Confessions of a myLot Snob...

Yes, I said it. I'm a snob about myLot. I know I probably shouldn't FEEL this way, I mean, darn, I just started myLotting a few months ago, some people have been here for YEARS and yet...I'm already a snob. Let me explain...
See, when I read discussions started from other people about the money that they want to make here, or when people ask questions about how MUCH and WHEN?? (when???, when??, how much? how much???), I feel very snobbish and nose-up-in-the-air about the whole thing because I DON'T come here just for the money!!
The money is an incentive, don't get me wrong, but I honestly don't even THINK about the money when I'm posting, I don't even WORRY about how many posts I have to do to make a dollar and all of that nonsense (see, I told you I was a snob), I just come here to type. That's all, I come here to type, because I LOVE typing.
I feel bad about feeling like a myLot snob. I don't MEAN to tsk, tsk, tsk, and roll my eyes upward when I read about the people here who are myLotting for financial purposes only, but I can't seem to HELP it!!
There, I've confessed to all who want to listen...my name is Homebase, and I'm a myLot snob.

I don't think MyLot would kick you off this site if you are a snob and pursues of being a snob. Whether you post or not, comment or not, your existence is this site depends on how you want it to be. I can see MyLot has 'interest' options, your choice to discuss on topics that interests you and your choice also to ignore topics that you're not fond of discussing :D
I may be here for money, but for now I believe I'm here for interaction. I'm a in search of decent, smart & professional community and I can clearly see MyLot is one.
MyLot is like you FarmLot.. lol your option what vegetable you wanna plant or not. But still you own the entire lot.
So happy MyLotting still for you..:)

Hi HOmebase well there are more of us snobs as I am here for all the good things about mylot plus my earnings. I do not count posts as thats nonsense, I just respond to my friends, have fun and enjoy
myself then look and my earnings are pretty good but my friendships' all over the world are priceless and the feeling I get of being in the huge mylot family is more precious to me than my earnings.and no we do not get paid a penny for anything THERE ARE NO RATES GIVEN ANY ANYWHERE IN THE INFO.

I just like to type, that is why I am here, plus I learn new things which is always a plus. I cannot imagine living a day without learning at least ONE thing as I am an avid learner.
53 thousand posts??!...I think you could be my hero, or at least one of them anyway.

Wow I love your new avatar Hatley! It caught my eye so I had to respond to this one...
I don't count posts, myLot does that mostly for me and the one's it doesn't count... I still know I'm getting credited for it so its all good. I don't worry about that any way - I'm having fun.
As HomeBase says 53 thousand posts is a ridiculous amount to try to ' count ' or keep track of!

I see you are new to the forum. I have been here for six years now and am quite slow in my activity and have no significant referrals whatsoever.I learnt typing starting with yahoo answers where I got this link from. Ever since that I have been here and have made some wonderful friends here. Money has been quite a slow accumulation but the little money for something which I love to do [chatting]is an additional incentive.
I have always been lucky in this aspect. I started learning classical music from scratch at the age of twenty six but while I was learning I got students [who heard me practise and approached me ] to train. Now this gave me a chance to practise with payment however nominal it was. So, our typing improves with some nominal payment too. That is great .

So, you got this link from yahoo answers? I don't even remember how I found this site, but I'm glad I found it.
Yes, it is a really nice thing to be able to come here and type and get paid for it too. It is also a great thing to be able to practice your music and get paid for that as well. Life is good.

If someone is here to mainly make money and not to exchange ideas and opinions with other people from all over the world, then they are really wasting their time as far as I can tell. One can make more for the time put in by doing almost anything else. I wish I could make money here but I have never made a dollar in a single day no matter how much time I spent here which admittedly is probably a lot less than some people. At most I spend 40 minutes on some days and much of that is reading posts that I end up deciding I just don't have anything worth contributing to.

