How we used to spend our weekends when we were children

When I was a 'junior' by that I mean pre-teens, my weekends were spent very differently from the way my children spent theirs. Saturday morning was the best start to the weekend. All my friends and I went to the cinema, we called it Saturday Morning Pictures. It was cheap and entertaining. It started with an organ playing music and the words coming up on the screen, we had a great singalong. How many people remember 'Daisy Daisy', or 'They've got a lot of coffee in Brazil' or If you were the only girl in the world' - songs that had no merit for children but there were no pop songs in those days so we did not know what we were missing! After that we watched a cowboy film, or Tarzan. I fell in love with Trigger, Roy Rogers' horse. We walked home after that, we did a lot of walking then, and treated ourselves to a cream bun from the bakers we passed on the way.
In the afternoon we went to the library and came back with several books to keep us occupied for the rest of the week. I enjoyed Enid Blyton at that time. Sometimes we went to the swimming pool, we had two choices here. Each weekend we went for a bath, in the so called 'slipper baths' (a bathroom was not available in most of our homes then) and had a bath topped up with hot water, all to ourselves, not having to share the water in the tin bath anymore. If we could swim we went to the pool instead of the slipper baths!!
On Sunday mornings we earned our pocket money. I cleaned my aunt's silver and earned sixpence. On Sunday afternoons we were sent to Sunday School for an hour. Something I occasionally resisted, without success, but I am grateful for that early instruction now.
The rest of the weekend we played in the streets, no cars to worry about, read our books or played with our toys. It was a simple childhood but one I remember with great pleasure.

When I was a youngster my step brother and I would go to the movies on Saturdays. They were Grade B movies and we would bring a ticket cut of the cartons of milks mom got. I remember "Daisy,Daisy" as sheet music my mom had. We used to see Tarzan and Roy ROgers on tv at home in the afternoons after school. I remember doing alot of walking then too. Up and including my teen years. We used to think nothing of walking clear across town to see a friend. Now my granddaughter would no more walk than anything. I usually spent weekends with girlfriends when I was a teen. Or I was at home sleeping. I was depressed even then but not diagnosed until later in life. Sleep was like an escape for me. When I was real young I would spend my Summers at my grandmother's and the neighbor girl and I would roam all over the neighborhood. It was heaven on Earth back then.

During my childhood, Only Sunday was a Holiday. We used to get little homework for the weekend. I used to finish my homework during the Saturday Evening and since sunday morning, start playing with all the friends in the neighbourhood. Till we get a call from my mom to have lunch. A little sleep after lunch and the games time resume again at 4, which will continue till 8p.m. Those days are memorable.

The same as you, i can only have a holiday in sundays during a week in my childhood. In saturday night, i didn't go to bed until my favourite TV programs ended up about 10 pm, i remembered in that time TV was just a rare electronic product, it was very expensive which so few family could afford it, there was only one TV in my village, after supper, people from village would close around TV to watch just like watching movie in cinema, it was memoriable. In sunday, with my neighbour and my classmates, we played game and played ball and swimed in pond.

Saturday mornings we could sleep in. Then if we liked we could lounge around in our pajamas and watch cartoons. No Saturday morning movies or cinemas that I know about. Saturday night bath at home, and us girls got our hair done up. I can remember how grown up I felt when my parents started letting me stay up and watch the "Late Late Show" (it ended at midnight) Sunday morning dressed in our best we went to Sunday School and church. Pot roast for lunch. And cake, with peaches. When I was a teen my neighbor and I would go for a long walk, usually to the shopping centers nearby. It was nothing to walk five or six miles for fun.

We were usually stuck at each others house, that was how I spent my pre-teen and much of my teen years.

Hi friend! I used to spend my weekends at my grandparents' farm. My grandparents would prepare lunch using the veggies harvested from the farm. We would also pick fruits and enjoy the water from the stream. I really enjoy those days. Life was som simple then.

I made the fullest during my child days :) During weekends, I watched looney tunes and the like in the morning. Around 10am I played with my friends by "mataya-taya",small cards, pogs, chinese garter/ten-twenty, "Luksong baka", "sipa", play station like dance dance revolution and there were more! When we were tired we took rest and lunch. Dance with the musics of Aqua. :) Hahahaha!!! A little talk about their enemies in the other street. I was just listening to them. :P Then our parents soonly called us to go home as it was dark. Hahaha no taking bath :P There were times that we slept on one's friend house and watch movie with their parents and/or older cousins. :) When it rained, ofcourse we took a bath in the rain. ;) That was so fun! And I am missing all of them. :)
