 'must' to do and not a choice. Sometimes a cup of coffee does the trick for me, it gives my mind time to wander while I drink it and the cafeine gets me going when it is finished. As a fellow sufferer I can't give any better advice.

Hello 41CombedaleRoad,
Actually I am still workig on the project, I found a valid reason to procrastinate it further, I had some questions I needed an answer on :P
Maybe the solution for me should be to learn to drink coffee, it seems to work for quite a few of our fellow MyLotters. - though right now I am still unsure if I can learn to live with the taste, coffee just doesnt taste for me.
Now I see I got some response on my e-mail so maybe I should get back to finishing the task.

Urgh! YES!
Procrastination is my number one problem.Like for example, instead of actually doing important things right now e.g finishing off things for deadlines,I'm searching the web and watching useless youtube videos about procrastination,e.g procrastination music video about some guy singing how he is lazy to do stuff..haha,no seriously.I even keep telling myself,''c'mon you get this done, you can go have fun later on,spend the rest of the day doing stuff you like'' but noo, another part of me keeps saying,'just a minute, maybe one hour wouldn't hurt'.

Hello MeganFoxxie,
Maybe we should work together to get each other out of this bad habit called Procrastination - we both know it doesnt do us any good at all...

Always.
Whenever I feel bored or just hated the work--which I always do aside for things that really interests me--I procrastinate. But there are times when I talk myself out of it saying "If I don't do this, I cannot do the things I want to do to learn how to make money." I talk to myself using words that matter to me to encourage me to work further and stop lazing around.

Ahh yes, sometimes you need to wake yourself up from this dreadful procrastination, and this is also just a pure sign that we all know it is a wrong thing to do, as if we dont - some things in life I believe would be alot easier.

When it has something to do with work and it is time sensitive, I do not procrastinate. But if it is something that I can always put off, like say, cleaning my closet, or changing the curtains, I would love to procrastinate lol! Or maybe I would become so engrossed with something I am reading or mylotting or watching something that I keep on saying I'll do it later and then when it is later, it's still not done. I hate this side of me, and I'm trying to get my sked on track.

I am similar in that I often put things off until later and then live to regret it!
I have found that breaking the day up helps with short term goals/rewards. For example I may write for 30mins - 1 hours then reward myself with a coffee or go for a run, or walk the dog. I often find that a walk/run helps me to unravel writer's block and also alleviates procrastination. I think that putting too much pressure on myself affects the quality of my work and, although the walk/run/coffee break is taking out time that may otherwise be spent on a project, I feel that after such a break I am more refreshed and able to produce a better end product as ideas come to me more readily. This may be from the needed rest/break or the surge of blood to my head from fresh air (or even caffeine!). Either way it gives me a fresher perspective rather than sitting stewing in an unproductive morass!
I hope that this is some help.
Have a great day.

Maybe that could be a solution, to reward myself for certain amount of time worked or when I have finished a certain amount of the work. Yet I tend to find things which are far more fun to do rather than doing what I am suppoesed to.