Ahh, my friend stealthy. I think that you are so right about a person is (more than likely...my words) wasting their time if they come here just to make money, but I feel they are wasting their time not because it doesn't pay a dollar in a single day (as you have said), but for another reason.
See, since I, that is me, myself and I, come here because I like to type, I cannot imagine coming here just for the money, to me it is so enjoyable here that doing it for the money is not fathomable to me...it is outside of my circle of understanding. I mean, it's not like I'm the dullest knife in the drawer or anything like that, I just think that sometimes one cannot relate to a certain thing if they themselves don't feel that way.
Don't get me wrong, I can certainly understand doing certain things just for money...
(after all, my young son and I were homeless for almost 3 years (!!) because I didn't have any money...how many people here on myLot can say that???!!)
... I can understand doing certain things just for the money, I just don't understand myLotting just for the money.

homebase:
Homebase--is this your real name or name for mylot--for example ravisivan is not my real name but name for mylot.
In fact yesterday there was a discussion whether I will post if mylot is not paying-- for this while four people had told that they will --I gave the real situation --i post because i get a few dollars-- also for recognition my work is important.
it differs from person to person.
I was not comfortable with the word "snob". I checked the dictionary. it says
1.
a person who imitates, cultivates, or slavishly admires social superiors and is condescending or overbearing to others.
2.
a person who believes himself or herself an expert or connoisseur in a given field and is condescending toward or disdainful of those who hold other opinions or have different tastes regarding this field: a musical snob.
YES -- thee are two contradictory views -- one that makes one is thinking bad of himself and another one is thinking too good of himself,.
please do not feel bad. We all spend a few minutes for happiness. the success of online web sites is mainly due to the fact that people cannot react immediately as in a personal conversation.
I know you are thinking about discussions started without indicating your name? I may be wrong good day.

What I'm talking about as far as being a snob about myLot can be partially found in your dictionary definition #1, the part about being condescending. I feel that when people get on here and talk about the money part of myLot, I find it slightly distasteful simply because I don't think like that.
Thinking about money is all well and good, money is NOT a bad thing, money is a very GOOD thing, but when someone seems to be doing something ONLY for the money, that is kind of a turn-off to me. Sorry, that is just the way I feel about it.
As far as your comment about discussions started without indicating my name, I really don't understand what you mean

See my response -- can be compared to a phrase -- a crow sat on top of a palm tree and a fruit fell down--the fruit fell of its own --but was attributed to crow sitting on top of the palm tree.
Money is required. Yesterday i saw a tv program. A muslim man of 40 years married twenty years back to a christian converted as muslim (the girl was only 13). They could not get a son. This man got married to another muslim girl poor girl without telling the first wife. Through second wife he got three sons --now 10,7, and 5 year old now. this man was affected by polio when he was young --he lost heavily in business and is not able to walk-- first wife and second wife are beating him and pushing him down-- it is because there is no earnings and now each is blaming the other. For them money is very much required. But for a person whose needs are already satisfied money is an extra motivation. hope you understand.

If this is the definition of a slob may I join your club please?
I dislike seeing all these posts about earnings too and I am here because I love it here. This is my favorite site, by far, to come to on the internet. I have spent already many hours and I don't plan to leave.
I don't keep score and I don't try to make a post because I think I'll be paid for whatever I might say... I just enjoy doing it.

Lol @ SLOB !! Did my mother send you??
That was totally my mom sending me a message thru the ether waves via an unsuspecting myLotter!!! lol (I need to clean my house!!)
Sure you can join the club!! The more the merrier, right?? Although I must warn you that I have a tendency to always be *broke*, that is to say, in seemingly constant need of finances. I suppose it is due to all of my nose-'uppidness'-in-the-air about people who seem to be SO into only money...for it is not just here on myLot that I feel this way, I get my pant-ees all in a bunch about people period who seem to always talk about money.
Still, I especially cringe when I read the comments from those that have been myLotting for 5 minutes and go into the "when do I get my money?" type of thing, but to be fair I totally understand it. We need money to live, there is no doubt about that.
Like you, I don't keep score, I don't post because I think that I will be paid whatever (although I must admit that I do post at times hoping to get attention...more on that later).
Thank you echoforever (LOVE the avatar, by the way), I appreciate the banner for the myLot snob. I guess that we should feel good that we are blessed enough to just come here because we enjoy it instead of just coming here for money. We have found something that brings us joy, others should be so lucky : )

If it was your mother I had no idea about it I assure you! That is ridiculously funny. Thanks for the laugh!
I am not so much a snob about it in real life so much as feeling somewhat bad for those people who are constantly looking for money. I know we need it but I believe that I have enough to get by usually - I never have not gotten by so I will stick with that til I don't. I hope that day never comes however!
I do write my discussions hoping to get attention too because I love responding to them! I get lost in that!
Thanks I like your pretty dove avatar it looks very peaceful.

