Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno- A Very Smart Choice

The President has finally chosen from the shortlist submitted by the JBC. Actually She was my favorite candidate for the position vacated by the ousted Renato C. Corona. Being one of the youngest at 52, She will have 18 years to serve as Chief Magistrate in the highest Court of the land. As the SC's 24th Chief Justice, Sereno also made history being the first woman ever to be appointed to such level of a position in the Philippine Judiciary. Besides, She was only ranked as "second most likely to be appointed" to Associate Justice Antonio Carpio on the mock selection process done by the JBC, having gathered only a total of six nominations as compared to Carpio's seven. But, in the end, She still won the President's nod- A smart move on the part of the President, pounding down the "Seniority" tradition. But, is she or would she be an "independent" kind of a Chief Justice? I believe so, but fingers crossed. Having seen the Public Interview a month ago or so, in my humble pinion, by the way she responded and with the way she approached every single bit of question was among the most impressive and most remarkable among all the other candidates. I could barely see in her eyes that she really meant what she was saying Probity, Integrity and Independence unarguably are among the most essential qualities that a CJ should have. I think we needed a Chief Justice whose moral principles and attitude as well as the credibility was never a question. A Chief Justice who has a sheer conscience. A Chief Justice who cannot be influenced by anybody from the Administration, who'll never allow evil to hover around the Judiciary. A Chief Justice who will prove that we have indeed a "Rule of Law" - redefining its essence so that fair justice could be rendered. A Chief Justice that will regain the people's trust. A Chief Justice who is extremely considerate and impartial on all of her desicions. And most importantly, a Chief Justice who is God-fearing. I think she's the kind of Chief Justice that we've always needed. What more can I say? I'm glad to have Ma.Lourdes Sereno as our Chief Justice.

I think she's a smart choice. I believe that it is according to her capability and integrity that she was chosen. Let's give her a chance and see if she can deliver well. After all, the people are the judge.

I have heard in the news of her appointment, it was a surprise indeed. I have nothing much to say about her appointment though as I admit i have no information or knowledge of her, really. I guess with the appointment, my trust is with the President, i believe he sure does know what he is doing on this regard and that he sure must have done everything to give this country the best choice to be our chief justice.I am just praying that she does not turn out to be the very person who got booted out for her to replace.

I guess Pnoy made a controversial decision as he wanted it to be. I am not yet saying anything as of yet since the CJ has just started as CJ and we could not yet really see if Pnoy's decision is the right choice indeed. She has made promises of reforms in the Judiciary so I leave it up to that and wait for it to be delivered.

Too early to commend her performance but many said Administration choose because she is the "Chicks" of the Malacanang. NO proven evidence being held by any individuals but media have a doubt about the selection.

Is she a smart choice? No one can't say that for sure. Only her performance and the fulfillment of all her promises will do credence for that premises. I have no opinion of her because I really don't know the woman behind that robe. I am just crossing my fingers, just like most Filipinos, that she will be able to do her job efficiently and honestly. Cheers!
