Only it is full when there is some festival or when the school get over. So generally i am a small town girl.. have you heard of any ghost towns before? Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Hi riya! Hopefully, you are talking about islands in Goa. I have been to Goa more than once. I have observed that at nights it is a sleepy town and there is not much hustle and bustle. I also observed that during day time after 2.00 p.m. many shops down their shutters and they re-open in the evening only. I think in a way it is good that you have been staying at a peaceful location away from madness of metro cities.

My wrong answer at least brought out the fact that your hometown is Fiji, else I would not have known this fact . Thanks for enlightening me that Vanua Levu is the second largest Island in Fiji. I can understand that you still remember your childhood memories (and this you will remember for years to come). How come you landed in Goa? dpk PS - was expecting a reply to my PM, which did not come?

Hi, sorry I am talking about my hometown which is in Fiji Islands. I am from the second largest Island called Vanua Levu. Goa is silent in the Island of Divar where i live but there is no town here. The town is city Panjim and it is about 4 kn from panjim. So everyone works in Panjim from the Island. While my hometown is in Fiji, we have a town which is one street but it is a long street. It is a wonderful town and I have lot of childhood memories from there. The town is called Labasa town. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I live in the U.S. and there are a lot of "ghost towns" here. I remember as a child going to a village that had been active back in the 1700's but was abandoned in the 1800's, don't know why. I don't know if you can consider the Anasazi ruins ghost towns... but I've been to a lot of them.

I don't know about the one I saw as a child, but many towns in the U.S. west were mining towns and abandoned when the mines were mined of all the ore.

Hi riyauro, Actually, yes I have. I have visited one here in the USA about 30 years ago. It is called Virginia City and is located on a mountain in Nevada. I gave you a link..http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/nv/virginiacity.html It was very interesting and I loved walking through the town, and I did visit the graves too. Many of the buildings were closed though when I went so I didn't get to see inside them. Fun place to visit.

Wow, really? So that means you must have known everyone there living with you for quite a while if it's got a small population. I am not sure on my stand here. I am not really a big city girl; I actually prefer to live in the suburbs, but I can't take the full time hustle and bustle, noise and crowds of the city. But I also don't wanna live in a far-flung town where it would be much of a hassle if ever I need to run some errands or do some stuff in the city. With regards to safety, I think it is safer in a small town where you know everybody. In a big city, crimes happen left and right. Sometimes you don't even know that your next door neighbor is already a hard core criminal. But when it comes to healthcare and serious education of course the city have lots to offer. And lastly, as for it being a ghost town, that's where I draw the line lol! I'm such a scaredy cat and I can't imagine living in a place where I have to be alone or it would be quite a walk before I reach a neighboring house. Which leads me to my question, how far or how near is your closest neighbor? Don't you get scared there?

we do have 130000 people on the island but it is big area and people are scattered and the people who stay 4 hours from the town come to shop like once a month. I live 10minutes from the town so I have close neighbors. It is very quiet place and in the nights is it like pin drop silence. The town is empty mostly when school is on. So during holidays there are kids more in the streets. I liked it very much at home. I have seen city life and also rural. There is peace in rural living.

When we had a strong earthquake in our home town, a lot of people perished, numerous landslides, the main roads are closed from other low land areas. The media named our place, a ghost town.

I never heard of such thing before but it must be a great experience living there. I think there much places in the world with a very meager number of people living per square kilometers. The concept of ghost town sounds to be great. I don't know who coined it but if not yet been coined you should have it copyrighted on your name. If I consider or give example of my village there a not lot many people living there. Maybe in total it should be less than one hundred and fifty peoplea. This is because my hometown is uphill and I am a highlander.

In the US there are many Ghost Towns. Many of them are in the western states because people built a town and then the railroad came through and missed their town. There are a few building still standing and maybe a few people still live there but most of the buildings are abandoned and are falling down. They are interesting places to visit and to learn their history.

It is funny that you come from a ghost town. Your discussion title was a bit creepy, ha ha. It a shame the streets are empty on the weekdays and are only busy at the weekend or on a festival day. I visited Kalgoolie in Western Australia. The train took 8 hours to get there and when I arrived I saw it was a town in the desert. The streets were wide because of camel trains. Parts of it looked like a ghost town. In the day the sun was shining and it seemed hot. In the night time it went down to freezing. I found it a strange place. Five hours south by bus I met up with my cousin. She at that time lived in Esperance. I live in a quiet close in a coastal town in Somerset, England. It can be busy on the sea front in the summer and empty on the cold wintery like days.

That is so cool, my friend! There is only very few people live in this island, what is the name of that island, is it part of USA? I had never heard of this ghost town island before, i can tell it is a quiet and nice little township no matter what other people like to call it, it is a cool place to live.

I was burn and grew up in a province which is less populated and life is passive compared to the city. When i graduated I wanted to work in the city and luckily this wish was granted. However now that i am no longer working i miss the way of life in the place where i grew up. I miss the simple ways of the people and i long for the quiet and peaceful surroundings there. however, this could not be possible for i cannot leave my children. i'm planning though to find an opportunity to live at least a month or two again in my birthplace.