If you are coming here for the pleasure of being here, that is great. Pretty much that is me as well. I do not get all in a twist if I think I am not making payout this month, I do not rely on MyLot to pay any bill. I do like to make payout and then more, because that is one way of "keeping score" on the site, but it is my favorite site anyway, so I am lazy about the keeping score part of it. I know how I could make a whole lot more money here, but then it would not be so fun. Congrats on being a MyLot snob.

Yes, I do come here for the pleasure, because I like to type. Of course I would love to make more money at anything I do, as I have myself and a teenager to support, but I have discovered that I really just like coming here to type.
Of course if you would like to school me on how to make more money here, feel free

Haha well I dont think you are a snob just because of that. What annoys me are how many poll type questions people create. I have been a member for 6 years but am the most active now then I ever have been. I am here for the money but while I am earning money I have a lot of fun. This is my favorite site.

There was a girl on here who like never posted and then every few months would ask me how much I make on here. I would tell her how it ranges by how active I am and would tell her how much I had made in the last month etc. After about the third time of this I just didnt reply because I'm not sure what she is going for. Is she thinking that if she waits the price per post will go up or something. Ugh whatever I do my thing and enjoy myself.
Thats awesome that my post inspired you. I have that happen to me a lot on mylot as well. I love this site :)

Thank you for saying that I'm not a snob. I know that people need the money, I guess the people that I'm really talking about are the ones that have posted 3 times and then ask about the pay, it's like, put some work in first baby, damn! (Can I say 'damn' on myLot?)
It is a lot of fun here, I get a lot out of this site. Recently I was inspired by you, yes, you and your cheese sandwich, and that picture that you posted. (That was the cleanest pan I've ever seen to just have had a cheese sandwich cooked in it!!)
I'm a very visual person, and love looking at pictures of all manner of things. I was inspired by your story of how you cooked your sig-other a meal and then called him and told him about it, even sent him a picture. I loved that!! I admire people who put work into their relationships, even when it comes to the seemingly simple things, like cooking, phoning and sending pictures of a sandwich. You seem like the type that pays attention to the details, girlfriend! I admire stuff like that.

There´s all kinds of people in this world, homebase, and there are lots of interests here in mylot. If you open the interest "make money" or "make extra money" or whatever, you will find those posts. You might also find them as discussions by newbies. Not all of them read the rules about participation and quality posts. I am not always thinking about money, but it is an incentive. I use all my online earnings (here and in other sites) for vacations. So, after all, be it to eat or to have luxuries, money is an item.
Still, I, like you, mainly write because I like to do it. In my own language I am a writer. I am not a very good typer, but I love to write.
Confession accepted. I don´t believe in absolutions, so don´t expect one from me

marguicha, marguicha, marguicha...ahhh, I like how that sounds!! Makes me want to start dancing...but we are not here for that, now are we??!
Yes, I know that a lot of newbies get on here and start that type of discussion, and that is why I said in my discussion starter that I really don't like to feel like a snob about this. I realize that people need to make money, heck, I, myself, am in need of some money right now!! But I must admit that I have always been the type to find certain attitudes about money very distasteful in many ways.
Yes, we need it, and I understand that, but I guess I'm being a snob about it because for so long I have read where 'they' have said that if you find something that you like to do, you will do it and not even worry about the money. I have found that in myLot, so I guess I'm reveling in it and being a snob about the whole thing.

Hi friend, mylot is a best place to make good friends and have fun and interaction with them, earning is just an bonus in this site, if someone is doing mylot for money, they will get guaranteed payment, but the earnings are low, it is not easy to make a great income from this site, but we can easily make a lot of great friends in this site. I am also interested in typing and get more enjoyment while posting here

You are right, coming here to myLot is a lot of fun. I enjoy it. It is okay to be here for money, but I don't think that a person can really get a lot out of being here if all they come here for is to get paid.
I mean, we all need money, everybody knows that. But I think that if one likes what they are doing, then they will do that thing with joy, and possibly do more of it.

You are a priviledged person if you look at your earnings and are not excited to see thet that have gone up a little in the last 24 hours. You are a priviledged person if you don't have money on your mind all the time. We live in a world where most people do and most people don't have enough to live properly.
It may be that some Lotters fall into this category, certainly many of them seem to spend hours working at it. If they had a job that paid enough and one they enjoyed they would not have the time to spend so many hours at their computers. Personally I think MyLot is like taking a snack, it is a pleasure and a comfort but it is not life sustaining like a main meal. I think we should be sympathetic towards those who count the cents. We do not know their circumstances.

Privileged?? Well, let's see...I'm a single mother with a young son, who was recently homeless with my young son for almost three years, because I had no money to get us a place to stay...and I don't mean the sleeping-on-your-relatives-couch, or staying-at-a-friend's-house kind of homeless.
So, yes, I think that we should be sympathetic, because we do not know their circumstances.

People come here for different reasons. I, myself, come here to kill time sometimes to earn extra money. This is a nice place to meet new people from across the globe and build friendship,to develop one's writing skills using English language,to express pent up emotions and the best part is to get compensated from sharing :) This is a large community where everyone is free to post what they feel like.

Yes, you are right, people do come here for different reasons. It is a nice place to meet new people, one can especially meet new people if they spend a lot of time here writing and starting discussions. I'm sure it is also a good place to come and develop writing skills using the English language, although your writing seems to indicate that you have a good grasp on the English language already.
All types of people come here for different things, it is a fun place to be.

I am here for the money and I know that there are some who just love to chat or type or talk about anything or open themselves up. I think I am a more snob than you.
I think I'm a snob simply because I look at discussions about pouring themselves out and I initially feel "heck, this person must really be so insecure or lack self-esteem or looks for attention". I usually don't answer those questions or discussions where I feel the author is just someone who doesn't have real friends to talk to.
Then sometimes, I do answer their discussion, I do my best to avoid pushing red buttons but I end up realizing that the person isn't worth the time so I move on.
I think one becomes a snob when they don't care at all nor sympathize about another person's circumstance. There are times when a person becomes a snob and some times too when that person becomes sensitive.
So therefore, I think you being here because you love to type doesn't mean you're a snob. You just can't relate to those people because each one of us have different reasons for being here in the first place.
Have a great mylot experience ahead!

There are so many things that I can say in response to what you just wrote here, suffice it to say, I feel you on a few things...you and I are here with that. I will admit though, that sometimes I kind of think, well, hell, if I just tell some more of my business, then I'll have a whole lot more to talk about here on myLot.
I do sometimes feel like a snob when it comes to the money thing, but as I told another myLotter, I need to get my nose out of the air about money, because I'm constantly broke, and being dismissive of money is probably the main reason of my "broke-ness". Thanks though for telling me that I'm not a snob, that kind of makes me feel better about myself.

I wouldn't consider that being snobbish, I think being snobbish would be if you came here and was on mylot 24/7 and was making a lot of money. Since you're like me, you don't care about the money, sure it would be GREAT to make a lot of money. I came to this site, thinking I could make money and then I started and am hearing other people's stories and lifestyles and the money thing isn't as big of a deal now as it was before. Well, I think the real issue is, are we better off now than we were 4 years ago...and the answer is NO!!! Oh, sorry, sorry, wroooonggg discussion
Thanks girlfriend, I appreciate you saying that you don't condsider me a snob, although I guess on a serious note I really should get my nose out of the air about money. I am always in need of money, and I think one of the reasons why is because I have let other people's worship of money cloud my reality on the fact that I really need money and therefore I have to respect it more, does that make sense girlfriend??
Like you, I don't care about the money here, and yes it would be great to make a lot of money, because goodness knows, I sure need it for so many things, but I think that it is good that we can come here and not even think about the money, just have fun.
I must confess however, that it is not like that in other areas of my life, in other areas I seem to be constantly concerned about money. I would love to take that carefree attitude about money that I have here at myLot and transfer that into other areas of my life.
I guess that is why I feel like such a snob here when I don't worry about money, because everywhere else it is not like that

ME not need to worry about my financial situation?? HA!! Now that is FUN-NEE!!
I am always in need of money, as a matter of fact, I really need some money now!! I have all kinds of bills that need to be paid, so I definitely need money!
No, what I am talking about really are the posts that I read where the person only has about 2 or 3 posts, and yet they are already asking about money, it is like, "hey, you just got here. You have to put some work in first!" That is like on any job. You are not supposed to go to a job and be there 2 days and then start asking about the money!
